Interesting topic and responses I think the reason I don't post as much is the natural aging process The same reason I do not participate in chess tournaments my lack of energy or interest and health reasons I use oxygen when I go out and have to sit in a chair when I jam or play out and for the 1st time in my life I feel my age but I try my best to stay positive so there it is.

Russell
Good luck with the guitar, I hope all goes well for you.
I was wondering since you are an accomplished guitarist with a lot of experience..... what are the major differences between a Gibson and an Epiphone Les Paul model ?
Also wondering what's the difference between Guitar Center and Sweetwater - they always seem to have the same prices ?
Thanks
Jim
Hi Jim a good question, I think the difference is minuscule it really comes down to preference and pride. I own or have owned a Les Paul most of my life and a Strat my thoughts are when you play the best guitars there are no excuses for not excelling or trying too at least. With regards to Guitar Center and Sweetwater I have never dealt with Guitar Center and do not know their policies but I do trust Sweetwater from years of dealing with them and in the end, I think if your dancing with the best looking girl at the ball no need to look further

Re: Epiphone Masterbuilt in intensive care (9 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I do not see how they can correct the warp at the end of the neck or the inward warp behind the saddles but I am not a repair guy, I will see if I can loop a rhythm phrase to go with the lead fills an interesting note on the fills is the second time it is played it is a 3d below
I hope they can get your EPI back in your hands and working properly. Warped necks are not easy to fix, and often not fixable (is that a word?).
"Hoochie Koo" is one we played in a High School band I was part of. I wasn't the lead guitarist, so didn't learn any of the lead bits that both Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer played so well. It's a great song that lots of groups have covered, and hopefully "Retro Buzz" will add it to their arsenal as well.

I agree and that is why I only buy from them and with regards to light years ahead I just have been around for a lot longer with more time to practice

Good companies keep good customers!
You are light years ahead of me musically, I hope to hear our production son.

Big problem, I had to ship my Epiphone back to Sweetwater for repairs, fortunately, it is still under warranty.
I noticed there was a fret buzz starting on the 10th fret to the14th and it appears the neck has a slight warp as well as the top of the body I was told by the repair guys at Sweetwater this could be due to moisture or lack of it. Sweetwater sent me a shipping box with a prepaid shipping label and I packed it up carefully and it should be there now it is always good to do business with a company that backs up there products. I have been busy with writing and practice my latest song to learn is Eager Winters "Rock and roll Hoochee Coo" I am playing it on my Les Paul for that fat sound I love. This song has some really tasty fills and challenging lead guitar parts I managed to memorize the lyrics in about 3 days ( not as fast as I used to be old age ) I find I am using my Atomic Effects more and more because I was able to program each effect and assign them to one of the two way buttons making 6 different effects I can access with a foot switch. I did also find a few musicians to jam with and looking forward to warmer weather.

Also, a manual is very handy to have it cuts down the learning curve and if none is available you can always google a pdf file online for this unit.

Yes it is I have one, But I find it more suitable for use as a recording asset than a performance one only because it takes time to switch keys for harmony but it has some nice features including a loop function and great reverb and delays you just have to play with it to find how it best suits your needs.

Re: Acoustic Vs. Electric Technique (12 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I use lighter strings on electric than my acoustic I agree there is a difference between the two, most of my composing is done on an acoustic even recording to a click track that I add electric and bass too. My style of playing is quite different on electric because you can express yourself more with effects and volume control.

Re: Ever Been Thrown Out Of A Band? (12 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Yes on one occasion, In Las Vegas I agreed to play with a guy and his wife for a gig upstate in some small town. His wife played a Hammond organ with bass pedals and he played drums, halfway into the gig he got ticked off at what I was saying on the mike in between songs ( it was clean) he just didn't like me and told me to take my gear and leave but I told him since I was a member of the Musicians Union he had to pay me for the gig he said no and I called the musicians union and they sent a representative while I waited. begrudgingly he forked out my money and I had no transportation home so I had to carry my amp and guitar to the highway and hitch a ride back to Las Vegas that was the only time I recall being told to leave but I did leave several bands for various reasons.

