That is very possible, Roger but if it is "double insulated" (like in most of today's power tools) it does not require a "ground". With what little knowledge I have on electrial equipment I just don't think a "double insulated" tool was manufactured in the '60's. Toney, maybe you need to check to see if the electrical cord has been replaced prior to your purchase.

And another thing - NEVER pay the asking price on anything. These music stores all have room to lower their price if they want too. Learn to negotiate a better price. Remember it doesn't cost you anything to ask - "what's the best price you'll make me for cash money?"

Check out the chord at the guitar and the amp. Kinda sounds like the grounding has come loose from one of the male plugs. Unscrew one end and check the connection. If thats not it check the other end. Or just try another chord.

Nela

Yeah, Russell, I can share your grief. I once thought I had made a mistake, too.

Nela

Russell, That was Waylon Jenning and not Merle Haggard that missed the Buddy Holly filght.

Another great - Patsy Cline.

Went to our regular Friday nite music session just to listen. One of the better pickers / somgers was there and for a change he was not playing his Martin.
While they were taking a break I got a chance to ask him where his Martin was and what was he playing. He had just went and bought a new acoustic amp and while there he saw a used ARIE electric / acoustic for $75.00 and bought it. After installing new strings and a little set-up work he said the sound was equal to his $1000.00 Martin and even easier to play. I admit the guitar did sound awesome. This just goes to show that the "Top of the Line" doesn't always mean it's the best.

A song, any song, has many aspects to it from vocals, melody, rythem and lyrics. Everything has to go together in order to make a song complete. If you had to pick one aspect of a song that really defines it what would it be?

The beat?
The harmony?
The vocals?
The story?
The lead?
The rythem?
Other comments?

I won't have to listen to my wife say "I wish you would put that away for a while" any more. I won't have to buy CD's just to learn a song, anymore. I won't have to try to print out the sheet music any more, never have to transpose the song into  playable chords any more. Won't have to worry about the hot groupies chasing after me any.......Wait just a d**m minute - I'm gonna keep playing!!!!!

So, when I was 12 I was shining shoes in a barber shop. When I was 14 I was working summers in a hay field. With summer coming on there's always yards to mow. How 'bout carrying out the trash for Mama? How 'bout washing the car for Dad. Or a neighbor.  Little things like cleaning up your room could bring in a buck or 2. If you want to earn some money there are always ways to do so. If you wanna wait for someone to give you something be prepared to wait for quite awhile. Always remember - It ain't worth it if you don't earn it!

Vhagopian, based on my experience it will just take time and a whole lotta practice. I started a little over 2 years ago and I know how frustrating it can be too want to see improvement and not see it. BUT if you continue with putting in the time to practice you'll wake up one day and it will all begin to come together. Its a slow process but worth every minute. Even a little baby has gotta learn to crawl before it can walk. Take your time and learn slow as you will retain that information better. Find a good teacher to help you with the basics, keep you from learning any bad habits and bring you along as your ability allows. And KEEP PRACTICING.

To me, strumming is just keeping time with the music. If your foot can tap to the rythem why can't your hand strum the guitar strings. I keep a limber pick on the console of my truck and as I drive I use the pick "strum" across my chest while listening to CD's or the radio. You don't need a guitar to practice struming. And when you get home you are ready to pick up the guitar strum.

As you listen keep in mind the strum patterns are all based on "1's" and "&'s". The "numbers" will always be "down" and the "&" will always be "up".

Anyway it works for me.

Chord sounds, hmmmmmmmmm.

I like the sound of an open "C" played after a "G7" chord.

I like the sound of an open "D" played after a "A7" chord.

I like the combination sound of an open "C" to a "C7" followed by a full barre "F" chord.

Or a open "D" to a "D7" followed by an open "G" chord.

So I'm kinda partial to 7th chords.
