9111tabs.com is a good place to search too. Chordie is better though, you don't have the wisdom of the Chordians on any other site!!

Re: Performance - Need Help! (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I think that's top advice Ken. I've played at a number of parties for my mates and wives / girlfriends etc. I always do exactly what you suggest. The only thing I'd say from shambolic experience is not to get TOO into party mode. When I do that my fingers turn into wet spaghetti and my playing falls to bits. Stick on the right side of tipsy and you'll be loose enough to relax but with it enough to play well.
The most important thing for me, whilst admittedly a cliche, is to have fun and remember that most people will be well impressed you're even stepping up. If it was easy everyone would be playing.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'm thinking about adding a wee bridge before the last verse but will update the post on here when or if I do.
As always, thank you very much for the kind comments.

Chordpro error: This is not a valid artistname. You will have to specify an artistname in the form {st: Artistname} in the beginning of the code.
Please note: Am* is the standard Am chord, just slide it up 2 frets.
Recording now on my Myspace page. All comments welcome and thanks for listening / reading.
P.S. For the authorities - This song is NOT autobiographical

Hi Phill :-)
Yer gettin gooder...much gooder. Lots of questions that I have asked myself are written here. Great idea for a song cause you should have material for at least a million verses.
Now if you could only come up with a song that has all the answers...You'd be a rich man my friend.Well Done :-)
By the by, very cool having your tunes at soundclick. More than 10 songs is a bonus. Is it a hassle joining, or is there little tricks like at Myspace.
Danka
Kenny
Ok....I'm struggling. Where are the songs on soundclick? For the life of me, I can't find them!!

Powerful lyrics Phil, looking forward to hearing this one. Well done. Not usually into being thought provoked on a Friday night, but this made very interesting and intriguing reading. Good job!

Hey DC, just to be clear, I wasn't in any sense implying you were.....simply using the example to highlight the issues around copyright as I understand them. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, to get back on topic, I still like the song. Have you recorded it yet?

Re: t:title"three little words" 225 (18 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Nice words DC. I'm gonna go see if it's on your webpage now....
Personally I only know a bit about copyright law but I don't think there's an issue repeating a song title as long as it relates to original material. The fact being there's only a finite number of words so it's therefore not possible to copyright combinations of them, unless it's possibly for a trademark slogan.
In summary, as long as DC hasn't been churning out this many songs by craftily picking relatively obscure (but good) tunes from the past and claiming them as original work there shouldn't be an issue

Topic: Writing Motivation (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Evening all,
So I've been thinking about songwriting motivation. This really stems from thinking about playing gigs, hopefully in the future (soon) when I can work up the nerve.....
However, I worry that my own songs are all a bit gloomy and would maybe set a bit of a depressing theme. Now, to qualify this, I'd consider myself quite an upbeat fellow, cheery, some might say. However it just so happens that when I sit down to write a song, more often than not I end up writing about something close to my heart. as it is, I've not been fortunate enough to have kids etc yet so the major events in my life to date are alas, fairly sombre moments, usually involving some form of loss.
I'd be happy to sit and write a foot stomping cheery tune but as it goes, I find my songs work better when they're from the heart, and it seems whilst I'm pretty chipper, my old ticker may be a bit of a morbid fellow and the songs tend to be more ballad-y tunes.
Anyone got any advice for how to get away from this? How do you guys write, is it always from the heart and if not, how do you manage to keep your direction when writing a purely fictional tune??
Cheers,
Mark

Hey dudes and dudettes...sorry to bring an old song back to the top but I've done a new recording of this one and it's on my Myspace page now. Basically I cahnged the key and upped the tempo a bit. I think it's better. For those that may play along the capo's now on the 3rd fret....
Cheers,

Ken, you should definitely give it a go. I've taken today off to recover again....the benefits of experience. Will probably end up with a full week to recover as I get ever older. Still be worth it.
If you decide to go and camp over let me know and we can catch up for a campsite jam session. Did that last year and it was fantastic fun.
Consistently the best weekend of my year for the past 5 or 6 years now....

Re: Kilt Etiquette( Mainly for Ken) (18 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
There are other rumours abound that we don't wear anything under so that the troops didn't need to stop marching even when, well, dropping cabers
....not sure where it came from.
Also, always a source of amusement when wearing a kilt that women everywhere seem to decree themselves absolved of the normal decency laws and come have a look or grab (ouch) for themselves. Admittedly, usually to slightly half-hearted appeals of said kilt-wearer

Topic: T in the Park - What a weekend!! (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Just about managing to stay awake long enough to type this.....got back from T In the Park this morning. Exhausted, hungover, a broken man. For those not from round here, T in the Park is a music festival in Scotland, considered by some (myself included) as the best in Europe and possibly anywhere....but then I'm biased.
Check out the link if you want to see more info:
I was lucky enough to be there with my friend and we had such a fantastic time it's untrue. I know it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I personally don't think you can beat a weekend at a music festival for entertainment.
Managed to see a host of bands which was fantastic. Couple of local talents in there too: Franz Ferdinand, Paolo Nutini and Snow Patrol (ok, they're Irish, but Glasgow pinched them a few years ago )
Overall, just a fantastic weekend, although the guitar never made it out the bag at the campsite. By the end of the nights I was often, ahem, overtired and so just turned in. Next year though
Anyone else a festival fan??

Hey chordians,
Just thought I'd post very quickly about a wee video I've made to accompany my song called Forever Soldier. It's just a picture and some words....first time I've ever really done anything like that.
Anyway, if you've got a spare four minutes pop by and have a look. I'd like to hear any thoughts or feedback anyone has. If you're interested the song has been posted in the Songwriting forum.
