I live a half hour from the Fender museum and plant in Corona, Ca. I've always wanted to go but haven't. Gotta get that done.

Amy, nothing looked like it was locked up. Because of the language barrier I couldn't really ask them anything. The place was tiny. The size of a small mall shop. It was just me and my son that sorta walked thru the place.

Topic: Concert (2 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Went to a concert this past Saturday night. We went to see Dokken, an 80's hair band. They are one of the bands on an unofficial bucket list that a friend of mine and I have. A couple observations I had...
There were lots of older people there. I'm 35 so by older I mean mid 40's and up. Was kinda strange. It just wasn't what you would expect to see at a concert like that. There were some metal heads there but not alot. Have older people always been there and I'm just now noticing? Is it because I'm getting older that I noticed?
I have noticed that now I watch the musicians and what they're doing on there instruments. From more of a players perspective than a drunken fool perspective. I watch what their hands and fingers are doing.
Anyhoo, we rocked out and had fun. That was our goal.

Hi All!!!!
Don't know why I hadn't posted this pic before. It is from my trip to Japan in Sept. 2010. It was taken in a mall guitar shop. I wanted to take more, but this one is all I could get before they stopped me. Funny, half way around the world and things look the same as they do here. Except for the writing!!!!! For anyone interested, the quilted black one, 99,800 yen, at that time would have been about $1185.

Welcome to Chordie David!!!!!
Let' see:
G 2 3&4& .........would be a G chord played
D D DUDU (D is down, U is up) and is counted
1 2 3&4&
When counting, numbers are down strums and &'s are up strums.
That's as plain as I can explain it. Hope it helps.

Re: String Buzz (3 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Nice job Roger!!! My repair guy uses CA(cyanoacrylate, aka superglue) to build the grooves back up then files them to where they should be. I've heard this is a pretty popular trick.
BTW, how did you take that pic? I've tried to get a close up of my frets but to no avail. I have a decent camera but.....

Re: Very very new beginner, 15 years old, PLEASE HELP! (11 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Welcome Joan!!!!!! Let's see if I can shed some light.
Guitars are made from lots of different woods. I wouldn't say there are any "best" types of woods only standard woods that are used today because of their sound qualities. Spruce, Maple, Rosewood, etc.. It's all a matter of taste.
For best acoustic, electric, or basses again there is no hands down "best". Whatever sounds and feels good to you is what you should play. Lots of us play lower end guitars that we absolutely love. Some like the expensive Martins, Taylors, etc...
Lots of Major brands too. If you look at Guitar Center, Musicians Friend, etc. you will see lots of brand names represented.
It sounds like you have a good head about you as you're excited and patient. Good luck on your guitar journey!!!! And remember, at one point we were all in your shoes so we understand what is going on.

Hey everyone!!!!
Opened up a really neat book today at lunch. Acoustic Guitar: The Illustrated Encyclopedia. I only got maybe 10 pages into it but it's very cool. Tells all about the history of diff brands of guitars. I told my wife she can get it for me next time she's looking for a present.

If you decide on grillin some burgers make them sliders then put them on King's Hawaiian Rolls and fry an egg to put on top. The rolls are the kicker. I use them instead of bread for almost everything!!!

A necessary tool, I have one, but have never used it. How many of us really need to use one tho? Most of us play songs that we know and love. Since we are so familiar with these songs you would think that we could keep time.

I'm with Pete and Norm on this one. Decent beginner I think. I can play some stuff but still make mistakes. I am giving guitar lessons so I kinda know what's going on.
Naolslager, as long as you're improving and having fun that's all that matters.
Remember, no matter how good you get there is always someone better.

Hey all!!!!!
What EXACTLY goes on at a jam session? When a handful of you get together around the campfire how does that work? I've only gotten together with one other person at a time and we never really jam. We show each other what we know or have recently learned but that's about it.

Hi all!!!!
Been looking for the classic blues riff that everyone knows. It's used in lots of blues songs. I think I came up with too much stuff and can't really figure it out. Best example is in Hoochie Coochie Man by Muddy Waters. The main riff du dun na du dunt. Hope that makes sense. I sorta came up with this but doesn't sound quite right on the acoustic.

I liked the Fog. Back then that was a good scary movie. The Chuckie movies to me are cheesy. The Leprechaun movie(s)? are bad also. Candyman, Friday the 13th(the last 3 or 4 are bad), can't think of anymore right now.

I would have said "play music" but pressing a button on a cd or mp3 player does not make you a musician.

Re: I need HELP!!!!!!!!! (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I agree with Amy, pick each string individually and then adjust to make sure you're getting a clean sound. Another bit of advice which is very important, practice perfectly. Don't move on to new things until you've accomplished what you're working on. It will only hurt you in the long run. It is hard to unlearn something and break bad habits. Practice is only worth while if it is good practice. So don't take on too much, go slow, and master it before moving on.

Re: MY FINGERS HURT! (36 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Maybe practice a little less each day. In the beginning you don't want to tear up our fingers so bad that you can't practice each day. We all get a chuckle out of threads like these because we have all been there.
Good luck and keep it up.

Yes Yngwie is considered a god. Rightly so, he can fo some crazy stuff with a guitar. Baldy, he has done some good stuff. I'm not really "in" to him but I have heard some of his playing that is quite symphonic (if that's a word).

When did Country go electric? I always thought it was just a guy with a piece of straw in his mouth, cowboy hat, plaid shirt, and a banjo.
Here's some new country for ya. It's a few years old but doesn't sound like any country I've heard before, except for that twang in his voice.
