I'm a regular pick person. I've used a few different thumb pick but they just don't have the bendable feel to them. Do they make thin thumb picks? If so who because i'd like to try one.

Re: What about "better" amps (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I have and love a Vox Valvetronix 30. It's one of the "hybrid" amps - a tube pre-amp section, digital effects and amp models, and a solid state power amp. The sounds are wonderful, and (to my ears, YMMV), a far cry beyond the pure digital amps or modelers. It has the dynamics and pick attack sensitivity Joe mentions above and puts a huge array of sounds at my disposal. Just my 2 cents.
I too own a hybrid amp the Vox VT50 which is far better than any other amp in it's price range that i've tried. As Joe said once you have the experience with an amp that has such potiential you won't want it any other way.

Re: Improve your touch and your tone (3 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Very wise advise. I've noticed that some of the heavier songs i play tend to be buzzy so with this advise i'll lighten up and see what happens. Thanks for sharing. I also have a pretty big book of songs i like to work on daily just to keep myself sharp so i don't lose the touch for each one.

Re: Wlbayes explanation of chord progressions. (3 replies, posted in Music theory)
I've found it easier to learn by key and what chords are in that key instead of a number pattern. It also helps a lot to learn by ear. Playing barre chords is another whole thing for me though. I have trouble combining barres and open chords in a single progression.

Re: Ceramic or Alnico Pickups? (5 replies, posted in Electric)
Thanks for the feedback Joe. I checked out your site and found it informative. I decided against the AL 2000 and just went ahead and got the upgraded AL 3100 simply because of the binding and handmade nut and filed frets. I'm expecting delivery any day this week. I'm sure i'll love it.

Topic: Ceramic or Alnico Pickups? (5 replies, posted in Electric)
I'm looking to buy a new Agile Al Les Paul copy. The decision has come down to which pickups. The Al 2000 has ceramic but the Dauntless has Seymore Duncan Alnico humbuckers. Some of you with more knowledge in this could you help me know which is the better pickup? Here are the ones i'm deciding from.

Re: WHAT AMP DO YOU USE: ELECTRIC/ACOUSTIC? (10 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I play my electric thru a Vox VT15 and my acoustics thru a Ibanez Troubadour T35. Both fit my needs pretty well. If i were to play out i use a Fender Champ 900 and just use the built in effects on it with the footswitch.

Re: New to playing (28 replies, posted in Acoustic)
A 12 string shouldn't any harder than a 6 as long as you have long enough fingers and they are strong enough to press 2 strings instead of 1 for each chord position. To each thier own and i wish you well with it.

Re: bored !!!! i need something new (20 replies, posted in Acoustic)
There are millions of songs to be played more than one way. When i start getting bored with my material i find more even if i've never heard them and i play them the way i want them to sound as in my time and strum pattern. Alot of good advise from everyone else also. As Zurf stated playing along with the TV works. My lead and play by ear skills started improving when i started doing this a few months ago.

Re: i need help (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Maybe you could record yourself playing the chords to the song then go back on the electric and fill in the leads.I'd spend one day learning the rhythm or chords to get it down then the next two to learn the lead and solos. As for the strum patterns just listen to the music and strum it in time with the drum beat or bass count. It really helps to have a metronome to help with timing for stumming. Good Luck and i hope this helps. Oh and welcome to the forum

Re: Epiphones! (20 replies, posted in Electric)
Just for the fact that all LP copies weight in at around 10 lbs unless it's chambered and you are of small stature you should go with the DOT. Then again you might find a nice Strat or Tele that fits you alot better. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Hi to all ! (21 replies, posted in Electric)
Welcome to the forum Gag and Joe. I'm sure you both will add alot to the group on here.
Gag as for the amp you might want to look into at least a 40 watt tube amp or a 75 to 100 watt if you get solid state for small gigs especially if there is a drummer in the mix and congrats on the Strat.:)

Re: What's your favorite book??? (59 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm not much for reading anything other than the King James Holy Bible which i have yet to finish without starting over. I have read a few of Max Lucado books and a couple of Autobiographies by some of the retired pro wrestlers. I guess i'm more of a magazine reader.

Some times you just need to leave your work at work and home at home. I used to have the same problem but when i started refusing to think about work at home it all worked out. Relax and cast all of your cares on God and he will see that the weary gets rest.

Re: Martin DX1 or Epiphone Dove (5 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
The 1 Series Martins are all wood and fairly affordable at around $800 with a hard case. I actually compared one to a Martin D18 and it sounded better and played easier. For the money i agree that the Maserbuilt Epiphones are also very good.

I didn't realise he was banned until I read Phil's entry.. LISTEN PLEASE We all open our mouth and say things which we wish we hadn't. Please if anyone should take a back seat and stop commenting It should be me.
As you all know I am not to long a member here, and this forum could be Rage's whole intrest, He may have learnt something by his objection. Sometimes we all open our mouth at the wrong time.
Pastor Laurence
This is surely the way of Christ. The guy made an attack on you and what you are for and you give him the gift of forgiveness and plea for his return. I wish we could all be this way. Thank You Pastor for the perfect example of forgiveness that should remind us that it is a daily thing and not only for the holidays. Well done moderators. I see it as one less trouble maker.
