You make a good point Russ. Everyone gets in an uproar about a certain thing but the end result is that it doesn't change. If there are so many people against the tax cuts for the wealthy then why can't we make the change happen? This is a democracy and majority rules right? Can't wrap my head around how this continues to happen.

The government we allow, and have been for God knows how long, always stand on fixing the same issues. Every election we hear about healthcare, the national debt, etc... In 4 or 8 years nothing gets fixed. That's a long time to get nothing done. Even if steps in the right direction were being made, that would at least be something. I guess things like these are why I stay out of politics and don't vote.

So I wouldn't vote for Bernie even tho he sounds great.

I'd rather watch the royal wedding:(

Go Bernie!!! Tell it like it is.

I think simpler is better. Cut away or not, doesn't matter to me. I do prefer closed tuners. There are some shapes of guitars that I don't care for. I own an A/E so I can't say that I don't like electronics. I like the satin finish also. I don't really care for the fancy inlays, binding, and pick guards. I think guitars look better plain.

It's been all over the radio and everywhere on tv. I didn't watch it, but really you can't get away from it. I did see parts of it on the news this morning. I can't get over the hats the women were wearing. Looked like a bad Bjork concert.

Nice job Zurf!!! Even with all that string pressure running over it, it still moved huh, go figure.

Ok, so what happens when you want to fingerpick with lots of barre chords?

If you give your daughter the 01 are you "really" giving it to her? I mean it's not like you can't play it whenever you want right? Don't sell the Rickenbacker!!!! That is a classic and you should be ashamed of yourself for thinking of getting rid of it.  Can I have it? Since you're being so generous and all.

So they sent you the baby instead of the mini or did you get both?

Well said Zurf!!! I only enjoy that white stuff with colored syrup on it and in a paper cone!!

Wow Tommy Emmanuel was awesome. He was all over the place in that vid. Good stuff!!

Pete, you can play like Andreas. It said so right in the info under the vid. "LEARN TO PLAY LIKE THIS AND MANY OTHER STYLES FROM BASIC TO ADVANCED THROUGH VIDEO EXCHANGE LESSONS WITH ANDREAS".  I'm thinking not.

I agree with Zurf and Pete. I like the story songs. The music gets me interested then I feel the lyrics.

Never heard of Shawn Lane, but watched the vid. Did you guys see the little tail and eyes on his left hand. You have to look really close, but I would swear it was a small four legged alien disguised as his left hand. It was using it's legs to walk up and down the fretboard. Don't know how he trained it to do that but job well done.

Came across this website today.

http://www.stoneworkspicks.com/index.php

Quite interesting, I would have to try one to be convinced. It just doesn't seem like it would work. I have a couple wood picks and a stainless steel one. I don't actually play with them tho. I pull them out every once in a while just to see what they sound like. I guess the stone works, they make and sell them, but they're so thick. It would be cool to have one but I wouldn't play with it.

Sounds like good times Amy. Does that inspire you to play more so you can show the youngsters a thing or two?

If I was a teenager I think it would be cool to have a jam session like that with a parent.

Welcome John!!

You didn't mention how long you've been playing. As the others said, practice is key. You must take it slow so you do it right. If you just blast thru it you will not learn the right way. Slow repetition builds muscle memory.

Good luck!!!!!

I'm not on the Zepplin bus. Yes they have their place in history as a great rock band, but for me they're just ok.

I agree with the giving credit thing. If you're using someone else's stuff then fess up and give them props. Most of those listed on that page were well known anyway so it's not like they were robbed.

So there you have it, it all goes back to the blues!!!!!!

How long are you practicing for? If it's a short time, then yeas something needs adjustment. If it's a long time, then practice less and see if that helps.

Hey Deadstring, you've got an FG-750S from the mid-70's?

1973 I think.Maybe 1 or 2 years later.

I just picked up a FG730s earlier this year. I'm pretty sure it's a 2007 model QNN110026. Has Yamaha been making this model line for that long?

Welcome Steelstrings!!!

Country is not my bag at all. But if involves a guitar, I'm down.

I don't own anything expensive. $300 new is the highest. But my fav is an ebay find. $78 (including shipping) Art & Lutherie. It just plays so easy. I'm in the process of refinishing it. It's not beat up or anything, I just didn't like the color & finish. It does have a small hole in the side of the upper bout and 1 in the back. Some idiot drilled them for a strap pin. If I could only keep one of my guitars it would be this one.

Welcome NYKG!!!! You'll find Chordie full of helpful info.

As far as sheet music goes, I think most people (I could be wrong) use a chord/song sheet like you find here on Chordie. These are what I use. Tabs are also a popular version. For quick and easy learning I don't see actual sheet music serving well. Especially if you don't know how to read it.

I don't finger pick so this is just my advice. Since you've only been playing for a couple months, I would recommend you stick to strumming songs for a little while. I think it would be a good foundation for rhythm, timing, and just basic motor skills. With picking, your hand are all over the place, so if you learn lots of chords you should have better control of your fingers and which ones and where to place them.

Lessons are only as good as the material being taught. Theory and such are definetly good things to learn, but they don't get you any hand time with your guitar. You need to ask yourself if the cost of the lesson outweighs the benefit. Personally, I don't think 2 lessons per month is enough. It should be at least once a week. Being left to you own devices for too long between lessons you could develop bad habits or be learning something wrong.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Good luck!!!!!!

Did you load up your laptop? You're supposed to take it so you can work in your new mobile office right?

It's not cheating. There is no right way to play a song. Just different. Yes the original is what you fell in love with, but if that doesn't fit your voice, then you have to change it. In the end, as long as you're comfortable with it and can say "Yes, I can play that song" then you're good. No such thing as cheating when it comes to playing the guitar.

Glad you found a version that will work for you!

Cmon Amy, buckle down and learn this thing. The only chord that looks odd is the C7. Everything else should be easy enough for you. It will take some time but you can do it. Or get into it a little bit at a time, then when you do decide to go for it you will some of it down already. Have your dad help you out too.

You can do it.
