Peatle - that was very entertaining... the song was great, the Bee Gees were great, the video was great
but what stole the show for me were the cleaning woman and the guy driving the Van ( might be the same person smile  )

I like most of the Bee Gee music - but overall 0- disco never was appealng to me.

Phill

Not "miffed" or even angry at all.  It just
was that there are two perspectives.
I actually loved the song Peatle gave us - its really, really good!

Yup, Dylan Thomas is one of my fave  reads, and Bob (Zimmerman ) Dylan is one of my fave songwriters.
Yes - Dylan used his name when he went pro.
I knew h was from Wales and put that reference in there specifically for you !
So cool that you were able to walk the same streets as this dude.  I see you can visit (and even stay overnight)
his house at 5 Cwmdonkin Drive in the Uplands suburb of Swansea - now a museum.

I'd love to hear some of those stories - I'm sure the local lore is awesome
and not widely published.

Thanks for sharing

Song I posted in another thread

Rage by Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[G]I ain’t going gentle, no, [C]not into that good[G] night

[G]Instead, I’ll get it going, and [C]face the coming [G]fight

[G]Ain’t ever run from nothin’, no [C] nothin’ my whole life [G] long

[G]I believe in myself, so I’m [C]gonna make sure that I’m [G]strong

.

Verse 2

.

[G] Gotta be brave and believe that [C]you are strong [G]enough

[G]can’t ever back down, you [C]gotta get mad dog [G] tough

[G]Whatever the problem is,always [C] choose to stand and [G] fight

[G]The poet from Wales said, [C]Rage against the dying [G]light

.

Chorus

.

Yeah,[C] rage,rage, rage,rage - against the dying [G]light

Yeah, [C]rage, rage, rage, don't - go down without a [G]fight

yeah [C]don't,don't,don't, don't - go gentle, into that good [G]night

Yeah, [D]rage, rage, rage, don't –[C] go down without a [G]fight

.

Verse 3

.

[G]It won’t be easy, might be the[C] hardest thing I’ve ever [G] done

[G]might be blood and tears, but [C]I ain't gonna turn and [G]run

[G]we know sooner or later there [C]comes a time to fly [G]away

[G]but until that time’s a [C] comin’, I'll live life my own[G] way

.

Verse 4

.

[G]Might not stay out all night, might [C]play my guitar kinda [G] low

[G]might sing a little softer, might [C]run those streets a little [G]slow

[G]if I see the sun rise, but [C]can’t watch it fade into the [G] sea

[G] Raise you glass, say "cheers", and [C] smile when you think of [G]me

.

Chorus

.

Yeah,[C] rage,rage, rage,rage - against the dying [G]light

Yeah, [C]rage, rage, rage, don't - go down without a [G]fight

yeah [C]don't,don't,don't, don't - go gentle, into that good [G]night

Yeah, [D]rage, rage, rage, don't –[C] go down without a [G]fight

outgo

Yeah, [D]rage, rage, rage, don't –[C] go down without a [G]fight

Ok

I listened to a vesrion sung by al when he was older - it changed my guess
https://vimeo.com/76246596   this is the version I am referring to.

at first I thought it was a song just about hoping that a guys luck would change and kind f an opportunists outlook.  After this version, I think he was saying no matter what you go through on Earth there is a blue sky at the end - Heaven.

He was just so peaceful and really feeling in this performance.

Thanks for sharing Brian

I don't care if I win this " prize" as  the prize has actually already been handed out - great music, and interaction among chordians (although I wish more would participate)

Jim

ps

Brian this contest reminds me a bit of Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory smile

Peatle,

What an awesome song, awesome songwriter, awesome person.

She married Graham Nash at one point and the song " Our House " he wrote after they went shopping one day and came back to the house.
Ironically the marriage didn't last long.

This version is very nice.   I remember Judy Collins as the singer who made the song a big hit.

Joni Mitchell wrote so many songs that were huge hits for other singrs, but she had a teriffic recording career as well.

Song I started writing last night - went  to bed  and couldn't sleep.

got up at 4:30 and started working on it again -   finally finished it  smile

These are the chords and lyrics

Going, Going…… Gone By Jim Kenyon

I use a walk down on 5th string  - b,c then the C  chord on all of  the verse lines like the first line would be b on the word "on", and c on the word "the".  (lol - I think that' right!)

.

.

Verse 1

.

[G]I was standing, on the [C]seashore, my [D] feet stuck in the [G]sand

[G]I was watching, as a [C]tall ship un[D]furled it’s travelin’ [G]folds

[G]I didn’t know, where it [C]was going, [D]as it faded in the [G]dusk

[G] oh oh oh oh,it seems [C]you never know, [D]what the future [G] holds

.

Verse 2

[G]Got me wondering, if you [C] feel that our [D] love is fading a[G]way

[G] Got me thinking, do you [C] still hold me [D] somewhere in your [G]heart

[G] Got me searching, for the[C] memories[D] when I made you [G] smile

[G] oh oh oh oh, seems we’ve [C] drifted, yeah we've[D] drifted miles a[G]part

.

Chorus

.

