Topic: Guitar repair advice (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I have a friend who has acquired his dads 1960 something Martin D-21. The problem is his sister smashed it over his head sometime in the 70's so it needs to be repaired. The only thing I know that is for sure wrong with it is the back is off of it and split into two pieces. I am sure there is more wrong than that with the back being off of it for 30 years. He has shipped it to Martin for a repair estimate and they have replied with $10,000. As you might imagine he is interested in a second opinion before the guitar becomes a decoration. Does anyone have any suggestions where he can take it or send it for a second opinion. He lives in North Carolina near the Virginia border.

Re: Question for the southpaws (14 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I am not a lefty but I just wanted to say that I have seen leftys who play with a right handed guitar they just learned how to do everything upside down. I have witnessed this type of playing on 2 different ocations. there for a lefty taught this way would would play a right handed guitar left handed.
I have also seen a guy pick up my guitar, turn it upside down and play it better than I could play it right side up. It is amazing to watch a lefty play a right handed guitar upside down.

There was a good looking blond flying coach to Chicago. During the flight she gets up and takes an empty seat in first class. The attendant saw her and asked her if she had a ticket for first class. She replied I am blond, beautiful and I am going to Chicago. Unable to get her to move the attendant goes to the cockpit to tell the pilot. The co pilot says he will go talk to her. He approaches and tells her she has to return to her seat in coach and she replies to him I am blond, beautiful and I am going to Chicago. After he was unable to get the passenger to return to her seat the co pilot returned to the cockpit. The pilot said wait a minute, you said she is blond right, well my wife is blond so I speak blond and I will get her to move. He walked up, leaned over and whispered something in her ear. She stood up and returned to her seat in coach without saying a word. When he sat down in the cockpit the co pilot asked what he whispered to her. The pilot said he told her that first class was not going to Chicago.

Has anyone ever heard of a Yamaki Deluxe guitar. My neighbor found it on Craigslist for $100 and wants to go buy it. I found some very favorable reviews on the internet so far but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with them. It sounds like a great deal if the neck is straight and the top and bridge are solid.

The pain from nylon strings is just as bad as from steel strings. As others have said repeatedly: stick with it and the sore fingers (including the really debilitating pain you may get down the middle of some fingers for a while) will eventually be just a bad memory.
If you play often your fingers will get tough. My callouses will crack and peel and in order to smooth my fingertips out so that they don't get caught on the strings I use a nail file to sand my fingertips smooth again.

It looks like it is Fishman AEQ SS so now I have the part number. I bought it from Guitar Center and they were supposed to order one and call me but they have not yet. I will call them and if they don't come through I will order it direct. Thanks for the information, that was a lot faster than I could have tracked it down.
Thanks again

Ibanez AW 100, the electronics are Ibanez and the battery goes into a plastic piece(missing) and slides into and snaps into the side of the guitar. Once locked in the battery then makes contact and powers the electronics.

I bought an accoustic electric but it is missing the piece that holds the battery in place. Does anybody know what to call it and where I can get one?

Re: Help with cords (15 replies, posted in Music theory)
Which ones do you know? You can go a long way on A,Am,A7,C,Cadd9,D,E,Em,F and G. You will eventually need to learn barre chords but you have to start slow and work your way up. Start with 3 or 4 chords(I started with G,C and D) and learn them flawlessly and then you can build on them one chord at a time. Don't let the number of chords on the chart intimidate you, just learn the basics and in time you will be able to learn a new chord everyday if you want to. I'm sure someone else will reply with some more advice. Oh yeah, I wish now I would have learned to play E and C with my middle, ring and pinky fingers in order to make barre chords easy to learn
Just out of curiosity, are there any members on here that know every chord on the chord chart?

I looked through my book and found that most GCD songs I have also have Em or A in them. Neither are hard chords to learn and would open up many songs for you. Here are some I play with just GCD.
Alan Jackson Drive
Heres a quarter Travis Tritt
Chicken Fried Zac Brown
Neon Moon Brooks and Dunn
Down Home Alabama
Song of the South Alabama
If you like Hank Jr or Skynyrd I can give you some more.

Some members of this forum have been posting here for years and have seen many of the topics 2 or 3 times already, but some of the newer members have not and can learn from the simplest of discussions. So I say if you think of something or have a question then post it and let the other members of the forum decide if it is "stupid" or "unstupid" to them and whether they want to respond to it. After all we come to these forums to share experience and learn from each other so I say post away.

You are a wise man, if only you could impart some of that wisdom on my wife I would catch a lot less flack about beer consumption. If I could convince her that beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy I would be golden.

I made a saddle out of a deer antler someone gave me and what a difference it made. I made it pretty quickly and it is not perfect but it sounds much better. I think I am going to order some blanks for saddle and nuts and change a couple of guitars out to bone. I have some more antler to use but I will need some more tools and it is not worth the effort when you can get pre made blanks at a cheap price. If you have not upgraded from plastic saddle and nut I recommend it.

I have Pandora as an app on my phone. It is great because you can create multiple stations and always have music for the mood you are in. I regularly hear songs I have never heard before so it is a good way to explore a genre of music you may not be familiar with.
