Great time even though I could only be with you guys; and girl for a short time. We learned a little about the process and shared some good memories. Thanks to all for letting me be a part of it. I will remember this for a long time. Kind of a bucket list thing to play music on the internet with others from around the country and the world. I had a good time and would look forward to doing this again now that I know I can go for awhile without using up my 5 gig of data on my WiFi. I used almost 4% of my monthly 5 gig plan being online like that for about an hour. Time well spent! Thanks to all!

My first effort; no editing, just played and sang and downloaded to Utube. Just trying to figure this all out. Zurf got me started with his talking about doing some type of Chordie internet campfire get-together and I was intrigued. Just me being me and messing around a little bit. Let me know what you think. I believe some work witht the audio is still necessary; as well as work on my singing and playing, but what the heck; life is short and we are having fun. Thanks Big Jim

Hey, I just signed online and saw that Bensonp (Pete) was online so I rang him and it actually worked. Still trying to work out an understanding of this, but I was able to share a conversation with him. Pretty neat!

Re: Nashville (Tennessee) or Bust! (26 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Made the trip last August and was most moved by a tour of Studio B, where many, many artists recorded their hit music. From Elvis, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline to Garth Brooks the tour was soooo informative and even a little spiritual for me to actually sit at the piano where Elvis played and sang and to stand in front of the same microphone some of the others recorded their hits. The Country Music Hall of Fame was interesting and much more elaborate than what I remember the previous place to be from forty years ago. I wasn't as impressed with the local bar scene as I thought I would be. Much of the entertainment in the bars were playing for tips and I didn't feel they were significantly better than what you could hear around one of the better night spots around home. We did an evening dinner cruise on the General Jackson; and while a bit pricey, the food was good and the entertainment was very good; like what you might expect on a cruise ship theatre.
Probably most importantly would be that you get to spend the time with your daughter and share in her nerves, excitement and joy over auditioning for college assistance. That trumps all the tours and sightseeing you could do! Good Luck to her!

Wow, just read this thread and would love to be a part, but as others have said, not sure of the process. Keep up the info and I will try to better understand what is needed and how I could at least look in or maybe be a part!

Wow! I didn't realize how bad the strings were on my Blueridge accoustic until I put the new ones on today. What a pleasing different sound the new strings make. I am happy!

Re: Performing for the Park tonight (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Ok, here is a little video of what I was doing at Hidden Acres. Not the best choice of songs I would have made, but when someone offers to record, you allow them. Video quality, my singing and playing are questionable, but it is what it is. I had fun, they enjoyed what I did, I took requests and if I knew it or had it in my three ring binder, we tried it. Lots of fun, lots of food and a very good group (around 40 of them) to share music with. All in all a good time.
Like someone said, when they ask you to play, it is always nice! Hope you enjoy!

Topic: Performing for the Park tonight (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Just found out last nite that several of the residents in the park where I have been staying have been listening to me play outside the last couple of weeks and have scheduled a "surprise" get together at the clubhouse tonight where everybody brings their snacks, finger foods and beverages and listens to me play for them. They didn't really asked, just planned it! I think it will be fun as this group is very entertaining themselves and have alot of fun. Now, if they only understand the quality of my playing and singing is what it is, we will all be okay! Wish me luck. Maybe I can get some pictures, video etc. Oh well, that is tonight; right now I am headed out fishing!

Ok Cam, come on down. You would be welcome! Last night 8 or nine frogs and a couple of catfish gave their life for my dinner. Today it is a bit colder right now about 50ish but sun is coming on strong. I sat outside and played guitar for over an hour and has alot of the residents here come by, most just smiled and nodded. A few stopped, listened and gave postive comments. One said I should put a tip jar out in front of me. Another said I should be careful or they will have me playing in the community center on Saturday nite. The higher the sun gets, the sooner I am headed to the boat for a little "green" bass chasing. I know Zurf, the smallies are more fun to catch, but an Ohio fellow fishing in January with sunshine doesn't much care what I am catching because I am fishing instead of sitting indoors at home 'bitchin" about the cold.

