This was a beautiful movie. It featured some music from one of my personal guitar heros, Michael Hedges. If you're just starting out on guitar I wouldn't recommend attempting M.Hedges music until you have a few solid years of intense guitar study under your belt. But don't let my suggestion stop you! Here's the official web-site for the movie;

Unfortunately, many sites in the US have been disabled due to litigating copywrite infringement hearings. It's hard out here these days for a musician and all of their puppeteers to earn a living. I see it as an act of desperation. If I were lucky enough to 'hit the jackpot' and have succesful songs on the market I would see it as a tool of promotion for small time local scrub performers,such as myself, to have my music 'promoted' by eager up and comers.

Great story, great article . . . this is excellent exposure.

I gave up playing bass years ago because a left thumb injury (stupid bicycle wreck) made it painful to hold the neck.  Now, I want to find a left-handed bass and see if I can't get my mojo back!

James,
   Here are some choices for you to ponder;

Thank you all for your kind words. It's an honor to have fine people such as you all voicing your encouragement.
Doc,
I'll try to answer a few of your questions. I was in a band at the time of the accident. We were a working band that played a lot of southern rock. It was an extremely hard, difficult time. The transition, both physically amd mentally almost got the best of me on numerous ocasions. But I had no choice other than to re-learn, switch hands, get a little creative with a pick system, and continue pursuing my life's passion.

ps-The article came out in todays' paper. It was the same as the on-line link plus an additional close-up photo of my chording hand. I had wtitten HI MOM (the H and I on one finger, the MOM on the other three) and the photographer(Lara Cerri) captured my mothers day message to my awesome Mom. Happy Mothers Day out there to all the wonderful mothers !!!!.............

Korg tuners are like $15, and they'll do bass and guitar.

Worth the money, and cheap.

I've had the same Korg tuner since 1987. I think a better choice of words would be reliable and inexpensive.................

Have someone take lots of pictures from all different angles, (from the crowd, on stage-front,back,side, each memeber) Video is cool as well but still frames really capture the moment. It's a very special time in a musician's life and based upon the information you share here on Chordie you are indeed a true musician. Best of luck cytania, be sure to post on "let's hear about your gigs".

I sometimes cut picks out of plastic beverage bottles. Milk jugs seem to work the best. Make sure you have some good quality scissors. You can get 15-20 picks from a gallon jug. A little sand paper to smooth down the rough edges and bam, picks galore !

Oh garsh Wayne! Now you're talking my language.
Fire on The Mountain; A and G all the way through. It's originally in B but playing it in A is easier on the acoustic.

Franklins Tower (Roll Away The Dew) A D G D play the D's quickly in between the A and G,

This is a very interesting, yet effective way to write tabs. I've never seen it this way. I have to kinda turn my head to the side but it works. I like the melody of the notes. Not all great songs need lyrics. Jessica, Euoropa, etc. Just a suggestion.............

Thanks for the heads up Danspr. I'll be picking this up today. Jimi is my 2yr old sons favorite guitarist. We'll have some good night-time reading material now. We own Hendrix's Band of Gypsies, Live at the Fillmore East on DVD. Some great live performances and amazing studio engineering talk with Eddie Kramer. (Jimi's original recording engineer for Band of Gypsies) 38 years later people are still scratching their heads in amazement over some of Jimi's recording 'tricks'.................

When I re-string my guitar I'll lift the strings an inch or two from the fretboard to stretch the strings. I lift each string over the sound hole and use more care with the smaller strings. (they break much easier) Each string gets about 30 good tugs/lifts. I'll string my guitar a little sharp of 440 A and immediately begin my stretching process. Works great for me, my guitars rarely go out of tune.

The most frequently requested songs or artists I encounter in my daily job as a working musician are as follows;
Dave Matthews-anything
Buffett-Mostly Marga-barfa-ville, It's 5 O'clock Somewhere
Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison- almost always requested by wide eyed female pointing to their brown eyes.
Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd-many times just 'that guy' trying to be mr. funny man.
Hotel California by The Eagles
Mustang Sally
Electric Slide

There are many, many others but these seem to be staples of the masses who are at the places I play.

Yeah it doesn't look so good when one toots one own horn. Let others speak of your 'greatness'. Just a little tip I picked up along the road of humility.
