Hello My Friends!
I get a magazine called Sound And Vision and last month it touted these CD's, the way they are engineered and how much better they sound than those I would buy from, say, Amazon. They carry a hefty price tag ($25 to $30 dollars, some of them) but what I read intrigued me to the point of coming to my family (Y'all, of course) and asking: Do you own one or more of these and could you review what you have for us?
There is a website which explains their process and they do give you samples to listen to, but unless I missed it, those samples are of music so obscure that one may never have heard of it and there's no way to compare the normal cd to the Hi-Rez ones.
Now, my way of testing these things out is to play Dark Side Of The Moon normally and hi-rez; or LA Woman the same way and then rate the sound. Just giving you a few samples and saying "these are high resolution" just doesn't make my cut.
What say you, my friends?
Thanks
Bill
Hi Amy and thanks!
Our friend Doug was kind enough to link me from YouTube to a site called "Mp3 Minus One" and I took a look at them. Their library is quite extensive, but their fee is $3.95 a week. I haven't checked it out thoroughly, but I am wondering if one pays $3.95 per song or if it's $3.95 for as many songs as one can download in a week's time? The information they have is a little sketchy, so I'll check it out again. I'm pretty sure it's not the latter, however.
There's another one called "Band Minus One" which is shareware and one pays a one time fee ($20.00, IIRC), but the funny thing is, if you select another section, it turns into "One Man Band", another animal entirely. Gotta check that one out a little more as well.
And here's something I found out on my own: If one isn't careful and downloads some of these from CNet whose service is called "downloads dot com" (spelled out so it wouldn't create a link). What happens with them is - they appear first in the list under "ads", and "FREE" in tall letters and what one must watch for is "crapware" such as toolbars, etc., etc. one definitely doesn't want. An example of this crapware is called sweet pack. Once that one gets into your machine it's as hard to get rid of as snot on one's finger. I had it once and I had to jump through all sorts of hoops to erase/delete it.
So I did as Doug instructed and went directly to the product's website (after seeing it on YouTube) and will download from there once I define exactly what it is I need.
I will look forward to hearing from Roger and finding out about the service he uses and maybe with all of us together investigating it, I can find just the right service.
As always, huge thanks for "looking after me" in this and other matters. Dondra says hi and sends hugs times a million.

