I'm trying to get a mate with a better voice to give it a go. I can't hold a note in a cup.

On soundcloud I tend to follow people but on chordie the title will get me to click. A link to an MP3 is more likely to get me to follow as well.

I did a recording of how I hear it. Not sure about the heart beat in it.

Hi Brian,
I still can't get that "Life of Reilly" out of my head. It gives me a chuckle every time I hear it

Thank guys for the comments. There are 4 of us in Wellington who all write and bounce Ideas around. I sent them an email suggesting the title and suggested that we each have a shot at writing a song with the same title. This was my version.  I am still trying to get my head around how to do a clean change of key as I am starting to see a pattern developing in my writing and I want to try to keep it fresh.

I have a friend who has a far better voice than me and we are going to record the songs again.

hi beestie, very funny song, it made me laugh, i hope that was what it was meant to do? i listened to your recording before reading the words, then i played it on the guitar and found if you jiggle the chords around a bit, it turns into a bit of heavy metal....maybe not what you planned?  nice one , keep them coming.

I would love to hear a heavy Metal version. It still sounds like a bit of a "jingle" for an advert to me the way I play it.

Great song. I wouldn't worry about your voice it sounded great to me. My grandfather spent his last years with Alzheimers. It's a shame that those are my only memories of him as I was too young to remember much about him before he got sick.

Sorry about my scratchy voice, I'm still getting over a cold.
This is my latest attempt.

Don’t sweat the Small Stuff
[C] [F] [G7]
Verse 1
[C] Your running late, the car’s running rough
[F] Does it really matter, don’t sweat the small stuff
[C] Can’t pay the bills and times are tough
[F] Nobodies died, [G] don’t sweat the small stuff
Chorus
[E7] Life can throw up problems [A7] as we go from day to day
[D7] No amount of worry will make them go [G7] away

Verse 2
[C] You lost your job and no one cares, [F] nobody gives a stuff
[G] Remember that life’s still good, [C] don’t sweat the small stuff
[C] Someone out there loves you, [F] people really care
[G] Even though you’re struggling, [C] help is still out there
Verse 3
[C] Life can throw up problems as [F] we go from day to day
[G] No amount of worry will make them go [C] away
[C] The problems that you had last year are [F] not the same today
[G7] Time changes things and they get fixed as we go along our [C] way

My fingerpicking is not very good so I was tossing up between just a single strum or something more complicated.

Love's Lost

Intro: [Em7]  [A7]  [Am6]  [G]

[Em7] I wonder where things went wrong, [A7] you really used to care
[Am6] It’s hard to love a person who is [G] hardly ever there
[Em7] We’d lie awake and cuddle and [A7] kiss all though the night
[Am6] Now we can’t be bothered; [G] we hardly even fight

Instrumental: [Em7]  [A7]  [Am6]  [G]

[Em7] I wonder where things went wrong
[A7] Is it something that I said?
[Am6] We hardly talk and barely kiss and [G] never share a bed
[Em7] Twenty years have passed so fast
And [A7] things are not the same
[Am6] The only thing we seem to share now [G] is the same last name

[B7] I try to make you love me, [Em] by finding things to share
[B7] But every time I try, [Em] you just don’t seem to care
[B7] I think I see the spark of love, [Em] I think that’s what I see
[B7] If only you would do something to [Em] prove your love for me

[Em7] I know I still have feelings, [A7] I hope you know I care
[Am6] I wonder why I bother, [G] you're hardy ever there.

This song was written after talking to a friend about his daughter, who is unemployed and not looking too hard for work.

Pajama Girl
Verse 1
[A] She’s on the couch eating chips, TV remote in hand
[D] She looks at me with bloodshot eyes
[A] It’s more than I can stand
[E] There must be something she could do
[D] She never leaves the house
[A] She sleeps till lunch and then gets up, and all she does is grouse

Chorus
[A] Pajama girl. . . [D] Pajama girl . . . [A] Pajama girl . . .
[E] Pajama girl, [D] Pajama girl, [A] Pajama girl

Verse 2
[A] Work is just a dirty word and she would rather linger
[D] Her room's a mess, and there's nothing's done
[A] She’ll never lift a finger
[E] Someone out there wants her, but we will never see
[A] All day long she stays at home and watches that TV

Chorus
[A] Pajama girl . . . [D] Pajama girl . . . [A] Pajama girl . . .
[E] Pajama girl, [D] Pajama girl, [A] Pajama girl

I wrote this after talking to a girl that I know. She commented on how much hotter her friends were than she was. It took me a while to realize she was serious and not just fishing for compliments.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

[C] [C7] [F] G7]

[C] She's frowning in the mirror and I [C7] wonder what she sees
[F] She turns, I see a goddess looking back at [G7] me
[C] Blonde hair and [C7] eyes of blue as [F] pretty as can be
[Dm] Why can't she see the things, the same things that I [G7] see.

[C] [C7] [F] G7]

[F] My bums too big, my hairs a mess is what she will tell [G7] me
[F] I've always found her bum to be as perfect as can [G7] be
[F] My boobs too small and I'm too fat, it's all bad news you [G7] see
[F] Is she for real, what does she mean, she's beautiful to [G7] me

[C] [C7] [F] G7]

[C] Heads turn as we walk along, [C7] they see the same as me
[F] In the mirror, she looks down, I wonder what she [G7] sees
[C] She wishes she was taller, with a [C7] waist as thin as that
[F] I look at that flat belly, there's not an ounce of [G7]
[C] I tell her that she's beautiful, but [C7] she can't believe me
[F] When she looks in to the mirror I wonder what she [C] sees.

Winston Churchill referred to his depression as the Black Dog.

The Black Dog

Intro [Am] [E7] [Dm] [E7]

[F] The  [Am] black dog he comes visiting most [E7] mornings at two
[Dm] I lie in bed wondering [E7] just what I should do
[F] The hurtful comment, without thought is [E7] playing on my mind
[Dm] Though it was never meant [E7] to sound so unkind

[Am] [E7] [Dm] [E7]

[Am] I lay in my bed with ideas [E7] running through my head
[Dm] I know that in the morning that my [Am] dreams will all be dead
[F] I think of times when life was fun [Am] of walking on the beach
[Dm] loves lost and chances missed, [E7] now all out of reach
[Dm] Another grey day, just more the same [Am] the black dog he has come
[Dm] He hunts me down, jumps on me and takes out all the [E7] fun

[Dm] I am getting older and {Am] losing the fight
[E7] I need some help, a kind word to help me though the [Am] night.

Feel free to comment, I'm not too happy with "takes out all the fun"
Cheers Steve