[C]With every breath I take, every part of me is slowly [G]breaking,

[C] I see us as we used to be, but those thoughts leave me [G]aching

[C] Do you love me still, though I’m not what you want me [G]to be

seems our [D] love is going ,going [C] gone, ain’t no more you and [G]me

.

Verse 3

.

[G] If you were here now, I could [C] look into your [D] eyes and see for[G]ever

[G] If you were here now, I would [C] tell you that [D] wishes can come [G]true

[G] If you were here now, I would [C] hold you in my [D] arms and feel your [G]warmth

[G] oh oh oh oh, seems I [C] can’t let [D] go, I'm still in love with [G]you

.

Chorus

[C]With every breath I take, every part of me is slowly [G]breaking,

[C] I see us as we used to be, but those thoughts leave me [G]aching

[C] Do you love me still, though I’m not what you want me [G]to be

I am guessing that the powers that commissioned the building of the dam were giant corporations - hydro-electric companies and of course politicians from big cities that will suck the water out and pipe it miles away to a growing population.  It is exactly what happened around where I live - all the water goes 180 miles away to NYC Metro area.

Brian,
I agree with you that there many excellent writers and songs out there today.
The performance you provided us was an excellent rendition of the song " The Chain", however I believe the context in which songs are written  belong in that context. No one except the writer knows exactly how the song should sound or  how it should feel, albeit 100 people could hear a song and not one of them feel the same way.
In contrast to the jazzy rendition, FM put so much energy into that song, and when you watch the facial expressions of Lindsday Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and the others you can feel the anguish and heartpain  of the song much better in my humble opinion.

P.S.  When I see and hear modern bands using so much pre-programmed mucic and synthetic music - it just loses me sad

Peatle

The place where the met is beautiful - on the coast of Oregon.
That song is fantastic. Shawn Mullins is a superb musician and a great songwriter.  He also wrote the song Lullaby which was a nice hit for him.

Thanks for sharing.

Jim

Brian-  nice find

I have listened to this song many times prior.
They are a talented, out of the main stream - group.
Great music.

Keep'em coming.

Jim

Brian

I agree with both Phill and and Petey - this was not one his best songs by far.  Mimicked some of his earlier hits in some ways.

However - the lyrics sure seem to fit the message as you have indicated  and Petey already identified - MIA's on Chordie.

The lyrics also sounded a little creepy, in that the second time i listened I felt like he was talking about all his friends had died - just a weird vibe.

I also agree with Phill - I'd like you to continue this - even if just once a week for the same reason Phill indicated.

There are so many great songs out there that we have not uncovered - mostly because mainstream radio doesn't want to play them if there is no money .

Thanks for the week of entertainment Brian - much appreciated

Jim

Nice song Brian,
Frank has one of those voices that when your in your car or a nightclub, and you hear a song being sung by him,
you NEVER have to
ask " who is that singer?"

He and a limited number of others have that remarkable uniqueness.  In the Johnny Cash Movie called " I Walk The Line, producer Sam Phillips laid it on the line about what songs are great and what separates musicians from the crowd of wannabee's . Here is a link to it-   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_NQ9yUQ6cY
(Johnny Cash's voice is one of those unique one's as well.)

That is  beautiful rendition.

Jim

I like songs that include a bit of history or are about a specific place or event.

This one of my favorites ( and I wish I had written)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mkz8TnVQSOQ
John Prine is pure genius - this song has so many twists and turns it's crazy - but he fits it all together.

great performance as well

Prine was one of the best lyric writers of all time.  Too bad he passed so early.

That's a great song a # 1 hit for Fleetwood Mac.
That was before  Fleetwood   changed  the members of the band and added  Lindsay Stevie Nicks and Christine (Perfect) McVie She married McVie.

Kind of a sad sad bluesy song.

Shall I tell you about my life
They say I'm a man of the world
I've flown across every tide
And I've seen lots of pretty girls
I guess I've got everything I need
I wouldn't ask for more
And there's no one I'd rather be
But I just wish that I'd never been born
And I need a good woman
To make me feel like a good man should
I don't say I'm a good man
Oh, but I would be if I could
I could tell you about my life
And keep you amused I'm sure
About all the times I've cried
And how I don't want to be sad anymore
And how I wish I was in love

The longest song on Wings’ 1973 album Band On The Run, ‘Picasso’s Last Words (Drink To Me)’ was written during a dinner party Paul and Linda McCartney had in Montego Bay, Jamaica with the actor Dustin Hoffman.

On one of our Jamaican holidays we had heard that Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen were around, shooting the film Papillon. We were invited to visit the set and Dustin asked us back to his house for dinner. He was asking me how I write songs; I explained that I just make them up. He said, Can you make up a song about anything?’ I wasn’t sure, but he pulled out a copy of Time, pointed to an article and said, ‘Could you write a song about this? It was a quote from Picasso, from the last night of his life. Apparently, he had said to his friends, ‘Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can’t drink anymore,’ and then gone to bed and died in his sleep. So I picked up a guitar, started to strum and sing ‘Drink to me, drink to my health…’, and Dustin was shouting to his wife, ‘He’s doing it! He’s doing it! Come and listen!’ It’s something that comes naturally to me but he was blown away by it. And that song became ‘Picasso’s Last Words’.
