I saw the reports on t.v. the other night. A terrible thing to have happen to anyone but even more so when it strikes at home. Luckily your home was spared but sorry to hear you friend lost so much. Thoughts and prayers to you and yours as your community works to recover.

Funny! I think I threw my back out laughing. LOL

Hang in there Zurf. As we're coming up to time of year when we're all prone to adding a few pounds and the fact that you're having some pain due to arthritis take any weight loss or stabilization as a victory. Take your goals as I am taking mine. One day at a time and each day a victory in itself. Even if you only lose a couple of pounds now or maintain your weight as it is, look forward to the time when you can be more active without all the holiday food to tempt you. I'm pulling for you buddy. Easy on the cake.

First day of occupational therapy today. Didn't amount to much, some testing of dexterity and grip strength. I was amazed at the difference in numbers between my right and left hands. With my right I was around 85 pounds of grip strength,my left was less than 20. A long way to go there. But on the plus side I was able to insert and remove pegs into a block (9 pegs) in 20 seconds with my right and the left took 49 seconds. I thought that was a terrible time but the therapist said I actually did better than was expected. I felt extremely clumsy but all in all they felt I did well. On Friday I'll be starting some exercises to get my fingers to loosen up and develop more strength. She feels that I should start trying to play asap even though it may be frustrating as long as I don't over do it. The scar tissue is very sensitive and still not completely healed so no barre chords for awhile. At least it seems I may be able to strum a little. Better than nothing. Thanks again to all my well wishers. You guys are great

Keith Richards and the rest of the Stones. Must be a hundred or more. LOL

Hey all, saw the hand surgeon today and he removed the wire that has been holding my tendon together. It seems that the surgery was successful and now comes rehabilitation. My entire hand is extremely swollen and stiff. At this point I have very little flexibility even in the fingers that weren't injured, but this will improve over time. I don't know if I'll ever regain full mobility but it will be what it will be. Right now I've got to regain finger strength and worry about the rest as it comes. Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers, I'm sure it made a difference. I'm so glad to be out of the splint and can actually look forward to picking up my guitar again. Again thanks to all.           Butch

I've always thought "Free Beer" would be a great name

Thanks BGD I normally try links after I post them to make sure they work. Dropped the ball on this one. Anyhow the link is fixed and working now.

I'm a huge Stevie Ray  fan and figured there might be some others out there as well. Here's a free concert  from 1984. Very cool. Stevie was a great guitarist and his band Double Trouble was just unbelievably tight. Check it out http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/stevie-ra … -show.html  You can also find other concerts here. Enjoy

I was shocked when I heard this. I've been a Penn State fan for years and always admired Joe Pa. However in light of the recent developments my respect for Paterno has slid to the basement. Simply reporting something like this to the administration doesn't go nearly far enough. Even though he didn't release a statement through the school he did have some comments seen here at this link http://www.thesmokinggun.com/buster/sex … rno-647903   I fully agree he should have gone to the cops and can't understand how he couldn't and still sleep at night. I have zero tolerance for any type of sexual predator and fully believe the world would be a much better place if we would truly make examples of this type of scum instead of some rinky dink prison sentence that doesn't seem to have much effect. Well I'll step down off my soapbox now and see what else develops

Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Maybe someday I'll be able to do the slide "bird chirps" part.

Better than average carpenter and a fair mechanic. I do all my home renovations and most of the repairs on our aging vehicles.I'm also a pretty fair hand at tracking game during hunting season and a better than average marksman. I used to be quite a pool player but haven't had my stick out of it's case in more than five years so I've probably lost a step or two there. I've also been told that I sing pretty well but I'm not to sure of that

Thanks papaguitar. The Kona's not set in stone as I've been kind of shopping around looking at different brands. I was attracted to the Kona because of looks and price, but I think I'll take a run to Pittsburgh and checkout Guitar Center and play a few before I decide. The only thing set in stone is it will be an electric/acoustic. Thanks again for the input. Butch

After reading these posts and checking out their website I have to say I'm impressed by the ingenuity but still have to wonder how these would hold up to years of use. The fact that all that holds the neck in position is a stud through the strap button makes me cautious. That is a lot of tension being held by a relatively small screw. And what happens as the wood and glue age,is that anchor point in the heel going to slip out or spin in the heel preventing you from getting the neck seated tight? At this point more questions than answers for me. I would like to  play one and be able to examine the construction more closely. I'm not saying I'd never buy one, I just need to be more assured that I'm not buying something that would end up being camp fire wood when a critical part fails

Lots of luck trying to get him to sell. Years ago a friend of mine had an old knucklehead Harley that had belonged to his dad. He didn't ride and had no intention of ever riding it but he wouldn't consider ever selling it. The fact that it was his dad's and the memories associated with it simply made it worth far more than money. He still has the bike,it sits in his basement slowly rusting away. So maybe you can get him to sell, if not now maybe in 6 months or a year. All you can do is try.

Hey as always,Chordie members come through. I appreciate the alternative suggestions but I think I'm going to pull the trigger and get a lefty. I'm still going to try to get back where I was before playing right handed but I've actually been considering doing this for some time. I lost my pinkie about twelve years ago and have been half frustrated since then because of not being able to form some chords or having to play 7th's or minors instead of the proper chord. If I can't play right handed,oh well. All 5 of my kids play at various levels of ability so they can inherit the right handed guitars. As far as learning lefty, the knowledge is there,it's a matter of muscle memory and as I'm a fairly stubborn person,I really think I can do this. Thanks again guys      Butch

And one more www.wolfgangsvault.com    Loads of classic concerts that are totally free. Remember The King Biscuit Flour Hour? It's here.

It's not my birthday but it is my daughters  (#32) Does that work for you?

I'm getting some GAS symptoms and wonder if anyone has heard of or owns a Kona guitar. I've been checking them out on line and like the looks and the materials they're made with. They seem to be a pretty nice guitar for the price but with out actually being able to play one (no local dealers) I'm kind of taking a shot in the dark. I'm leaning towards an acoustic-electric model so I have some options. And as some can guess I'm looking for a lefty model. (Not much faith as to my hand healing in a manner that I can continue to play right handed) Not that left or right would make any difference in quality, just explaining my reasons for needing a new guitar when I already own six. Anyhow, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks    Butch

Try Long Haired Country Boy by Charlie Daniels and Six Days on the Road. I've always found these to get a good response. Lots of luck BGD      Butch

Happy B-day Kap. Party hard and have a good one    Butch

We're getting some good stuff here. No Zurf I don't belong to e-chords but I've used some of the free stuff, I just kinda tossed that one in. Also that link you posted for goldhat doesn't seem to work for me. I'll have to check out those singing lessons as I can definately improve in that department.

Happy 70th Russ. A milestone for sure. Hope that you're around for many more. Oh, by the way. Roger didn't say anything.  Butch
