I have bought two guitars online. One was an Art & Lutherie, never played one before, but couldn't pass up the deal. It is now my favorite guitar. It is so easy to play. I think I lucked out tho. The second was an AE Yamaha. I tried one at Guitar Center and then found it online cheaper. I agree with Dino. Hands on, then order.

If no one has said it yet, Welcome Shay!!!!
You're actually getting blisters on your tips? Never heard of that. Maybe ease off a little like Ben said. You want tough fingers not injured fingers. It will get better and more fun.

I agree... but being able to think of the song that you know that you can sing and play without thinking... that's another story! LOL!
Nothing flusters you like being put on the spot!!!

Red, yellow, and green. That seems familiar but I can't put my finger on it....:P
I didn't say what I do. I won't move it into my songbook until I can play it without the sheet at all. i don't use Zurf's cool stop light method, but the last requirement is the same. Although I do have a couple songs that I put into the mix even tho I can't play it without glancing at the sheet. Maybe I'll pull those back out and make them pass the test for real this time.

Hi all,
Just a thought I had....
When do you consider that you "know" how to play a song? Is it when you have memorized just the chord structure and can play it well. Or when you have the lyrics and chord structure down pat? Gimme your thoughts.

Pick my jaw up off the floor and sell my guitars 'cuz I feel so incompetent now.
Thanks for sharing Jerry. I love it when I have to confront how bad I really am.

That is an awesome story Ken. I heard that he's already taken a job as a sports broadcaster.
Nice to see that he is on the right path now. I'm sure that the fame will not go to his head this time.

I've said this before.... where do they even get the idea to try something like that and what makes them think they can actually do it. Hmmm, that looks cool maybe I'll try smacking the neck of my guitar and see what sound it makes. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be able to do that. But I think there is a little bit of crazy somewhere in there.
Can they play regular guitar like us mortals do?

Re: Motivation (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Motivation for me is getting the thing down I've been working on. Whether it's a diff chord progression that I'm unfamiliar with, a barre chord, or a nice blues lick. Once I am able to pull it off I look forward to the next thing to tackle.
Just keep at it and set small goals for yourself. You'll get it.

1981? I don't think that is a collectible year for anything. At $1500 you could buy a "real" vintage.
I don't get it......

Awesome story 'Nom!!!!
I think anything from 1956 is a collectible. I don't know if you're thinking of actually restoring it to it's original Gibson state, but I wouldn't. I would get it back to the state it was in as you remember it.
Good luck on your restoration!

Practice is the key. You should be able to strum without thinking about it. Stick with it and you'll get better.

Re: A little scary glimpse into my brain (12 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm with you Zurf!!!! I see decorating as work. In my house, I put up the lights outside (5 strands of icicles and 6 small trees that plug in) and assemble the tree. My wife and son decorate the tree and put up whatever else goes on inside. Tear down is the same. I just can't see spending so much time putting up lots and lots of lights. Two of my neighbors go all out. I just look at it and think about how long it will take to undo all that mess and where do you store it all. For me simpler is better. Although I can't say I feel this way from a childhood experience. Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy.

Topic: Hard or easy? (15 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Merry Christmas to all!!!!
What makes diff guitars harder or easier to play besides setup and string gauge? Reason I ask is, my 3 guitars are on opposite ends of the playability spectrum. My A&L and Yamaha are VERY easy to play. My Ibanez (the one I learned on) is hard to play. It takes effort to fret the strings, my fingers have to be in just the right spot for a clean sound, and I can almost not pull a bar chord. All my guitars were set up by the same guy and have the same strings. So what gives? I'm thinking about getting another Yamaha. I see lots on Craigslist.

Way to go Zurf!!! Portion size and being active are key. Maybe some new clothes will be under the tree for Christmas.
I heard on the news this morning about a new weight loss gimmick. Pregnant women's urine. The hormones are taken out somehow and you get injected by a doctor. With it you must stay on a diet of 500 calories a day. This is why I think the urine is nonsense. If you only eat 500 calories worth of food per day, you're gonna lose weight.

Re: Afraid of heights? (14 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
There are so many things wrong with that guys job!
First of all, nothing that high should ever be designed with anything on top of it that needs repair. Second, he should be issued NASA designed spiderman gloves for climbing and a small parachute. Third, wouldn't a backpack of tools work better than a 30 pond bag swinging below you? Fourth, at the top, "The Tricky Part" as it was called, when he went top unscrew his carabiner, he nonchalantly puts the back of his hand against the pole to steady himself. Fifth, what happens if he drops a tool? Sixth, what in the world is the hardhat for? Can that seriously be an OSHA regulation for that job?
That's what I got out of it. Nerves of steel have to be listed in that job description somewhere. I wonder how many people actually do that job. I think I'll withhold my resume on the grounds that I'm not crazy enough to WANT to do something like that.
WOW!!!!

I think you could end up doing more than 30. Think about all the ones you already know. The ones you've played so many times that you can't forget and the ones that you love to play. That's gotta be 10 or 20.
Good luck with your goal!!!

Hi Door and welcome to Chordie.
I know very little guitar theory, but what I do know is that for finger picking and the blues, the pentatonic scales are a must. Some types of music don't use scales very much but others are based on them. They are a good thing to know.

That's straight form Godin guitars. Wow I thought they would use a quality tuner. So much for that.
I can't find ANY heads that don't require a screw to attach to the headstock. Very weird.
Any ideas?