Re: NGD Fender Elite (33 replies, posted in Electric)
The Fender Bullets comment made me laugh ! Years ago I played a Fender Mustang, and went through about 4 sets in one gig. The darn strings kept launching those little swedged on "Bullets" across the stage literally like their namesake. Turns out they had been over-crimped and a whole lot of them suffered breakage ballistically and were eventually recalled.
Went back to Ernie Ball's and didn't look back. No lawsuits, but spent more time changing strings than playing that night. The Bar crowd was in good humour.... one would go "Ping", i'd cuss, they'd laugh and I'd go to work as a "Techie". Some memories just make you chuckle.
been there

Re: NGD Fender Elite (33 replies, posted in Electric)
Wow
These conversations blow my mind !I did not realize musicians go through so many strings. I think I have changed my strings twice the whole time I have owned my guitars.
However, I don't play or practice nearly as often as any of you.
I can't imagine a string breaking - why does that happen? Is it because you strum too hard, bend to much or what ?
Jim
Jim sometimes you don't change strings often enough or your using to stiff of a pick or the right string for your style (gauge)

I will keep my fingers crossed for you My friend Jim who just got the same model as me suggested Elixir but I will switch to GHS .09 to .043 they have always been very reliable and longer lasting, I like the innovations especially the pickups noiseless and real punchy the tone is outstanding nuff said
Funny you should mention that, my Srat always sounded better with GHS strings! Yet the Tele is better with Fenders...go figure?
My pal Adrian (big Ade to his mates) tried some Earnie Balls, I said I've tried them in the past and they're too bendy. I saw him a week later and he told me they were in the bin, he plays finger picking style so they sound out of tune all the time, back to bullets!
Phill I think the bottom line iis you have to go with what works for you, The Strat and Tele are two different animals I have both and notice a difference in sustain, volume, and ease of playing so you gotta trust your experience.

WOW!!! this Strat is outstanding only one thing to make it better is to change strings. my friend who is a good player just got one and told me the same thing but other than that it plays and sounds beautiful! I will put up a video when I get the chance I am really busy with a new song and I get together tomorrow for a recording session to lay a rhythm track with the drummer
the bass and primary rhythm tracks were recorded last week along with a rhythm machine and then come the vocals and harmonies and of course a nice tasty lead solo

With the exchange rate, that works out very similar. All the ones I've seen on the web have the hard case also. I did find a site advertising the maple neck but I want to see if they'll take my old Strat in part exchange. I don't play it now, but I miss the whammy bar! Then I still have to work on Ann!!!!!!!! Wish me luck
Keeping my fingers crossed for you most will not except a trade in I tried that and was told to sell it on Reverb.com Happy Holidays to you and Ann

Re: NGD Fender Elite (33 replies, posted in Electric)
The pic came up with me! I fell in love immediately. Then I checked out Jim's vid and loved it even more. So I checked out the price on UK websites...£1400 or there about, lefties are £1800 ish and that's with the rosewood neck. If I'm going to get one, and I really want one, I want a maple neck. I wonder how much they'd want for that?
Just as an aside. Clapton saw various Americans playing Strats in the late 60s, but couldn't get the maple neck in the UK, so he bought several in the US while on tour with Cream!
Phill it is more then a beautiful guitar it has some updates on the fretboard which make it lot easier to reach the notes on the upper frets and I like the maple necks also, there is no difference in price for the maple neck at Sweetwater I wound up playing (with tax) 1740.00 and it includes a hardshell case!

Russell
Got it now - what a beautiful guitar. I would love one, but way ut of my price range. If I had the skills of some the players on here I might consider it, but with my playing ability it would be a poor investment.
Thanks for showing this Russell - and many happy hours of playing this beauty!
JIM
Thanks Jim it is a beauty to be sure, I have an ongoing account with Sweetwater for the last 10 years I run up my credit and pay it down but it seems I am always finding new toys so in effect I am leasing not owning but it works for me To get the skills you have to practice and study if you wish to excel this is a formula for life in any endeavor
