Congratulations to New Zealand, that was some of the best sailing I've seen.

Chordie is free, doesn't cost anything but time. Complaints and whining are not necessary and make everyone uneasy. If what one looks for is not here, look elsewhere on this thing called the internet.

Re: When You Look Up The Chords To A Song... (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
When a song isn't completly written out with the chords above the words, I'm lost. To learn and remember a song, I'll write it out by hand and place the chords above the words. My memory isn't the best (thanks to several concussions) and I prefer to have the song on a stand in front of me to play it from begining to end. I don't play/perform for other people very often, I have but don't particulaly enjoy that. I play for my own pleasure and if someone stops to listen while I'm playing thats OK (I live pretty for away from people so that doesn't happen often).

Re: Trying to play. (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Giving things up is a hard adjustment to make, seems like there is no end to it. I ain't ready to check-out just yet so the list of things I can't do anymore just keeps getting longer. I played hard and worked hard and life's taken a toll on me, wore me down and beat me up. Every once in a while I will see someone I knew a long time ago and think holy crap, I ain't doing to bad, at least I'm not like that guy who can't even chew his own food or zip up his pants. My brother and I are the only two left of our family, we get together a couple of times a year and laugh about it all, we give thanks that we are still having a good run of it all, we check each other to make sure we're all zipped up and walk on down the road laughing at the great life we're still living, even if we have to give up a few things

Hey there Bushy, good to hear from you. Like you I'm slowing down after years of working hard and playing hard. I still play some, mostly old time country. Its always nice to know that some of the younger generation are carrying on the country music.

None of these people are coming to my house for dinner, so I have no problem with judging the work on it's own. It does influence purchasing decisions, though.
There ya go, what he said!

Thats why we love our wives, through it all they put up with us. Glad you're OK.. My wife is always the navigator and we've got a good system for getting around, she talks and I listen. We live pretty far out on the ridge so we've learned to rely on each other. My doctor is hinting that I should have a colonoscopy but I don't see that happening anytime soon, I ain't looking for a problem where there ain't one.

Re: Pickup For AMY'S Guitar (16 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I have a Belcat SH-85 sound hole pickup, works great. The cord runs out of the sound hole and mounts on the bottom strap button, just plug a regular cord into it and run it to your amp, easy-peasy, no holes to drill. I leave it in all the time, it does'nt get in the way when I'm fingerpickin or strumming with a pick. I don't remember the price but I know it was'nt much, I don't use an amp often and did'nt want to drop a lot of money on it. I use it more than I thought I would, the sound is nice and warm or it can rock, with the distortion turned on I can get some nice sounds adjusting the gain control. The only downside is now I want to buy a better amp with a lot of effects.

Welcome to retirement JJJ! I retired in 2012 due to the fact that I worked hard and played even harder. Still have some adjustments to make now that I have limitations on what I am physically able to do. Enjoy yourself you earned it.

Nice one mojo, it reminded me of my dad and mom. Dad was a long haul trucker back in the 50's and 60's and was on the road a lot. It was a hard life for Mom with four boys to raise up. I know she was lonely and missed him but that was life back then, she did alright by us and kept us on the straight and narrow.

Re: concerts i wish i hadn't seen (17 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I have to admit to never going to any big name concert, the stories above make me feel like I didn't miss much. I used to work at a local bar many years ago and heard some great music played by local bands. A lot of it was cover songs with some well done originals thrown in. I was always amazed at the talent of these local bands.

Re: Recreational Habits ??? (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
JJJ, I made a similar decision 28 years ago, one day at a time I made a better way for myself. Some stood by me and others drifted away. The past is gone, I've learned to live in the "now" and have made peace with myself. You will do this and be better for it. Make your own path and don't look for footprints to follow, you can't see where your going if your looking down, best wishes to you JJJ.