Hi Bill ...
Here's one that I use from time to time, which is easy to use and quite helpful:
Is this anything like what you were looking for? Or are you looking for something that actually plays the music you have in mind?
Well, that one's a little basic, TF, but it's the right idea.
What I want to do, is write the words, decide on its style (12 bar blues, 4 beat rock, etc), then decide on the chord progression, set the rhythm and let the thing play while I sing. I could then also use it as a "play/sing along" type thing.
What Phill describes above sounds right, too.
Thanks Guys
Bill
In my writing, I've often wanted to use something like that (I used to have that Fender "Band Onboard") amp, but sold it) so that I could keep my hands free and just pre-program the thing and sing to it.
Is there such a thing (preferably free) and where might one find it?
Thanks
Bill
Bwaaah-hahahahah! We did those tests where you have to put those little plastic shapes together, did some word association and just some plain old chat. I should receive some stuff in the mail in a week to see how I did, so maybe I'm not NOTICABLY too batguano, Phill.
That's good news in that the longer I can keep the bats out my belfry, the longer and better I can take care of my lovely Lady Wife.
I'm lucky in that my doc's a good guy, knows that I was in the medical field and doesn't "talk down" to me.
I'm just happy that I now have a little more free time to check out what my friends have been doing on SoundCloud.:)
Your mate
Bill
Hi Phill
Good to hear from you. Dondra is doing great. Walking on her own, driving, etc., etc. It's all on the blog if you would care to take a look.
I myself am at my neuro-psych doc being evaluated to see if I'm any crazier than I was 6 months ago. .
Thanks
Bill
Found you!!! I thought I had been missing your posts, but UJB linked me to the newest work. Commented there and also listened to "Old Friends" again, but I wanted to tell you here that I am having a very difficult time picking a favorite. All your work is great, my friend.!
Bill
I haven't seen him post in quite a while.
Thanks
Bill
Thank you, Pete, Maree and everyone!
Today was the first time she looked into the Fridge and noticed all kind of stuff MISSING and y'all should have heard her yelling!
I could NOT stop smiling and the more I smiled the madder she got. I think I have my Dondra back, my friends!
Always
Bill
Amy,
As I write this, I am watching her off and on and making sure she's getting her "nappy". You need never worry about me making her life too hard on me or the reverse! I just keep working on ways of letting her know how much I love her!!!!
Your Friend ALWAYS
Bill
I just wish I could give all of you one of those friendly "Knocks On The Shoulders" with the right hand fist; pull y'all close just like those the football players do, and smack y'all in the belly just as lightly as possible, in order to let you know how much we both thank you. Unfortunately, I can't - some of you live too far away. But you ARE loved. By both of us and we know to appreciate what you have done for the both of us.
See You Soon (writing/playing and singing)
Bill
Oh heck. I'll just have the great Ben E King play and sing it himself. He could have done a better job than me, anyway......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTd2ylacYNU
That's for y'all by the way......
Your friend always,
Bill
Oh, Jan !
Dondra loves your music and your words and how great it is to see you wishing us well. I'm trying my best to write some more, but you know who takes priority, right?
We both just keep shaking our heads at how much we are loved here and how much our wonderful musicians find to write about.
I will catch up as soon as I can with all our works. Promise.
Your Friend
Bill
As I wrote Doug just a few minutes ago......."Dondra says to say hello to you all....... We got a great report back from the doc: Her blood pressure's under control, she's up cooking and washing dishes and this evening I let her go to her niece's birthday party in the car by herself. I'm sitting here alternately writing you and wringing my hands and gnashing my teeth. She's due home in 20 minutes, no phone calls yet, and I feel like a DAD!!!!!!"......... (This has a few edits from yours truly).
==========================================
Also, she's YELLING at me! Can y'all believe it!!!!! She actually has the strength to give me "what for" when I need it! And I'm loving it!!!! I wanna make mistakes like pouring bleach on her jeans just so I can hear her go at me. Damn! Bill's a "Happy Boy"....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJQOo4k-BBo
Both of us of course thank ALL of you for standing by us (somebody play "Stand By Me"--- just kidding) and sending your love and prayers to us both.
Please, please, please continue with the juju, prayers, good vibrations and thoughts, because we sure can use them.
We send all our love to you, our sweetest friends, from
Bill and Dondra Craig
PS: To our friend TF catching up on The Kinks these days, my friend!
........ but I'm working on some personal stuff right now. One of those is having to go with hard-wiring this machine to do internet and then switching plugs to get wifi, so as soon as I get that fixed, I hope to be around more often.
So please don't give up on me and Dondra sends love and hugs to all of you!
Love you guys and ladies!
Bil
Well, let's just say I'm in negotiations regarding one, TF. Thanks for remembering me!
Bill
I don't know the song myself
That's 'cause you're just a baby. ROFL
Your friend
Bill
Jan
This is wonderfully and righteously performed. (For those who don't know, I only use the word "righteous", if a song makes me have chill bumps listening to it)
We both could not believe when I played it for Dondra and she wants to me to pass along that she's a fan of yours as well as she loves all the rest of the "Chordie Family".
As for me, I sure would like to add some soft brushes on my snare drum if I could add my contribution that way. I know for a fact that we have plenty of guitarists here who (along with you) could sure do that song up right with the respect it deserves.
Great, Jan! Just great!
Your friends
Bill and Dondra
I think you'll be impressed:
I think we're being overrun with it lately, my friends. Some gets stuck in the middle of a thread and some as the beginning.
I am not playing junior mod, please believe me, okay. but when I see it I report it.
Bill
"Well, I saw her today at the reception......" We need a lead and then the rest of us can just do the aaaahhs.
I'm only kidding, but that's a great idea, Jan! Why don't you be in charge of that?
Maybe start with something simple just to practice?
"Ba-Ba-Ba --- Ba-Barbra Ann...... etc.
Yeah, I'd love doing something like that. Nice idea, Jan!
Once I get mine, I promise to put myself "out there", as it were, if I can get my lady wife to hold the phone for me and then see about uploading the vid. Probably won't be very long, but no one's seen me "live" in a while, so I'm up for it and I'd like nothing better than a back to back performance with my friend TF.
Bill
Some very "fresh" and uniquely performed music. (That means I like it, TF). I plan to check out some more of their offerings.
Can't really place them] in the music spectrum anywhere (and why would I need to?), but I think I hear a little bit of David Clayton Thomas in there, and some soft horns probably would be appropriate........
BUT.....it stands on its own just fine.
Thank you my friend for once again pleasantly surprising me!
Bill
Bill, your song got me going back through my old "hook book" to resurrect a song idea I had several years ago which is similar but different. One of the employees where I worked mentioned that a certain supervisor was ruthless. Being a "word guy" I wondered if someone can be ruthless can they also be "ruth"? I looked it up and sure enough its a word that means you have empathy for another or feel remorse for something you've done. So thanks to you awakening an old spark I wrote a new song last night. Think of the rhythm/chord progression used in "Mississippi Squirrel Revival"....... It's an AABCCB rhyme scheme like yours but without a chorus.

And replace "remorse", "pity","grief" or "sorrow"A week went by and to my consternation
I couldn't slip that word into a conversation
I was growing testy and acting like a jerk
My wife asked what was wrong with me
I yelled "shut up and let me be"
Then slammed the door and hurried off to workAt the office I fretted and I stewed
And felt sorry about our little feud
And my angry reply that my wife had heard.
But I felt better as the day wore on
Because I knew when I got home
I'd have my chance to use my new-found word......guitar riff........
I hurried home but was still a little late
Rushed up the walk and slammed the gate
And burst into the house without a warning
Grabbed my wife and said "Babe, I gotta say
That I've been feeling ruth all day

She filed for divorce the next morning
I wish I could keep my rhymes and meter together like that, DE. I get in too big a hurry, maybe?
Great tune!
