I'm 63 come September, i've been playing about a year.  I'm from Belfast Northern Ireland,
and I agree this is a great site, ask for help and it is forthcoming.  Although , I have only been playing for about a year, I have a good grounding in Music Theory, because I played a flute
when i was a lot younger, a lot younger. I played in the same band that James Gallway started
in, you had to learn music or you couldn't join, don't worry if you don't understand what I'm talking about, Jeames the new member from Belfast will know.

Luck to all. !!!

I was reading one of the topics' last week it was posted by "gitaardocphil," he seemed to be a bit down at the time due to his health.  Anyway he said he could only play for thirty minutes or so, and he only played for himself; then he said that's when he used his KORG ? I forget the exact name but something about drums or some kind of backing machine. And of course I could not find the Topic again  I wonder if Doc; that's what lots of members call him so I hope he does not mind me calling him that.
I fly out to America on Tuesday for three weeks, and if I knew what this Korg thing was if it was any good I could problay buy it in the USofA a lot cheeper than here in Belfast, in one ot the Three Music shops we have for a city the size of Belfast it is quite big.
Well if anyone can help, even Doc himself I would be greatful; but Monday Night is the deadline.

Luck to all. !!!

Hi James, I just left a message on the thread about song-writing contests, and the Book you recomended, when I stumbled upon this thread, I downloaded your song.  Now I don't think I am in a position to say anything critical about it.  However, my own view, and this is not Brown Nosing, I think with the right Singer and and a good team pushing, this could be a good song,
after all, listen to some of the tripe that out there.  Anyway which ever way it should go,
Good Luck.

Luck to all. !!!

Thanks James, although I am a long way from writing just yet it's good to know there is such a good book on the subject, as well as it being recomended by you.  I'll be in America this time next week and i think I will stand a better chance of getting it, than if I wait till I come home.  My home town Belfast, has only three Music Shops for the whole city, as for the bookshops if there is not a big market for it they just don't sell it,  So thanks.
Luck to all. !!!

Thank you James, for your thoughts, this quick message is just to say I said about letting your song books do the tslking.  This is fine but i realised I had only changed a few songs, so I removed my songbooks from the public section untill i could do them all.  however I realised i have 146 songs on the two books i put on Public View, and it will take a long time to do them all, and learn the Guitar at the same time. So I put them back out again and will do them as fast as i can.
Luck to all. !!!

Hi, I have been thinking, (which in my case is not always a good thing,) the question is this?
We all load songs off this and other sites, however, on this site we can have a Music Book,
which you can make public. Now when we load songs down to our Music Book's, do we have the right to correct these songs, I have found some wich are compleatly wrong or just have the chords in the wrong place. My own thoughts on the subjict is we should correct any songs we find that are wrong, we should then deleate the song from our Song Book and it will go back to the songs section, but in the same way as you found it. the improved copy should remain in your Song Book wich as I say should be public. After all if you are going to rechored
a song or fix it in anyway, you should have the corage to put it out there for others to see if they agree with you or they perhaps find you have made a mistake. the result would be songs that are almost perfect when being played by New Members.
Ok, the second part of the question, over use of Chords. I have noticed quite a few songs which are just mostly 3 or 4 chords at most, you have some people putting in Seventh Chords or Minor Chords, and in a few cases Chords which shouldn't even be in the song.
Remember a Major, minor or seventh chord is only one note difference, but I've seen them lettered through songs willie-nillie, (Haphazardly) which can somtime throw a Learner of.
I'd like to hear the thoughts of the other members.

Luck to all. !!!

Boy upyerkilt, you certantly opened a can of Woop-Ass on this Topic.  However, I have to say it turned into a great thread, and as you said, I think  everybody, gave their opioin,
no back bitiig, or bitching. I hope the debate goes on, it let's everybody blow of stean without offending anyone. I'll keep watching, or as Mulder would have said Watch the Fourm?

Luck to all. !!!

Well upyerkilt, you have started some thing with this one. First let me say that I personaly did not say Garth Brooks killed country.  I think it has more to do with the Record Companies,
they will only release what they think will sell, if someone comes along and sells a Gazillion
CD's and decides to call himself A Country Singer that's fine by the record guys.
As I said in my massage Merle Haggard, produced what to the critics was a great CD, he still had to self release it through Cracker Barrel Resturants, Who Just as it happens Sponser the
Grand ole Opray.  As a big Hag fan the only why I can get a copy is when I am in America next week.  I think The Grand Ole Opray need to pull their heads out of the sand and help support those singers who want to make country music the Tradionial way.  or it might find its- self on the Old Landmark Tours.  I have a few other things to point out but I will post them in the very near future.
Luck to all. !!!

