Buzzwagon, I too, have a cat named Izzy..  she's all black with a white V on her belly..  a cutie indeed.

My best jam sessions occur at Christmas time when I head home to Massachusetts and jam with my brother and his band..  one of us starts playing a tune and everyone joins in..  and on and on it goes.  I once asked one of the guys to play a Who tune.. he played almost the entire Quadraphenia album..  he's a wicked good guitar player..

Congrats Flybye...  I love my Martin too..   HD28.  Play it daily.

I can hold my own..  so, a good guitar player perhaps but always trying to improve.  Can't play any lead..  I have tremendous respect for those who can..  but, I can back you up for sure..

Check out Google today..  there's a "guitar" on its home page and you can actually record a tune.  See the little grey box that says record..   kinda fun..

Zurf..  very frustrating indeed..  the plateau.  Eliminating booze altogether..  commendable sir.  If you're a beer drinker, don't they have 55 calorie beer?  55 calories.  Jeez.. you use more calories just raising the glass..  kidding.  Keep it up ..  I bet one day soon you'll get on the scale and see a marked improvement to inspire again..  meanwhile, keep on strummin'

BGD..  how did you overcome the issue?  I assume you still have those guitars.

Haven't changed the strings yet..  Interesting about the pencil lead..  may have to try it.  Have to try something..  thanks.

Hello All..  So I got a new Epiphone Dot recently..  very nice, natural color..  seems I'm having some issues with keeping the thing in tune..  thought at first maybe its cause of new strings but I've have it a couple of months now and play it often.. the strings should be stretched by now..  I like the guitar alot but I have to say, not to thrilled with the tuning situation..  I've read good and bad reviews on this guitar..  just getting frustrated with the whole thing..  thoughts?

As a female guitar player, I must give a shout out to Bonnie Raitt.  Outstanding.  As for the boys..  Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jimi...   I can only dream about playing guitar like that..

Detman..  as someone who suffers from such things as asthma and chronic bronchitis..I've had gigs where I could barely talk without coughing and hacking..  but, its like it all goes away once I get up there and start playing and singing..  then, at break time..  the coughing and hacking start over..  can't explain it but I'm happy about it..  like Zurf said.. the show must go on..
Good luck and knock it out of the park!  Deb

Dino48... you are a wise man.  smile

I have to say, I am glad I have a pick guard on my guitars..  I figure the scratches on the pick guard are the ones not on the guitar.  Although, in that picture.. the worn part is on the top of the soundhole.. I wouldn't like a pick guard there..  in my humble opinion, I think the worn out parts of guitars gives 'em lots of character..  especially if you're the one who put them there.  I mean they actually sell new guitars as "road worn"..
Worn or not..  strum away.

I'm with you Pete..  dislike all the reality tv..  I never thought it would go on this long..  and now, there seems to be no end in sight.  Thank God I play guitar..

Ya know.. I did watch.. and enjoyed it.  A nice moment for the Brits.  Everyone I saw was smiling and seemed quite proud - waving their flags, etc.  Just nice to see thousands of people gathered for a peaceful celebration.

My 12 string Aria used to be my primary guitar back in the day...  learned alot on that thing..  it's been nice dragging these two guitars back out..  reminds me of the "early" days.  Amazing how they're pretty much in great shape..  I did have the 6 string set up..  but the wood is good, they sound good..   I use a martin hd28 now and I had to have it rehydrated & set up recently..  I was getting a buzz on the A & E strings on the 3rd fret..  the folks at Appalacian Music Shop in MD took care of it..  the lesson tho..  seems the more expensive the guitar is, the more finicky it is..  that's okay though..  love the martin too..
thanks all.

Hello folks..
Wondering what you think of Aria guitars..  I have a couple of acoustics - a 12 string, sunburst color and a 6 string.. a parlor model that has a maple finish.  Haven't used them in a long time but pulled out the 6 string and had it set up.. its a real nice guitar to bring to the beach or bbq, etc.  Can't recall what I paid for it.. it was a long time ago, probably 1975..  just kinda cool to rediscover it again.  Deb

Wakey..  I absolutely agree with you about the Gretsch G5122..  Its that exact model that got me on a kick to get a semi hollow..  a friend has one that I tried out and it really is a nice guitar.  I checked out the G5120.. but its a full hollow body..  I really like the sleekness of the semi..  bit of a difference in price.. about $300.. from the Dot.. but a sweet guitar indeed.   Man.. now I'm back on getting the Gretsch..

Many thanks folks.  I've been looking at them lately and they really seem to be quite a bargain.  Your reviews - as people who actually have one - are exactly what I needed to make up my mind.  Appreciate it..   deb

If I may tap into the collective wisdom..  anyone have the pros and cons regarding an Epiphone Dot.. especially if you own one..  thumbs up or down?
Thanks.

Very exciting Ben! I love my HD28..   the case that came with mine was pretty generic.. has a Martin plaque type thing near the handle..  the case you got is really nice.  For me, the HD28 was one of my best investments..  I literally play it every day.  Congrats!
