Ha Kenny soaz!

You found the flaw! My first post should've read "practice AND Chordie!"

So glad you've stuck around and stuck with the guitar!

Is big business excluded from prosecution for being peeping Toms?

Hey Flester!

Great Posting! cool

Listening to John Spillane "Who Will Burn Brightly" playing on the top link while writing this - never heard of him, but he's excellent. How about putting a link or two to him in Bands and Artists? I'm sure more people will want to hear him! cool

I'm Playing and doing sound for a Folk Festival on that weekend, so won't be able to make it, but here's hoping that the record is smashed! cool

Hey again Mike_28!

WOW! This is excellent!

Suggestions? It doesn't need changing! Rock songs are usually quite up tempo and you might find another verse useful to fill things out; perhaps bringing it back to the opening comparison of the haves and have nots? You know your plans and it might mean my comments for additions are pointless (tempo, solos, etc).

Look forward to hearing this if/when you record it!

Good on yer! An excellent piece of work! cool

Hey Mike_28 and welcome to Chordie! cool

You've got a song just waiting for chords/music! Rhythm, everything all in place!

Good job! cool

Hey Meggiedude and welcome to Chordie! cool

Less than £20 for a travel guitar? Bargain! If you get fed up with it, don't burn it, I'll buy it from you for £15 including postage big_smile ! Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Hey Jerome! In that Shawn Lane vid, was he smoking a Bidi (Indian cigarette - tobacco wrapped in a bayleaf) or did he need the sunglasses? wink

My mate Big Bob from Briszle (don't argue!!!) bought himself a Martin Backpacker and let me play it (trust me, I was VERY careful!) I think the volume is much greater on yours Al, but the thing the Martin has is a VERY playable neck.

Hey Ken! I have a friend who works in the travel biz and he said there are many complaints about people going for a quiet walk in the highlands and being annoyed to find the hulls aleeve wi tha soond o' mewzuc; you wouldn't know anything about this, would you? big_smile

Brilliant thread! I now know lots more names and styles of travel guitar that I never knew existed! (I thought they were ALL like the Martin Backpacker!)

Good on yer all! cool

Hey Lieven!

I like this, but I can't tell what the artistic truth behind this is.

Are you being flippant to hide something serious, or taking something flippant seriously? Is it abstract?

I can't help thinking this is personal, about life and death and the part that music plays in something that ultimately doesn't make sense.

I like the middle verse best - is that it? a message to concentrate on the bit in between life and death and get the most out of it? Or is it a retrospective?

I have read and come back to this a few times to try and discover your artistic truth. This is a compelling enigma!

Everyone knows that practice is the only surefire way to improving as a player.

Are there any simple, silly, clever or downright obvious things that no-one else thought of that have helped your progress?

Mine:

There are two types of song I learn - those I just wanna play and those that have new chords or techniques in them (new to me that is!)

It's these songs that stretch me as a player and make each further step that bit easier. I also try to write songs incorporating these new chords!

What's your secret tip or trick?

On the way to a gig last night, the guy driving was surprised to hear me say "Les Paul Standard" as we passed thru' Coxely and wondered whom I was talking about. I saw a kid about to get into a car to be driven somewhere by his parents and he was carrying ......... well it wasn't a Fender!

Hey Stephenmperrotti and welcome to Chordie! cool

When you see the 6 lines of a tab, they represent the strings. The topmost line represents the top string (played open it's the highest sounding note) also called Top E or the first string. Imagine laying your guitar flat on your lap and putting the tab over the stings, each line corresponding to the string of the guitar underneath.

The numbers on the lines represent the frets. If you see a 0 (zero) on a line it means you play that string open. If you see a number on a line you play that string fretting at the fret number indicated.

---------0--------
---------1--------
---------0--------
---------2--------
---------3--------
------------------

The above represents a C chord with all notes played at once (strummed or plucked together). 1st string open, 2nd string fretted at 1st fret, 3rd string open, 4th string fretted at 2nd fret, 5th string fretted at 3rd fret and 6th string not played (in this instance).

------------------0--------------
---------------1-----1-----------
------------0-----------0--------
---------2-----------------2-----
------3-----------------------3--
----------------------------------

The above represents that same C chord arpeggiated, or each note played individually one after the other, up then down again.

I hope this is clear, if not get back and all will be explained!

Chons da!

If you've only been playing for 2 1/2 years all is lost, there is no justice and I have to start practicing!

Natural talent and ability - dontcha just hate it?

Hey S.N.S and welcome to Chordie! cool

The best thing to do would be to post a new thread in the Chat Corner and introduce yourself, say how long you've been playing, what you play, what styles you like, location and age aren't important on the Forum, but including them might help you meet up with like-minded people in your area (or you can leave stuff like that 'til later - a chacon son tempo - as the French say (at your own tempo)).

True intentions are respected and supported here, but we need more to go on. If someone said "Let's do a 12 bar in E," and you hate blues, it aint gonna happen!

They're a good crowd here and will give everyone fair go so tell us something and someone, I'm sure, will help if they can.

Welcome, jump in and have fun!

Chons da!

Hey Pix and Wlbaye!

Good job, both! If this thread doesn't end up with 1000 hits minimum, then there is no justice or there aren't that many people who really want to learn and play WELL!

(and you guys play better than well!)

Good on yer both! cool
