I've been out and treated myself to an early christmas pressie today. After trying 7 different tele's from a Mexican Blacktop, (not great) to a 52 Hot Rod Reissue, (great but expensive in the UK), I decided on a Classic Player Thinline Deluxe. I so wanted to love the Hot Rod and the tone and sustain on it was amazing but the re-issue neck is just too chunky for me and I've made the mistake in the past of thinking "I'll get used to it" when I bought a Les Paul that 6 months later was sold on eBay. The Thinline, despite being Mexican, is finished beautifully and without too much of a difference in tone between the two humbuckers which the Blacktop had. Set up straight from the factory is excellent and as good as the Hot Rod which was £1000 more expensive! It sits nicely with my Japanese Tele and now gives me all the tones I need so hopefully that's the end of my GAS, he says!

I've now got to move some out, the missus has said that she doesn't want the sitting room looking any more like a guitar shop than it already does so I'm getting rid of my Classic 60's Strat and my Epiphone Wildkat, if anybody on this side of the water is interested let me know.

Russ,

in the UK Boss pedals don't come with anything, no lead not even a battery!

yes Amy it only requires 2 guitar chords the unit has a ac/dc converter power chord so it runs on either 8 ccc batteries or it can be pluggen into an outlet smile

smile  Thanks for the tip Russell!  My only dilemma is my husband is a NOTORIOUS last minute shopper... so I'll have to talk him into this very soon if it's to get here in time for Christmas!  I'm going to do a little research today and talk with him and get back to you asap.  smile

Jerry - Thanks for the response.  It's good to know that Boss is top of the line (especially since that's what Russell's selling).

So if I get this right... guitar plugs into pedal then you need the same type of chord to go from pedal to amp... and pedal also needs power.  So really, we'll just need ONE extra lead because he obviously already has one that he uses from the guitar to the amp.

But with Boss stuff you have to buy the transformer separately, no need to buy a Boss one though as they are stupidly expensive in comparison to a no name one that does exactly the same thing!

OH Amy, you've opened a can of worms with this one!

I like Boss stuff, it's pretty much bullet proof, reasonable priced and there are loads about. It all really depends what you want to spend.

Your son likes classic rock so how about a distortion pedal. He'll need two leads, (one from the guitar to the pedal and another from the pedal to the amp. You'll also need a power lead for the pedal.

Or alternatively, for a bit more money what about a Boss multi effects unit. This will give him a choice of effects and a chance to play around. A nice unit is the Boss ME25. You'll need the same stuff as for a single pedal.

For little less money the Danelectro Cool Cat range are pretty good. Metal bodies and some really nice effects. Same stuff applies regarding the extras that you'll need.

Pretty handy.  If you've got time, try building the chord you want without help.  Figure out three places on the neck to play it, whatever it is.

Good advice that

Well that's exactly what I do Z. Ok, I know the licks and runs that I'm playing but I don't plan it or a practice any given solo, I just play what I feel. I'm sure somebody like Jerome will come along and explain it better than I ever can!

Mrs Buzzwagon has one too, not worth a great deal but passed on to her by her Grandma. I can't tell the difference between the sound of one violin and another to be honest but its a nice talking point.

Jerry

The obvious Paul McCartney
Albert Lee, (Heads, Hands and Feet), (now performing with Hogans Heroes, and very good they are too)
Chas Hodges (Heads, Hands and Feet)
Eric Clapton (and he only lives down the road from me)
Status Quo, (still cranking out twelve bar blues and still yet to find a fourth chord!)
Dave Gilmour (ex Floyd) still sounding good
Roger Waters (ex Floyd and about to tour The Wall next year)
Focus. Still going strong
BB King
Santana
Van Morrison
Paul Simon
Bob Dylan

I could go on, there are plenty from the 60's who are still around and haven't succumbed to the not so inevitable booze or drugs.

I use a Boss RC-2. Like all Boss products brilliantly put together and it feels pretty much bulletproof, I can't find any downsides to it.

Ali, Frazier, Foreman and Norton, what a division it was then, the Klitchko's wouldn't have a gone more than a round with any of them.

I've built 3 RHS medal winning gardens, 2 at the Chelsea Flower Show and 1 at the Hampton Court Flower Show and I'm also an Observer, (Trainer), for the Institute of Advanced Motorcylists here in the UK. I'm actually much better at landscaping and riding bikes than I am at playing the guitar!

Hey Zurf

Marion, my wife plays the piano so we were goign through pretty much the same process recently. Both of us were really impressed with the Yamaha's, they do pretty much everything you could ever want, most have "true feel" keys and full size 88 key keybords. They are a bit on the pricey side but Marion really rated them.

My personal favourite Colgate Toothpaste and their "Pro Argin Formula", the way it's advertised the guy seems to be making out that this is new thing just breaking cover that will change the World.

Doesn't work in the UK Rog, we had Bliars missus, Cherie, for too many years so pretty much anything went come the end of the thieving, money grabbing, lying, murdering, war mongers term. Mind you, the fact that she looks like The Joker didn't help.

The lovely Sam Cameron though is another kettle of fish!

Piano and a fiddle, and Mrs Buzzwagon plays both! Put frets in front of her though and she's lost.
