A couple of years ago a fine band of the 80's, The Alarm, put out a single. They realised that since they were all in their 40's it had not much chance of making an impact on the charts, so they hired a bunch of young good looking fellows to stand in for them in the video. Needless to say the single reached to top 30 singles chart (UK). After they revealed who they were, the music press realised they had been beat at their own game and duly got stuck into them. Not before The Alarm had made them all look like the phonies they are. The song was called 45RPM.
Proves a point I think.

Ken, I got a Yamaha APX500 for under 200 notes from Merchant City Music in Garth Street in Glasgow. A fantastic electro-acoustic which I believe has come down in price since then. Also a fantastic little shop with a good range and all guitars are well set up.

Good news, Ken. Me and my darling wife will both be there. You sure you can afford 2 drinks?

Pity they didny have chordie T shirts. We'd be easy to spot. I'll need to wear a pink carnation.

Good grief! Do they teach that stuff in school down there? Well done. Gold star.

Competative eating! Now there's the game for me.

In cricket they break for lunch. In competative eating do they break for cricket? Bummer!

Never mind next year, motomad, get yersel up here on September 8th. The Alarm are playing Glasgow!

Yeah!
I have to admit to being totally intrigued whenever I watch hurling on TV. It's on Setanta Sports quite a lot. It always looks like a wild game. Must be the Irish in me coming out!

Jings! And no mention of snot or poo. Much respect! She is truly wise beyond her years.

I only wish I could get my 10 year old daughter to pick up the guitar she begged us to get her.

You have to appreciate that "soccer" is a VERY skillful game. If you've ever tried it you'll know. As with most sports it's the appreciation of these skills which makes it worth watching. It's also a lot to do with the spectators. The chanting, the banter, the atmosphere.

As for the most boring sport.....................cross country skiing!

What's that all about?

And don't get me started on golf!!!!

I love my electro-acoustic. I just adore the acoustic sound but every now and then I get the need to crank everything up and get some good loud distortion going. Best of both worlds.

You guys are the inspiration I need. After a wee browse of the songbooks I have collected a few songs which are a new challenge to me. Flatpicking and a few unfamiliar chords. Let's get going!
Cheers guys.

I once did a country version of Motorhead's Ace of Spades. It really fits it well. smile

Why are there some days I can barely bring myself to pick up my guitar cos I'll just play the same old stuff and it'll sound just as duff as always? Today is one of those days. Think I need to turn on the radio and see what grabs me.

And football - that's REAL football, not some American or Australian incarnation - is THE BEAUTIFUL GAME.

I once met a gorilla who said that if she ever caught up with the animal that left her with 2 of the ugliest twin gorillas she had ever seen, she would snap him like a twig!

It's not the praising the Lord that sucks, good grief no! but if you don't like the music then what can you do?

I have to agree that sometimes in church the music is not too my taste but I'm there to praise and it makes it ok. This is very complicated.

But if sitting in the house, and wanting to listen to music, I listen to what I like - obviously, and a lot of contemporary Christian music I would choose not to listen to.

Does this make me a hypocrite? Maybe. Very confusing. I'm off to lie down.

Hey guys, I feel genuinely lucky in that I decend from both Scots and Irish lines. Scots of the West Highlands from my paternal Grandmother and Irish from my paternal Grandfather. Unfortunalely Gaelic died out in my family with my Great Grandfather and even more unfortunately it has now become a minority language in Scotland. However, just like Ireland the accents and dialects can change dramatically within only 30 miles or so. Don't you just love it!

By the way, Kilty, I was up your way the other day. Nice. I hope you never got food poisoning from the dodgy take-a-way.

Also tryt tuning down a full tone. This makes it easier to fret the strings.

Has anyone heard from Upyerkilt recently? There has been a heavy dose of food poisoning going around Balloch (his home town) from some dodgy take-a-way restaurant.

Ken, are ye awright man!

I find it easier if I twist my hand round slightly towards the nut, tucking my elbow in towards my body a bit.

Don't let this get you down (easier said than done i know). You WILL get there. Took me YEARS to get a decent sounding barre chord. I'm still not really happy with my A shaped barres. But I'll get there. As you will if you keep at it.

Hey, Last Rebel, i'll just add an amen to your amen. Brother! lol

And Zurf, check out here -  http://radioy.com/index.php?option=cont … ;Itemid=31

there is an option to listen to either hip hop and r & b, or ROCK. I'd go for the rock cos the other is just plain smelly. I've found a few good bands and tunes on here but as you say there is a lot of gut churning poop out there.

This topic keeps coming up - Martin or Gibson?

For me, neither. Quite simply because I cannot and will never afford either. I tried out a few brands when I was shopping around for my current baby and have said before that the difference between even individual guitars of the same brand was frightening. I ended up buying a Yamaha APX500 , which I love. Sounds fantastic either on it's own or through an amp. It has a lovely action and is a joy to play. The built in tuner is a brilliant feature. A fantastic buy at 200 quid (sterling). My daughter has an Ibanez Tallman which cost about the same but I find it doesn't sound as good or play as well with a slightly higher action. Both look amazing!

At the present time I wouldn't change my Yamaha for anything. I love it. A fantastic guitar.
