Hi 06sc500, as for your song, you can play in tune, out of tune, up octave, down octave, doesn't matter to me, if it sounds good to you then you've played it correctly. As far as the recording, which is what this forum is about, your doing in my opinion an excellent job. I listened to your song last night and I had the same opinion as Arkady, VOLUME, I think that's the only thing you need to add to this recording. TIP: There are probably several ways to add volume, but I've found I can do this with the "compression effect" on my mixing program(reaper). I usually always add compression anyway to the master track and there is a "gain" control on this effect which you can turn up or down. Someone with more experience than me will probably know a better way to get more volume, that's just the way I do it and it seems to work. If you're using Audacity Russell can probably give you some tips on how to get more volume and a fuller(is that a word?:)) sound using that program. Russell always got a trick up his sleeve.  lol

A+++++ on your choice of tunes...Heart of the Night by Poco is one of my all time favorites. Since your home alone, might be fun to find a song you can crank up, rattle the paint off the walls, and make the neighbors mad. cool

As a side note, I check out Damien Rice,,,what a beautiful voice. Russell there are several songs on youtube with this artist to give you an idea about tempo, sound, etc...

Thanks Roger, so far it's been a lot fun working (hard to call it "work" when you enjoy it so much) on this project. I, like others, am quite anxious to hear how it all comes together. It's amazing how we're able to send our individual styles of instruments, lyrics, and rhythms all over the world and compile it to one complete song. Music is truly the universal language.

Dang Riddler, you beat me to the punch...:). Good luck with reaper weedjie it's a really good music editing program but is sometimes a little complicated to use. If you have any questions feel free to throw it at all of us here at chordie. If we can't answer it, there is a real good forum for this program @ http://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 This forum has questions and answers for the "newbies" as well as the seasoned reaper users. When I first started using reaper I visited this forum quite often...:o anyway happy recording.

yes that would be a correct assumption, I do play a little bit of bass. Me and another dude(chordie name Riddler) jam together and we've jumped into home recording with both feet. We are always trying to get the best sound as possible with the equipment we've got, that's why I was interested in the software you posted. We recently started using a condenser mic, which is great, but it is so sensitive it picks up crickets churping outside the jam room smile .  The ARC software is what got my attention so that we might be able to get that "sound room" sound without a soundroom,,,,man that's confusing, but you get what I mean.

Hi 06sc500, good job on your first multitrack recording. You've done a lot better than I did on several attempts at recording. I agree at all the criticisms mentioned above. Another thing you've got going for you is your tracks sound clear. This is something I struggled with. As Russell mentioned, all you need to do is work on the volumes and panning of your tracks. It's always amazed me how a little panning and volume adjustment can change the whole tune....congrats again and keepem coming. smile

Hi walklikeamelon, this looks like some really good software. I'd especially like to check out the ARC (Acoustic Room Control) software, but it's a bit out of my spending range. Thanks for the post,,,I had no idea that these types of vst effects existed.

Hi dino48, good purchase,,,I got to see America in concert last year when they came to Tennessee(front row woohoo). As far as sound, they were probably the best live band I've ever heard. Everything was crystal clear.

Thanx for the reply(s),,,These strings have been on there for quite some time. I think buying new tuners and strings might be the way to go, as Russell said, surely(and I'll stop calling you shirley lol ) tuners for a mandoline are not extremely expensive.

Hi fellow chordians, I've got a question about a tuner on my old cheap(this may be the key word smile) mandoline. The A strings will not hold their tuning. I can get it into tune, but as soon as you put your fingers on the strings,,,it's out,,,very frustrating. I'm not a very good player but I've had this mandoline for  several years and thought I'd pick it up and start playing but this tuner issue is driving me crazy. Is there a way to fix these tuners or do I just need to replace the tuner(s) with new ones?

Hey Starsailor, I use to play bluegrass music a lot and was always around all the festivals and such. I wanted to start playin the banjo too (but decided to go with bass) and I asked several banjo pickers about "a good banjo for a beginner" and most suggested (as slopicker suggested) a Deering. I looked at several of these banjos in music shops and pawn shops and the price range seemed to be between 3 to 600 buck-a-roos for a mid range banjo. I'd suggest taking an experienced banjo picker along with you when you start shopping, that way you can hear the tone of the instrument as a seasoned player blasts the music shop with...foggy mountain breakdown....:) Anyway good luck with whatever you choose and enjoy the bluegrass.

Great video Russell, I'm blown away with all the equipment on the video....If I could only get my keyboard on my laptop to light up like that while recording I'd be set....lol. lol