I've posted a few mails on different sutes of the Forum, this is my first Topic.  I'm 63 this September 2008, i have been playing about a year, I love it.  But i have a problem, I played a flute when i was younger, the same band as James Gallway, so i have a good music and theory background, I am coming along fine playing the Guitar, I can play finger style, and I can strum, not great you understand, but for my level not bad, I am now trying Bluegrass, and here's the problem, no matter how much I try I cannot play with a Pick.
Antbody any ideas?

Luck to all. !!!

I'll be 63 this September 2008,  I've been playing about a year.   I play mostly Country, old
style Country, although I like some of the younger Country Stars, I feel that the big record
compines are only intrested in money and are moving the bar to much to the Pop Rock side,
and old time Country is dying out.  Merle Haggard who is singing better than ever had to self release his last CD through the Cracker Barrel chain of restarunts, in America.
Funny when you think of it Cracker Barrel Sponser The Grand Ole Opray, who are so stuck in their old ways they can't see the writing on the wall.  They made Garth Brooks a member, then his wife, yet many old time Country lovers think Garth Brooks killed country.
Sorry about the rant just had to get it out.

Luck to all.!!!

Just came back to see if i got a reply to my last question.
However now I am here I agree with everyone Chordie is a great site.  Not only can I download the songs I want; (Country Mostly) but if I store them in my Song Books, I can transpose them to a key that suits me and then simply put them back the way I downloaded them. Now that is realy Cool !!!!!

I agree that Chordie does a lot to promote the songs of Bands ect. for instance i can put a song in my song book, usely one in an akward Key; then i can spend time Transposing it to a key tha suits me and then print it out for my use, i always write that the song is for study only.
If I change the keyy of a song, i am hardly likely to try aand pass it of as my own and make a CD, I would have my Ass sued off in Court. But sites like Chordie do not cost the big boys money, they are just so consumed with the thought of money they think everyone is stealing of them; when it is the other way about.

Luck to all !!!!!

I'll be 63 come September, i started playing the Guitar a year ago come September.

I don't think I ever grew up even with Two Daughters and four Grandchildren.

I love Country, the real Country, I like Folk as well, and of course the Beatles; after all they
were my youth.

I may not get out of this World alive, but I'm going to hang on as long as I can.  Then they'll

have to drag me off fighting and shouting.  As we say in Belfast No Surrender!

Luck to all!!!

Hi, i'm new on this site and I love reading the letters in the Forum.  This is only my third message, so don't shout at me. Firstly I would never buy anything I had not examed myself, especily guitars.  However, where I live (Belfast Northern Ireland) there are like only three music shops in the city.  So what I did was  got to know the Guitar Tec, who is also a salesman.  I buy all my stuff in the same shop, that included a Twelve-string, Dreadnought with a built in tuner.  A six string Electro-Acustic Cutaway Dreadnought, pluss the usual odds and sods. This has been over about two years, now they have just had a new batch of Super Dreadnoughts, Tanglewood, Electro-Acustic with the lateist Fishman electricts.
Now you might think because Tanglewoods are made in the U.S.A and with the weak dallor,
agenst the pound  you would think we would get them at almost half-price, Not?
By the time import duties and mucial instruments tax, they cost almost as much if not more.
So where is this going I hear you say, well this is were getting to know the Gutiar Tec and being a loyal comstomer pays off I got the latest modle, A Super Dreadnought, electro-acoustic, which came in at £1350, Knocked down to £8995, the tec is getting me one for £425,
he is also setting it up for me, so i suppose loyalty does pay off. But the point is I know what i'm getting.
Luck to All.

Hi, i'm new on this site, but I bought a twelve string for Christmas last, 2007.
as far as I go anything sounds good.  Six string or not, the only thing is it is hard to keep an alternating strun pattern going, or to finger pick, otherwise their great.
Luck to all.

The best bet is to simply let a Guitar Tec do it, i don't think it costs too much.
Normaly the truss rod is enough to lower the strings; if you have to go shaving the bridge and the nut, how good of a Guitar was it in the first place.
Leave it to the Guitar Tec?
