There is a certain mood that surrounds Martin guitars. However, there is still no replacement for quality instruments, and there is no denying that Martin makes a quality instrument. It's also all about taste. If he likes his Martin and hates his Les Paul, sure. That's his choice. If, on the other hand, a Martin owner wants to tell you that his guitar is better than your Les Paul because its a Martin, despite the fact that the two cannot realistically be compared since one is a solid-body electric and the other is an acoustic aimed at a completely different market, he's an idiot, and that alone should give you satisfaction.

The '59 reissue PAF's should approximate that sound, more or less.

Because it's broken and is probably screwing up your intonation, possibly?

Some of the people on this site never cease to amaze me.

This is why i think Buckethead is so great. No musicality? Which planet are you from?

Have a look at 'Young Buckethead'.

Still don't see it.

All I hear is a few irritating drones, a bad EQ mix, and some weird squeaks. I'm a minute and a half in. That's enough.

EDIT: When he gets in to the Bach part, it's pretty cool. Still not worth the two minutes of BS he puts us through at the beginning.

If that works, it's probably not a good sign.

A mex Strat is hardly a copy. It's a real Fender. A very nice instrument for the money, too, even if you have an aversion to bolt-on necks like I do.

If you must have a Strat copy, a company called Stagg makes a much better one than the Squier for the same price.

Hey, I wasn't going to chime in with the Martin brand debate, but since we're now BMW bashing, I need to step in. I've had a BMW  convertible for the past ten years. Still have it. The car never broke down, although I'm always buying tires for it. I'm no snob, but if you have ever driven a BMW, you know that they are fun to drive and are damn reliable machines. I can't wait for the new BMW model One to come out this year!
I have also owned (and still do) American cars and Japanese ones. And please don't remind me of the Pacer I once drove (it was a loaner, ouch!).
These cheesy boxes don't even compare when it comes to driving fun, quality and chick appeal. There is something about BMWs that attracts women just like my Fender American Strat. Both the Fenders and the BMW are quality instruments. Now go back in the garage and kick your Chrysler K car (or the plastic Mustang and Corvette.)
Play on!

A guy I know has several BMW's. A 1973 2002 Turbo, an M5, and two M3 CSL's. If you know what a CSL is, you'll know how big of a deal that is. The M5 is his street car, the '73 2002 and one of the CSL's are track cars, and the other CSL is set up for pavement rally. The 2002 broke down a lot last time I saw it, even lost the differential. The CSL's are near stock and the one I've seen is stripped out and caged. Hasn't broke yet.

Piano is a great theory tool, LR.

Not old enough for the album thing...but it was ACDC Live.

So the Martin owner is the BMW owner of guitars then...they don't buy it because it's good, they buy it so they can show off. hmm

Odd how most of the people who claim that BMW owners buy their cars to show off with have never driven one or even had a good look at one.

Randy Rhoads.

TIM & SGinCYQX (you have the most difficult NICK NAME) that was exactly what I was thinking.
If you are rich, and you are obsessed by guitars, and house decoration, I think I would by some of these guitars.
In your house (most made from wood) you give them a nice place on your wall.
ADMIT: The carving is real great, some are EXAGERATED, others not, and yet FANTASTIC as decoration.

I agree, if I could afford the Ric I'd buy it, and play it.

As for my username, it's SG (like the guitar)-in-CYQX (Radio code for the airport in my hometown.)

Please tell me that's not your comment on the vid. (First one)

Very nice looking guitar, looks almost PRS-ish.

Bootlegger.

Thanks Bootlegger! I was hoping you'd check in here.

Eh, maybe it's an 85? I know I've got an 81 and an 85, but I never remember which is which.

I think I'm just going to take it to the tech at the music store where I got it-I've been too busy to tear it apart myself, not to mention I have no experience with electronics and I don't particularly want to cut my teeth on my favorite guitar.

The 81 has the EMG logo in sliver and the 85 has the logo in gold, as stated (hope that does not sound snutey) the 85  is for the neck position and the 81 is for the bridge position.

Bootlegger

Yep, you're right then. The 85 is in the neck, I was confused. Thanks Bootlegger!

Great song!

I hate Wal Mart (Oh, no, here he goes...) thanks to them I had to stop playing and riding for two months straight. (Me being a jackass didn't help, either...)

Easy. The Les Paul. The SG looks and sounds better IMHO, but the Les Paul was probably the most essential solidbody guitar ever.

I will have a Gibson LP someday, dammit.
