I would suggest using reaper....REAPER is a fully featured multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing, and mastering environment...and can be evaluated with full functionality...
http://www.reaper.fm/
Computer specs for reaper
Recommended system: Multiple processors, Windows 2000/XP/Vista with 1GB RAM, >1GB free disk space, 1280x1024 in 16.7M colors, ASIO sound drivers

Minimum system: 500mhz processor, Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/WINE with 128MB RAM, 10MB free disk space, 800x600 in 256 colors or higher, Windows compatible sound hardware

AUDIO
get yourself a 1/4female-1/8 male adapter to plug from your instrument to your soundcard (mic input or line in input) and you are good to go..

there are audio interfaces out there that you can use to record instead of going into you audio card on your puter....some are USB interfaces and some are Firewire interfaces....From what ive read...the firewire is the way to go...but you will need a firewire card installed into a pci slot on your puter if you dont already have one..

MEMORY and Processor
The more you have the better...when i started i used a 1.2 ghz laptop with 128mb ram and 30 gig hardrive on Windows XP....about 4 tracks was all i ever used then but i wasnt using alot of effects...and it held up fine....

Learning
Play around with it....getting started sections are a good way to get the concept of how the software is setup...

good guess topdown...i was scratching my head on this one...lol

I believe thats been there ever since i signed up....a year or so ago...

I just downloaded a file from your mediafire page selso called "FreeHi-Q_1-11-2009_12"...it wasnt in mp3 format...not sure what kind of file it was to be honest...my puter wouldnt open it....
you will need to "export" or "save as" mp3.....what recording program are you using?

I agree with zurf...once your fingers get used to the correct clean position....you will get faster

Just checked out the video...well done on that!

unzip...then copy the ambience.dll file into your audacity plugins folder....it should show up there then...in audacity it only shows the sliders instead of the graphic image that you see from the website you got it from...i think reaper will show the image...but not certain...

if you have any trouble ill help ya all i can...good luck

you will need to upload the song to another site...such as myspace, mediafire or reverbnation or some other site of your choice...then provide a link to it...

I have it going from the preamp into the mic port on the computer. The battery is new so I don't think it is that. While experimenting I found that lowering the treble and uping the bass on the preamp makes less static. Why is that?

If you are going into the mic input...try recording without the preamp..like russell suggested....i dont think the mic input requires it anyway....but if you are going to use a preamp...go into the "line in" input and turn the line in volume up....you may be overdriving the mic input by using the preamp and causing the noise

for your volume problems....check your volume control properties and make sure the volumes are turned up...line in...wave...etc..

Greetings "Chordians",

Well this is a first for me.... not being a writer (music anyway), but I kind of have a lyric that needs polishing and turned into a tune.  I'm thinking that it has kind of a "new country" feeling, but needs work to get it all together.

So if anybody would like to take a whack at it, drop me an e-mail and I will send you the "words" along with a little background so you will have an idea of where the story came from.  Basically I have got a chorus and a few verses, might need some kind of bridge, and perhaps a few lines to tie up the loose ends.

Sorry there is no music for with it as it just came to me this morning, and I haven't really delved into it.  But I am open to anything y'all come up with.  I guess that makes it a "poem"....  for the moment at least.

Thanks and Take Care;
  Doug

i will take a whack at it doug...we are gonna get together this weekend and jam and we can see if we can come up with anything..time permitting
