Re: Set List Philosophy (7 replies, posted in My local band and me)
I perform at rest homes BGD with a group of ladies once a month. We base our set list on songs that 60 - 90 year olds would know and can sing along with. We mix them up and add to the set lists all the time. So we presently have 12 different set lists and can mix and match depending on if we have performed there before or not.
When we go busking on the streets to raise money for children and schools to buy them ukulele`s at Christmas time each year, we have other songs that we add in that we wouldn't perform at the rest homes as they might be to modern for that generation and they wouldn`t know them or they may be not suitable at the rest homes but great for busking.
Once we did a gig for a 50th birthday and sang lots of sing -along and very much dance songs and music.
We have another set list for Christmas time, which is always handy to have for the odd seasonal gig.
So the set lists are pretty much targeted to the audience we are performing for.
(Edited by Jandle to add in - in, sing - along)

Re: Kids Song (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hello Easybeat I thought best way maybe around a kids song is to get a seven year old involved. This song called Brians Banjjo is composed just for you. Your friends down this way know you love Banjo so this is all for you. The Kid was fun to work with descided what she wanted sung, Considering her age I thought it was good. Only trouble we had is because she likes to dance while singing I had to keep putting her back close enough to the microphone to pickup the vocals. So thats why some of the vocals are not that clear.
Sounds like you both had fun in the making of that Peatle

beamer ................. that was very good. Great job on your cover and you have put so much work into it! You said your vocals were flat but actually, that just made it your own and suited your style. The guitar work was awesome, must have taken you ages to learn that! Awesome job! Such great stories and memories everyone ................. really enjoyed reading them and couldn`t help but smile at some of them ......... thanks for sharing
Whilst I have been to quite a few concerts of some amazing oversea`s artist, I never had the privilege of bumping into any. The only 'tiny' claim to fame meeting was with a New Zealand singer/song writer Shona Laing. We went to a winery in Gisborne and she was performing there. Before she came on stage, i thought i would go find the bathroom and whilst i was outside the winery looking for the bathroom, i saw this cute black fluffy little dog, it had really curly hair and so i was calling it and trying to pat it. This older woman who was outside having a cigarette and who obviously owned the dog was looking at me and said it was her dog, so we talked briefly about dogs as I have a dog too. Anyway, with that off i go to get my seat so i can watch the show and on comes Shona Laing and guess who i had been talking to It was Shona but i hadnt recognised her as she had matured a bit by then and the funny thing was that gorgeous little black dog actually was down on the ground by the stage and from time it literally danced/pranced on all fours to the music Shona was singing making the crowd laugh.
Here is link to Shona through her years incase you dont know who she is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHisJ8KyoME

Must admit .......... think most people felt like this Doug ......... the end was a bit of a fizzle really ................now we have to wait another 12 years for the Lions vs All Blacks to play again. Oh well............
On another note ......... well done to the Lions team and the UK .............what excellent support the Lions had come over here, very impressive

Your welcome mojo01 ..... we will look forward to hearing you back playing here
Ok ... my attempt at a Chris Cornell song, called 'Be Yourself'. I did a quick recording this afternoon as once again a busy day. It is definitely nothing like the original but as I can`t possibly imitate him so I made it my version. Think I already mentioned, I actually don`t know his music, but do some of it now. Here is the link to my version.

A great line up for JULY`s FSOTM chosen by two of our Chordie members.
We have HARRY CHAPIN, a wonderful singer/songwriter chosen by beamer and A PIRATE LOOKS AT 40 chosen by Baldguitardude.
HARRY CHAPIN
You can perform ANY SONG you like as long as it is a HARRY CHAPIN SONG. A couple of suggested songs from Harry Chapin that beamer suggested were Sequel, Taxi or Cats in the Cradle but they are just suggestions ... you can pick ANY of his songs.
From Wikipedia: Harry Forster Chapin (December 7, 1942 – July 16, 1981) was an American singer-songwriter best known for his folk rock songs including "Taxi", "W*O*L*D", and the No. 1 hit "Cat's in the Cradle".
Chapin was also a dedicated humanitarian who fought to end world hunger; he was a key participant in the creation of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger in 1977.[1] In 1987, Chapin was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his humanitarian work.

A PIRATE LOOKS AT 40
This song has been chosen by Baldguitardude who was our second winner this month to choose a song for July`s FSOTM. Another great song written by Jimmy Buffett and performed by a few other well known names, Ian McNabb, Jack Johnson, Roger Creager, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez
From Wikipedia: "A Pirate Looks at Forty" is a song written and performed by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was first released on his 1974 album A1A and "Presents to Send You" is the B-side of the single.
Buffett wrote the song about Phillip Clark, at the Chart Room where Buffett first performed after his move to Key West, Florida.[1] The song contains the bittersweet confession of a modern-day, washed-up drug smuggler as he looks back on the first 40 years of his life, expresses lament that his preferred vocation of piracy on the high seas was long gone by the time he was born, and ponders his future.
For radio play, the song was shortened by deleting the fourth verse for the single release. The song is one of Buffett's more popular, and is part of "The Big 8" that he has played at almost all of his concerts, and always during the second set.[2]

Topic: Who has had the opportunity to meet and mingle with famous musicians? (27 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
This crossed my mind today after reading Tig`s comment in the Suggested FSOTM for July and Tig mentioned he had the privilage of meeting Harry Chapin and his brother at a school function. Tig mentioned this because that is one of the artists that has been chosen by beamer for this months July FSOTM.
I thought to myself, now that is pretty cool as I like Harry Chapin`s music and its not something that most people get to do, is to meet famous or well known musicians.
So it got me to thinking, who here has had the pleasure of rubbing shoulders, meeting a famous or well know musican? Who, Where, How did you meet them? Tell us your encounter story
