I have always owned spruce/rosewood guitars for many years. About 5 years ago I bought a spruce/mahogany guitar. As it turned out the Spruce/Mahogany is my go to guitar. I just like the overall sound. I still love the sound of my other guitars. They are just a different sound. Now add the string choices you can make you have a real variety of tones available to you. Very interesting but sometimes perplexing. I seemed to stay with the same brand and gauge string on all my guitars, none of them sound alike. Different tones from each because of woods and bracings. Yes ,construction is as important as tone woods. So many variables, so much fun.

Just had my 1999 Martin D-35 refretted . I had some bad fret gouges . Now it plays like new . I can't believe how much better it sounds. We have to keep our toys in tip - top shape.

I know this was a problem years ago. I didn't know it was resurfacing. I have been doing a few gigs for a guy who won't advertise. He has had this problem in the past and is trying to avoid it. I like Beamers idea of all original music. Only problem there is most people want to hear covers. It's hard to get people to accept new music. Even the Rolling Stones can't play new material without complaints.

Happy New Year to all of the Chordie Family.  I played a gig last night. Getting home at 2 am I find at my age it's good it only happens once a year.

Zurf, WOW. Lots of good info there.
I've been playing guitar for almost 50 years. I hosted an open mic for two years and at the end of the night whoever stuck around got up for a jam . With so many guitar players I decide to get a Bass guitar and a Bass Amp. That's when I learned how to play Bass. With some help from a friend who played and my own stumbling thru it is how I got started. I loved being thrown into a jam and playing by the seat of my pants. I love playing Bass now. And I put it into a lot of my own recordings.
I'm just a 4 string guy , that's plenty for me. I have an Ibanez TR series Bass. It's neck is slimmer than the Fenders and I love it. I'll never get rid of it. A friend got a Gretsch short scale and it didn't sound very good to either of us. So I would recommend staying away from the short scale Basses.
I don't sing much while playing bass but I have done it. For me it's much easier to singalong with a guitar. But don't let it stop you. Everyone is different and it might work well for you.
If you have interest and determination I say go for it.

I'm 50/50 on sunburst. I like the colors on the Gibsons, Taylors and the new sunburst Martins. Not so much on the others. And I only like the vintage sunburst. Not the cherry or honey sunbursts. To each his own I guess.

Happy NGD.  I was listening to a couple playing music one night. They both had Squire Strats going thru Marshall amps. I didn't know they were Squires until I asked. I thought they were highend Strats. The guy told me it was the Marshall that made them sound so good. They sounded Amazing. I know you'll love this one.

Or maybe to give up his spot in the Crow's Nest.  Like your Idea. Might be a good song title. Guitars for Bananas and Chicks for Free.

I understand the issue. I play mostly acoustic sitting down at gigs. I have a Taylor T5 that's about the same thickness as your Gibson. It's great if you stand but day and night feel when sitting down. I tried a Gretsch 6120 and being a little deeper body was much easier to play while sitting . More acoustic feeling. I think the Emperor would give you a better feel you might be looking for as the body is a little deeper.. Just my opinion. Try all your options and you will discover which feels best for you. Enjoy the journey to your new friend. Let us know which you decide on.

About a month ago I read an article in which he said he was ready to go. I didn't realize he meant this soon. Great songwriter.  RIP Leonard.

Cool. Good song choices, people always like songs they know or Blues tunes. Can't go wrong with those. I remember my first open mics. I was pretty nervous but still had lots if fun. It's always a good place to get started. I still like to play a few, But nervousness is gone. I've played so many shows in the last 22 years the jitters are gone and it's pure fun. Hope this is a bit of encouragement for all the people who are thinking about playing at open mics. Thanks for sharing.

Bill, very interesting video. Lots of good info for players to take to heart. The thing I like about music is that we can all have a different approach to how we want to play a certain song. Six people can play a song six different ways. It gives us six versions of the same song. It keeps things from getting boring. The thing we all need to bring to a song is passion. Makes no difference how good you are ,the passion will shine thru. It will also drive you to become better. Looks like Tommy has had the passion a long time.
Thanks for sharing.

Great song. I liked the way you played it and the lyrics fit together real nice. I just wrote two new ones. first one just rolled out, the second is hung up on the chorus. I'm going to let it soak for a week or so and then go back and try to rework the chorus. Keep writing jewels like this one.

Loved Jimi Hendricks and the Beatles.

Thanks Doug for the insight  from the K&K site. I did listen to that previously but after you do so much research things start to get cloudy with all the data. I guess the easiest way is to try it first without. I can always get a preamp if I don't like the sound without one. Thanks to all who shared their thoughts. It's what I like about this site.

Doug, Thanks for the info . I'll try it without a preamp first.

Thanks for the info.  I have been busy as of late but I try to check the forums as often as I can.
Tenement , I will check that out.
Doug, Thanks for that advice. If I don't need to spend the extra money that would be great.  Most sites that offer the K&K's generally suggest using with a preamp.
Do you think it would work just as well thru a P.A. system ? That's generally what I use.

I'm looking to buy an off board preamp . Does anyone have input on what they like or don't like. I want to change my Fishman under saddle pickup to a K&K pure mini and need an off board preamp. I've been looking at L R Baggs & Fishman.
I'd like your opinion.

I have a Keyser capo I use on my Taylor 12 string and I have No issues with buzzing. I don't go higher than the 3rd fret. My friend uses a Shub capo on his Martin 12 string he started getting some buzzing once he got the neck adjusted the buzzing went away.  I hope you can resolve your problem.

Catchy, I like it.  Flows real nice. I love the simplicity of the fills you put in.