Dirty Ed; I am staying right on the Kissimmee River about 15 miles north of Lake Okechobee. I brought my boat with me and have fished every day. I took my guitar out on the boat with me today and tied up in the middle of nowhere and played for awhile to the alligators, turtles, and the cows that were grazing in the fields near the river. How peaceful! Caught a nice 4.5 lb largemouth today; after some pictures she was returned unharmed to where she came from. I am a firm believer in CPR -- Catch, Photo and Release to be caught again some day after having some offspring. Only my grandkids, family and Chrissy still working keeps me in Ohio during the winter months. This is wonderful!

Topic: Wow! New 4G wireless device really working well (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Last year I purchased an LG 4G wireless device to get my internet from as we built a new home out in the middle of the county and no providers are around us. Bottom line is I could only get a 3G signal; it wouldn't pick up the 4G effectively. I went back to the Verizon store the other night and discussed how to best connect my new little tablet and they shipped me my own little 4G MiFi device. This device allows me to run my desktop, my laptop and my tablet on a wireless network. I had to purchase a USB connector for my desktop to work, but so far, everything seems great and it is much faster than what I had before. I also can just pick the small MiFi device up and carry it with me whereever I go. I like it; so far anyway.

Hey Pete! I love it as well. As for you needing work, I don't think so! I appreciate what you do and having another of us older guys trying to have a little fun is great. Keep em coming; no more of that talk about jumping in because we already have and the water is not toooooooo deep and not tooooooooo cold. Just having fun is what it should be all about. Once I put that in perspective, I have moved ahead. Talk to you soon. Big Jim

Re: Neon Moon, Brooks and Dunn cover (10 replies, posted in My local band and me)
There's my buddy Pete! I think it sounds pretty good, not sure what mixer settings you are concerned with. In one of your earlier videos, I noticed you using a capo. Since I started using mine, I noticed I can play around with it and it makes a big difference on some songs with not having to stretch my voice to fit the key. On some songs that capo could be your best buddy as well. Sometimes the song indicates to play it in a certain spot, but I experiment a little until it gets more comfortable to sing it. Food for thought; however, bottom line is I am glad you jumped back in here and I enjoy what you do.

Re: New Year Chessboard Project (28 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
When my sons were youngsters I taught them the game, treating it as if it were a special treat just to learn how to play. The real treat was the time spent by me with my sons.
I think the strategies of learning to play chess well can have a profound affect on your thinking in life. Stop and think about what you are going to do, what will be the result of you doing that and how others will react to what you have done. The best players see many moves ahead and make better preparations. I used to teach management and supervisory classes and used the game of chess as an analogy for how they should conduct themselves in their real life situations. The experience of learning, evaluating, deciding and then adjusting to the consequences of our decision is really what all of us do in life. Those that get better at it get better at all of life's decision. I even wrote an entire chapter in a book I am working on about the value of playing chess and it's affect on your thought processes.
Didn't realize a discussion over a chess set could get so deep, did you? Sorry, just something I have been passionate about for a long time.

Jets: Thanks for the reply! Sometimes a news story or something I have read just prompts me to say that should be in some lyrics. Still learning, but having agreat time with all of this. Dino, Unlike the great guy Benson Pete, I have not gravitated to You Tube. I think it has been enough so far to inflict my playing and singing on the world without having them have to stare at my mug as well. There is a link to a soundclick audio file if you missed it. Thanks for checking in.

I hope the new year brings you the time to do those things you desire, the desire to do those things you wish to do and the health to make it all happen. Keep the music coming! I feel like this year Chordie and all you fine folks have become kind of an extended family! Thanks for being there! A great year starts today with a great day; so have one!

I got a webcam this week so I decided to give this a quick video record. No editing, just me playing and singing at my computer.
I read about a young man who was a troubled youth and wanted out of the small town he grew up in. This song is about wanting something, not sure what you want and getting more than you were prepared for. Most of us have moments where we want and haven't thought out our wishes.

Hey Zurf! Only a few of us Ohioans end up in the underside of a boat......Come to think of it, everybody I know from Ohio has been in the water at least once during a fishing trip. Maybe you are on to something. Thanks for the info. That makes my decision a little easier knowing that I can at least wet a line in addition to the quality campground activity. I will put it on my calendar and see how things go!
