Here is another video showing very brief shots of the guitar player, its not enough for me to help you but it does show you where he is capo'd.

Sounds like something one of my kids would say. I don't know where they get it from but it sure is amusing to here some of the things they come up with!

Great Seinfeld skit, I think you are on to something.

Sounds like Elixers are not the magic string that music stores would like you to believe. I use uncoated Martins, about $6 a pack and never have any trouble with string breakage. Sure they tarnish and go dead quicker but the cost a bunch less and I get new strings more often, and new string day is a great day in my opinion.

Maybe there is a collectors market for old guitar strings. I would look into it before I used any guitar strings that were 50 years old, you may have something of some value. If they are not collectible then it cant hurt to try em!

I have several inexpensive guitars and one that falls into the cheap crappy category. Its a squier by fender accoustic and also the biggest piece of junk, trying to be passed off as a real guitar, that I have ever played. I spent over a year of my life trying to learn on that thing and I am just waiting for the right time to smash it on something. When that day comes I promise it will be a good day. Hey toots, do you think the kid next door to you would be willing to break another guitar over his sisters head? big_smile

My wife rarely lets me loose in the kitchen but I love it when she does. The last time I was in charge of dinner I did beer battered fish and chips, I don't know why but it just sounded good. As usual it cost a small fortune and created a huge mess in the kitchen (which is why I am not allowed in there often) but the reviews were good, I even heard resteraunt quality in there. I am usually just in charge of the grill outside but sometimes it is fun to get inside and get creative.

I don't know what you mean by at my own speed but the chord changes do not look too fast in the song but the strumming will be tough to master. If you like it and really want to learn it I don't think it would be that hard. Just listen to it over and over again until you have the rythem stuck in your head and sit down and try to duplicate it. Repeat this process over and over again until you get it. Also don't try to sing it until you can play it all the way through. Once you master playing the song then you can add in the singing. It has taken me long periods of time to learn songs I have heard most of my adult life but once you develop a system to learn songs that works for you it will become easier to add new songs to your play list.

I work a 3 day on and 3 day off rotation so I have plenty of time to practice on my off days but I have hardly played at all the past 3 days. I tried to play some today but could not get a clean chord change at all. I felt like a beginner again, a little discouraging. This usually happens to me before a big breakthrough such as learning bar chords or getting strumming and singing at the same time so I can't wait to see what is next. Does anybody else get burned out on practice or playing and if so how long does it usually last?

I can probably name 30 beers that I like, as a matter of fact I cant think of one that I don't like, I mean we are talking about beer here. As far as warm beer I will have to disagree with you on that one. For me the colder the better, You know you have them right when little ice chunks form at the top when you open the beer.

So I got home from work and thought I should enjoy a few of my favorite adult flavored beverages this evening. The first one was great, just what you might expect after a hard day of work. The second was very questionable, poor taste and unusual smell, so I reluctantly poured it down the sink and retrieved number 3 which was back on par with number one. Potential disaster averted. Has anyone else found one skunky beer in a case, I can't think of any other time when this has happened and I hope it never happens again as wasting beer is not in my nature.

I usually play Martin Marquis strings. I have tried all of the coated strings (Elixers, D'addaro EXP, and Earnie Ball) but I do not like any of them. I went in to buy some strings and asked the guy at the shop what he played and of course he said Elixers. I told him I did not like them and showed him the strings I usually buy. He suggested D'Addario's for a similar sound but longer life. In fact he said they have to change the strings on their Martin guitars (at their expense) just to keep them playable for customers but Taylor sends a rep around regularly to keep their guitars strung with fresh strings at no charge to the shop. I have not put them on yet but maybe the D'Addario's will be the strings that get me off the Martin kick.

I don't know about your guitar either but here is a site with some good information about guitar setup, care and maintenance. I hope you get your s35 playing great.

Congrats Topdown

I have seen people on Youtube put the lit cigarette in between the string and the headstock. It does look cool but not cool enough to start smoking just to do it. Oh well I guess I will have to find another way to be cool.

What I consider to be my first real guitar(not a cheap piece of crap with terrible action like the squier if bought first) is an Alvarez RD8, it is not much to look at and does not sound amazing but it is very easy to play. I had to sand the bridge down to get the saddle low enough to have good action and I straightend the neck with the truss rod but now the action is great. I recently bought an Ibanez AW100 that equally good action and playability, it is much prettier and sounds better so I thought it would become my go to guitar. After having it about 3 weeks I have found myself with the Alvarez in my hands much more often. The Alvarez is just so comfortable to me, I have learned everything I know on it and will never get rid of it I just wanted to move on to a better guitar. Does anyone else have a guitar that they just can't retire for a better one?

I will never forget that day, I was stuck at work and my wife was at home less than a month away from delivering our first child and she was very scared about what was going on. Every year  9/11 reminds me  to be thankful for every day I come home from work to my family, so many people lost that opportunity on that day. If you need a shot of patriotism check out Darryl Worley Have You Forgotten or Toby Keith Courtesy of the Red White and Blue, some other artists responses to 9/11.

I wish my commute time to the bar was the same as yours, of course that would certainly effect my productivity in a negative way.

I like to Take it Easy and I often wonder Who'll Stop the Rain. I am just a Simple Man and I wish they would leave this Long Haired Country Boy alone.

When you get 12-15 people of varying age groups together what songs do you think they all know? We regularly have get togethers with our neighbors but none of my neighbors seem to have the same musical interests as me. What are some popular songs that you keep in your book for these types of occasions. I can play most major and minor chords and some 7ths but I protest the B chord in any form.

I struggled with learning songs that way. There are some very talented people on Youtube covering songs. I find someone who does a good job on the song I want to learn and watch them. There are a couple of benefits, the first one being that you can hear just the guitar without all of the other instruments to distract you. Also you can usually see what chords are being played, If there is a chord you don't recognize you will have to look it up so you will learn more chords. You can also see how they add in imbelishments.

I recorded myself singing and playing the other day and when I played it back I couldn't believe how terrible it sounded to me. I told my wife I probably should not be talking much less singing with this voice but she said it did not sound bad. Apparently most people do not like the sound of their voice when they first hear it. Has anyone had any experience with this and if so how long does it take to adjust to the sound of your voice. Will I ever know what other people hear when I sing?

We are shopping for a left handed guitar for my wife but are not having alot of luck finding any selection at a store.  There are plenty of options online but she wants to see, hold and play the guitar before buying.  I like the baby taylor and think this would be a good size for her because she is pretty small and would probably have a hard time with a full size.  I have never seen a left handed guitar but assume that the sound and action of any model would be the same in left or right handed.  Also does anyone know of a place around Atlanta that might have a large selection of used guitars, like a specialty pawn shop?  I want her to get a guitar she is happy with because my first guitar almost caused me to quit learning.
