Hi Wayne, for me it's the smiles and applause from others and for the love of playing music. I love simple old Country stories set to music, the folks who wrote those songs lived them or knew someone who did. Although I am a beginer, only a couple years or so, i am playing for the community i live in this Saturday evening, a two hour event, hoping for 30 to 40 people to attend. Looking forward to having a good time and hoping I don't bomb.

btw, still working on fingerpicking Hello In There.  Thanks bob.

Guy's I will just say he plays that Martin up and down the neck and the sounds are beautiful. I too think he is underated as a player but, in his show he tells that all he ever wanted to do since High School is play the guitar, he been doing that for 36 years.  He also said being Married to Amy Grant who he said is a wonderful sweet woman is a dream, " i get to play Golf every day and keep all my Guitars, never sold one"    Speaks for itself.   bob

We live about 2.0 hours from Nashville and go the Ryman Auditorium at times, saw Vince Gill in a Blue Grass concert last week. What a show, we all know his talent with music but he is also very funny, could be a stand up comedian as well as a musician, told story of his buying the Martin he was playing when he was 17 yeas old, relates to his song " this old guitar and me"would recomend seeing him if you get the chance.  bob

Thank Y'all for your support. I am looking forward to this. I've worked up a set list of music i am very familiar with and I practice daily. I get a little nervous before people, but it goes away quickly (I have been in plays and have spoken to groups) Close friends are the only people in the community aware of my playing and singing, I hope others are plesently surprised.

My special thanks to all for the information and guidance I have received by reading the Chordie topics a lot. I am trying to learn Guitar by myself and chordie has been of great help. I dont feel qualified to offer much information by posting so again, thank you.
Now please consider this question.  I live in a small community that has a building I have access to for social functions. I would like to present a two hour free concert of Acoustic Guitar and Old Country with a little soft rock and Folk music. My reason is I need the experience of performing out in public and, to offer something to the Community. I am planning 10 or 11 songs with a 15 minute break followed by another 10 or 11 songs
My Guitar and voice will be miced through an acoustic amp.  Comments, thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.  bob

In"waymores blues"  Waylon Jennings wrote "I got my name painted on my shirt. I ain't ordinary dude, I don't have to work.

He was indeed no ordinary dude.    b

I hope I'm asking this in the right place. I have been singing and playing using a alternating bass country strum for a while but i just started to use more complicated strum patterns, for me anyway, such as ( d du udu ) and ( d  d uud) and I get lost in the strumming or the singing. I can do either by it's self but togeather after a few bars I mess up. I know i will get it but, does anybody have some suggestions to help me out?

Very sorry for your loss Zurf, I'm sure he is with God and, God is with You at this time.   b

Very Beautiful Pics Zurf. Every state is beautiful in is own way but, the South in my opinion, has a better way.  (smile)   b

I was Born and Bred in the state of Kentucky to good but poor stock, we went to central Illinois to find a better life when i was very young. Listened to all music but loved Country music i heard on WSM nashville radio. I Married, had two children, a Daughter in ILL and a son in Heaven, came back to Ky after retiring and the death of my wife. Married again and she encouraged me to learn to play guitar after finding i could sing a little. My Wife bought a guitar for me to get me started and, I bought a second. Teaching myself, I  have played almost every day now for Two years. I really Love it, Will go to Florida for the winter soon and will play with friends we have met there. By the way, all you guys as well as Chordie are great I don't contribute much but I read a lot and have learned a lot  here.  Thanks for listening, and thanks.  b

Folks, I'm far from being an expert but a friend of mine who is a long time Guitar Bluegrass player told me this about the G string. Always cut your string long enough to take a couple extra wraps around the tuning post on the G, this will allow the last wrap of the string below the string hole of the tuning post. He explained that if the string crosses the hole it will break quickly.  I use Elixir NanoWebs as does he, I've never broken a g string. Don't cost nothing to try.

Hey all, six years ago I was very Ill and in a hospital for some time. When i was able to return home and thought of smoking again I said no, I won't smoke today. I told myself that for several weeks until I no longer thought about it. Have never smoked since.
Worked for me. Good luck and God bless.  b

Hey Wlbaye, Great guitar work, and very smooth and nice lyrics. enjoyed it a lot.  b

Bobwill - Yes.  I have and expect that I will continue to have this problem.  There is no shame in using 'a chart' when you play.  If there were, every orchestra musician out there would have cause to be ashamed.

Thanks Zurf, I had not thought of it that way. Lots of good People,  information and thoughts from these Forums, I'm Glad I'm a member. I have a few songs i can play and sing without 'a chart' or book.

Hi all, very new to this music game and I too have a couple of note books of songs i play. My problem is playing without the music before me on a stand. I do not like admitting this but, I can't always here the next chord change coming, if i hit a wrong chord i know immediately but i just don't know at all times when to change chords. Does anyone else have or had this problem? Thanks in advance.  b

I barre the F and F# also the BM, I have no problem with B7,     however i guess i will never be a mutant because the open F and any B chord is impossible for me. A Bad deal because i like a lot of Waylon Jennings stuff and he used the B a lot.

Well Zurf, did you order that amp?  I'm really like mine.  Also the sm-58 is a great mic but, as Wayne wrote I'm having a time getting used to having it right in my face. I don't  have many of the songs i do memorized so,  I have to have the lyrics on a stand in front of me. I guess many new players start that way.  b
