I've got a couple of quick questions. hope someone has an answer...

How do I get an avatar on my profile? I keep hearing my pictures are too big. Anybody have a good idea of how to shrink pics?

Also, I'm looking for a chart that can show me chords on up the neck (not barre chords).
Thanks in advance for any advice.

So the D7 is like a suspension, almost as if the music is on tip-toe saying, "Don't-stop-listening-there's-more-to-come-"

LOL! Exactly!

I just finished polishing up the acoustic version of " When I'm alone" by Brandon Heath. I got done last week recording sixteen songs so I took a break from playing but I am again picking up my guitar and looking for new songs.

Brandon Heath is Christian Rock, right?

I am not the go to person for Music Theory, but I'll try to answer your question anyway. D is the 5th note (or V note) of G Major. which means it's the next in line in the circle of 5ths (there's a chart in the link below). If you were playing in the key of C Major your V note would be G. Typically at the end of a verse you will play the V chord for two bars, but a common alternative - especially in Jazz and Blues - is to play the second bar a V7. (If you're playing in the key of G your V7 chord will be D7.) The reason songs are sometimes done this way is to sound unfinished, or to lead into the next verse.
But like I said, I'm not too good at all with Theory, so you will for sure want to ask someone else (I think Jerome or Baldguitardude would be a lot better at explaining. they both know theory.) Good luck!

Hey Kate, welcome to chordie. What kind of music? Country? I've got some good country. I'm 19 so I play mainly new music. But keep in mind, a lot of your audience will be 'older' so it's good to learn the oldies too. (i.e. hotel California, dust in the wind, all Beatles songs, etc.) I've learned several Taylor Swifts, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Band Perry, maybe a Miranda Lambert or two. Not sure where I got all the music, and I don't have a song book, but I'll give you some links:

http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … gid=106101        Taylor swift, etc.

http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … ngid=72750          Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins, Shanie Twain

http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … gid=296516        Several great songs!

http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … gid=252524        Christian

Hope this helps!

That Bm is actually the one I used for If I Die Young, Amy. No bass. (I think I originally said F# for bass.) This chord does sound good in some songs, better even sometimes, But the barre chord is so much more useful. Thanks for the link Dguyton. I will also check out these books. I love Travis picking. And thanks M.B. I'll look that book up too.

Sounds like fun. Is your sister still playing guitar?

Thanks so much Zurf! And I was asking anyone with an answer:) . Definitely will look into these books, they sound great.

So sweet Pix! Can't believe he picked it up that fast. You must just be a great teacher. smile Good tutorial and glad you got to have fun with the boy.

Now, the book that I'm using to learn basic fingerstyle provides a "Cheater Bm" where instead of using a barre you make the Am shape with fingers 2, 3, and 4, and then use finger 1 to fret the high E string at the second fret.

I hope it's not cheating... I do it all the time. But some songs sound better that way. To me at least. If I Die Young - off the top of my head.

What book do you use for fingerstyle? I love fingerstyle but can't find many lessons on it.

Just read this post. So funny!!! I Have noticed muted strings when I fingerpick my B, I'll try the capo. Thanx

Absolutely! One of my favorites. Josh Turner sang it too, and did beautifully. But their's just something special about Merle Haggard.

Love the song Silver Wings but can't find the chords. Any help is loved! Think Merle Haggard was the original singer. Thanks!

Well........Both. (was joking around, her husband sounds sweet is all.)

I think I could make do with one Guild, one Martin, one Yamaha, and one Taylor.  You know, acoustics.  And maybe a Gretsch or a Larrivee.

Or one Breedlove. smile

Oh, gotcha. I thought you already had it. But soon enough. That's really nice of your husband.... I should get one of those. tongue

Haha! Guess me and Amy's got it made... She must've already seen this before she got her Martin. tongue
