Thank you! When I went to the music store, I was surprised to learn about the 3/4 guitars and folk acoustics(?) that, to my untrained eye, looked like ukulele. I ended up with the uke but if I stick with it and can get proficient, then I may try one of those smaller guitars. Who knows! smile

Yup. you can post lyrics (we call 'em "poems" without music in Poetry), Poems with music (scores or chords) in Songwriting, and your recordings/links to vids (for comments or "bragging rights") in My Local Band & Me.  Wander around a bit and you will become familiar with the general contents of all the sections, but if you should misplace one.... we are awfully forgiving and the Moderator for the section will likely move it to the more appropriate section and let you know why.

The only thing that we are particularly picky about is that songs posted in the Forums should be "original" work, and that commercial (as in selling something) links are Verboten.  We try to enforce copyrights as much as possible, and by publishing your own stuff here on Chordie, you actually give provenance to your ownership of your composition(s) should need arise to support yourself against infringement.  Videos and recordings of "covers" are OK as long as the original composer or artist is mentioned.

Hi All, my name is Kim Noble and I am a hobby singer-songwriter who has a (very!) small bit of experience collaborating and recording online with music.  I just purchased a ukulele (after failing many other instruments) and that's why I am on this forum

I wanted to offer any help (as time allows) if you needed a vocalist and/or lyrics for your hobby recordings and/or lyrics.  I am most comfortable singing my own lyrics and creating my own melody lines.  I sing most genres (maybe not death punk metal smile but most other genres). 

I am not skilled (which is why I tend to shy away from preset melody liines--I have a very faulty ear) and my lyrics are simple but feel free to check out my signature page where it has a sampling of what I do both on SoundCloud and Youtube and if I can help---please feel free to contact me!

You're in the right place!  Welcome to the Chordie forums, Kim! There's not a lot of gals around here, but don't let that stop you (I don't!).  Jump right in and check out some posts and start commenting away!  The chordie forum members are some of the most kind people you'll meet anywhere.

A lot of the folks here play Uke, not just guitar.  That's something I'd like to try at some point, but with three people in the house that currently play guitar it can get expensive at times thinking about adding another new instrument!  smile  Do you play tenor or baritone?  As others suggested, we love to share and hear in here!

Howdy!! Love to see other gals around--for sure!! I was just talking about the UkeLadies out of Portland!! I do a bit of hobby collaborating online and I'm finding a lot of male centric---nothing wrong with that, of course--however, it's nice to chat with a gal every now and then! Thank you for the warm welcome--I always look up to guitarists because that is my biggest failure yet! I tried and tried and tried and just could not get through chord changes.... however, I find the ukulele to be much more forgiving for my small hands and slow brain.  I am a mom of 3 so I definitely understand "expense" as well.  I have 2 classically trained pianist in the house and between lessons and tuning---everything else gets put on the back shelf!! smile  Thanks for the warm welcome! smile

Hi Roger--thank you so much for the welcome! I read a quote a few days ago that the ukulele is the only instrument that makes people smile before it even gets played.  I LOVED that quote--hahaaha!! The guy who sold me my Luna Ukulele is in a jam band--and was TERRIFIC!  I look forward to hearing more.  I've also checked out the UkeLadies out of Portland--they are GREAT.  Uke jam bands rock!! smile

I just thought I'd introduce myself--I hope this is appropriate! My name is Kim and I'm a hobby singer--songwriter who miserably failed at trying to self-teach every instrument, including guitar! I really really really needed accompaniment because my goal is to sing live acoustic sets both in the States and in Germany. My first trip to Germany yielded some small music opportunities and I plan to go back in the summer to continue pursuing live acoustic singing gigs.

Well, it was suggested that because I have small, child-like hands that maybe a ukulele would be a good try. Plus, it's more forgiving than other instruments. I definitely needed "forgiving!" 

So, about 5 days ago, I purchased my first ukulele and have already played and video recorded my first cover song, You Are My Sunshine AND two original songs (one silly; one serious), The Emoticon Song and Fall Down.  To say that I'm addicted is an understatement!  smile smile  I haven't been able to put it down. I'm a wimp so my fingers hurt but I don't care!

Anyway--sorry to gush but I'm a Ukulele Convert and am looking forward to spreading the good news of ukuleles as far as I can!!  If anyone knows of any face-to-face communities and/or online communities from Germany (Aachen area) and/or Connecticut--East Coast, would love to join them!
