Ouch!!!!! Schallers are expensive. As looked at all 3 of my guitars I noticed that on the one that needs tuners, the tuners are not attached with a little screw like the other 2. I e-mailed Art & Lutherie to find out what brand of tuners were original. Unless Pix knows what they are. I didn't see any Grover or Gotoh that weren't attached with screws.
Hello to all in Chordie land!!!!
Quick question about tuners. I will need to replace a set on one of my acoustics sooner or later. I have a very cool set on my newer Yamaha that click every so often like they're locking. Anyone know about this and what brands are the same. They are original to my Yamaha but I don't know what brand they are.
I would say that this damage is caused by customers. There are so many people that get there hands on these things that stuff is bound to happen. If it's not theirs, they don't care. At those prices I don't think they would leave the factory that way. Unless they come out as factory blems. This I don't know. I don't imagine that the high-enders fly off the racks, so the longer they are in store the more of a chance to get damaged.
That's my 2 cents anyway.
Welcome Chas!!! Glad to hear that you've picked up the guitar.
I've only been playing for just over 2 years and I still take it slow. I only work on 3 songs at a time until I get them down pat. As you progress you can go back and add stuff to the ones you already know. Whats that rule, don't bite off more than you can chew. Just make sure everything you learn, you learn well. Don't move on until you are good at what you are working on.
Good luck!!
Happy NGD!!!!
So do you have to go with the wife jewelry shopping now? Give and take, ya know.
Someone had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much free time on there hands. Looks like something a prison inmate would build to pass the time.
C'mon guys, you know you want it. Just under $5k and just in time for Christmas.
Hi Chimmy, welcome aboard the Chordie express.
Don't know how long you've been playing, so my first thought is just practice. A few other tips, keep your elbow close to your body and pull with your arm, don't squeeze with your hand. Maybe tip the neck up a little bit so you can get your hand around the neck more. Keep your index finger straight and roll it over a little to the side.
Check out Justin's lesson

Good luck and keep practicing!!!
Welcome to Chordie Donzo!!!!!
I myself do very little fingerpicking. But my advice is that bass note has to be automatic. I'm assuming you're picking the bass with your thumb. Just like when you were starting out strumming and singing. The strum had to be second nature before attempting to sing. Same thing, your thumb just has to do it on it's own so you can concentrate on your other fingers. Just keep at it and you will get it.
I agree with you both. Heart and soul is what makes music. Notes on a page don't bring anything to life. Without talent music would not move us. Reminds me of a couple things....
I think it was a post here, about a music project around the world. Getting diff people to play Stand by Me in their own way. The little old guy from Louisiana I think was awesome. Gandpa Elliott was his name. Old and road worn but had soul coming out of his ears!!

Another is a little song from Alanis Morrisette from her Jagged Little Pill. It's the hidden track, "Your House". No music at all, but man you can feel the heart she puts into this song. Very cool to listen too.
I know how to use the capo to change key and all. But I don't understand the tuning part. The only reason to tune down is to change pitch? I guess that makes sense, to get a diff sound. Can you tune up from standard?
BTW, I don't sing so I have no key. I was just curious when I came across the tuning thing.
Does tuning down change the key the same as using a capo? While looking for a song I found diff chord charts for it. One says drop d and tune down 1/2 step. The other says standard tuning and capo 1st fret. Can you just not tune down if the key doesn't fit your voice?
I'm puzzled.

Justin Sandercoe interviews Steve Vai. Steve is a really cool guy. He knows where he comes from and where he's going. He IS music incarnated as a man. I can't imagine how much stuff this guy knows. Awesome and inspiring to hear him talk about his love of music.
On the same note... What makes people awe at the likes of Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Hoey and other guitar "gods"? All of them shred, and that in itself is amazing. But is it really that hard and that impressive? Is it just so fast and flashy that makes people think they're awesome? I think banjo players are impressive. I don't like that type of music, but those guys rock. One of the most impressive guitar recordings I've heard is Steve Stevens playing Rebel Yell acoustically. It's on the Billy Idol Greatest hits album.
Really good stuff.
I don't know how old this is, may have been around awhile.
I grew up in the 80's listening to loud guitar driven hair bands. I think that's what hooked me. I have always been interested in the guitar, but never did anything about it. About 8 years ago I bought a beginner guitar (Ibanez which I still have) and took a class at the community college I attended. Didn't learn much in the class, nothing applicable to playing anyway. So, fast forward to Sept. of 2008. A friend of mine played, sort of, and offered to buy my guitar when he found out I had one. For whatever reason, I decided then to learn to play. Like Bass said, I wish I would have started when I was younger. It's been 2 years now and I love playing, won't miss more than 2 days a week.
Jeff, do we know how many miles it has traveled thus far?
Would be really cool if it hit every continent on the globe!!!!
Happy NGD!!! For $25 you can't go wrong. Almost any guitar is worth that. Even if you had to sell it right away you could make a few bucks on it. Nice find!!!!
No body taught him how, how how how how
This loud Cuban band.....
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
Good one Russ, fits the holiday.
Sally ,take my hand....
One of my all time fav songs!!
So why are you not satisfied with your progress? If you don't have a plan and don't set goals then how do you gauge yourself? Are your expectations too high at this point? I ask these questions because I have been playing for about 2 years also and I couldn't be happier with what I have learned. I'm actually surprised at my progress. I'm not bragging!!! Just saying that the first few years you should be growing by leaps and bounds. I find myself at a plateau right now, progress is a little slow with barre chords and all. But I know I will get thru it. So maybe you should step back and look at what you have learned and make sure that it is all polished and to the best of your ability. That will make new stuff easier to take on. Then decide on what you want to learn next and start your journey again.
Lessons can be a very useful route to go especially if you need a structure to stick too. I imagine that every instructor is different. All you can do is talk to them and find out how and what they teach.
Good luck
Such a cool idea Jeff!!! The only things that look familiar to me when I had it is the glass slide and the pitch pipe. Everything else looks new. Excluding the picks. Let's keep it goin' fellow strummers.
The Apx500 is a very nice guitar Simon. I got one last year (blue burst) and I love it. Very easy to play and sounds great.
Just keep at it and the pain will turn to pleasure.
Most everything from Amazon ships free if it's over $25. If I have too, I will add something just to make it over the $25 so no shipping.
I agree with the others, save it for a better purchase. If your worried about losing it you can keep it in a uke case for safe keeping.
I love watching shows about the ocean and all it's diversity. Blue Planet was an awesome series on the Discovery channel about the ocean. The subject of ocean exploration always irks me. We spend billions of dollars exploring the empties of space, looking for life that isn't there. Yet, our oceans are right here and we have only seen about 3% of them. And we know that there is lots of life there. On an ocean discovery show I saw, a man said the for the price of launching a space shuttle, he could dive in his submersible twice a day, every day for like 5 years. Hmmmm... let's see, launch a space shuttle once to find nothing or launch a diver 3000 times to find the most wonderful creatures that have ever lived. My money is on the ocean.
This was just too cool not to share!!!!
