I do like my coffee as I usually drink 6 to 8 cup every day. As for wine I don't know beans about it. Back in the day we did go through truckloads of Boone's Farm Apple and Strawberry Hill but that's a different story. We are totally country and think a good food pairing is cornbread and a cold glass of buttermilk. My wife and I are both diabetic so we are not looking to ?overload" on the stuff. My wife' doctor has told her that a glass of wine at bedtime won't hurt with the diabetis but will help her sleep at night so we both are gonna try it. Just dion't know what to try. Will try some of the suggestions and see what happens.

TF, I do like the 11 / 52 D'addario strings and don't feel like I loose anything on the bass side by using heavier strings. Also, just like BGD said, tuning 1/2 step down to Eb is a very good option when using heavier strings. Or even a whole step down. You will loose the string tension but by adding a capo you can bring things back to standard. And yes you can tweek your tuning AFTER you place the capo on the guitar.

My wife's doctor has told her several times to drink a glass of wine at nite to help her sleep. Neither of us know enough about wine to know whai's good and what's not. We know to stay away from a box and the bottles with a screw top but other tnan that we know nothing. Not looking for anything that goes with dertian meals just something to drink at bedtime. Any suggestions that don't cost a fortune?

Zurf, I use 9 / 42 Earthgood Lite's. The guitar is set-up with a bone nut / saddle, ebony bridge pins and a very low action. I get plenty of volume, ringing chords / notes and, what I think and been told, a great sound. The guitar stays in standard tuning and renmains in tune even after days in it's case. Whenever I pick it up it may need a little minor tweeking and its ready to go.

Ever since I got my K Yairi 12 string guitar I have not been able to put it down. It has been my "go to" guitar for nearly 2 years, now, and i have been playing it exclussively. The action is set extremely low, set-up is great and I have a good set of 9 / 42 strings on it.This week I got out my "old faithful Tak" and played a few songs with it. Thursday night I went and practiced with friends for about 2 hours getting ready for our Friday night jam session. Friday night I played thru a 3 hour set with the Tak and today my fingers are very sore. My Tak is also set-up right, very low action but I have a set of good 11 / 52 strings on it. With both guitars being set-up as they are the only difference is the string guage one would think that the 12 string would be harder to play due to having more strings but that is not the case. Anyway, today I plan on sitting in my reclyner and letting my fingers heal. I've already had my wife bring me a couple of cups of coffee so things are going well. Hopefully I can keep this up for the rest of the day.

gooffy77, welcome to the site. Yhere has been some excellant information given to you, already, but I would like to add the following;

Acoustic guitars usually have a much larger string guage than an electric guitar. Lighter guage acoustic strings are much easier to play but you may lose than good bass sound. Experiment with some lighter guage strings until you find something you like. Also, a low action is easier to play. You may want to have a good guitar tech look at your guitar and have it checked out. You would be amazed at how a good "set-up" will help a guitar's playability. Barre chords are moveable - so try playing them all up and down the neck. A good practice set would be C - F - G. There are many, many songs in that chord progression.

As mentioned above try using your middle, ring and index finger to form open chords - E - Am come easy. Once you learn this those barres will come easy. On the A shaped barre chords you may want to try makking a "double barre" with your index and ring finger. This is much easier for me. Learn the E shape, Am and the A shape barre chords first as they are the easiest to learn. As for the C, D and G shaped barre chords I would stay away from them until I learned tie other barre's as they are more furstrating. Anyway, dood luck and keep practicing.

Leaving today for another "Honeymoon" weekend. Gotta real nice motel room set-up, a nice dinner planned and a couple of little blue pills in my pocket. This will make the 45th "Honeymoon" weekend me and my special lady have had. Looking forward to many more.

I've had Starbucks coffee and did not care, or like it, at all. I drink a lotta coffee throught the day. I like plain old "home brewed" straight outta the pot. No sugar, no cream, no anything, just good coffee. Most people who drink the Starbucks stuff go for the "frou-frou' added condiments and are not really drinking coffee. Think I'll go get another cupo, now.

Bill, glad to hear that Dondra is doing better. Contact me privately as I may have some information about how you can get discount coupons for Dondra' meds. They save me quite a bit of money on my meds and we use them all the time. I will be outta town this weekend so I might not get your message until I get back. Gotta take the wife out for a "honeymoon" weekend so wish me luck.

Now I done found another depth finder for my boat. This one is a Humminbird 859ci DI Combo. I'll be able to link both units via an ethernet cable and share all information between them. That'll give me Down imaging, Side imaging, GPS, Maps, Chartplotting and Sonar in the front and back of the boat. Now all I have to do is find me a smart high school student who can teach me how to use them.

In my younger days I phished a lotta tournaments and managed to win some good money. I did spend way more money on phishing stuff than I won. but that's another story. Now. having been away for several years, I'm really looking forward to getting back into the sport. Anybody want to come go phishing with me?

Bill, I know exactly what Dondra is going thru because I been there - and my wife / family has undergone the "code blue" calls. My wife has also had to pick me up (with some help) outta the floor and the yard when I've passed out. Be sure to have Dondra ask her doctor about taking a new-moan-yah shot - also, aks about taking a fluid pill. One of my meds causes me to build up fluid in my lungs and this causes me to have the new-moan-yah. Last time I was in the hospital I lost 13 pounds that was all fluid. I, now, keep a close eye on my weight and when I start gaining a few pounds I start back on the fluid pills. Hope Dondra get's well real soon and you need to take care of yourself, as well.

Nela

Dave, glad everything is working out for you. As for your question concerning the humidifer, it's whatever you like best - just don't over do it.

Playing your guitar after a professional set-up sure 'nuff makes it look good to you're ears, don't it? Thanks for the update and don't be a stranger, keep posting.

When I first came down with A-Fib I had some bad issues with my BP bottoming out. If I stood up to fast I would nearly pass out, and did a few times. So I do understand what Dondra is going thru. It took awhile, but, with trial and error my doctor finally got my meds worked out. I still have the A-Fib, and I guess I always will, but it's under control. Make sure Dondra and her doctor stay on top of this and I hope ya'll get better.

Yesterday I found a brand new Humingbird 899 SI HD on sale for $699.99 so I bought it. This unit regularly sales for $1000.00 so I think it was a good deal. So far I've got my wife beliving I found it on the side of the road as I was walking getting my morning exercise. Now, if I can only get to the mail before she does when the bank statement comes in I'll be ok.

Nela

Joey, you have an addiction to guitars, but. I guess it's a good thing to have. It could be worse, you could be buying banjo's.

So what are you getting for the wife? You know you wouldn't be getting the new guitar if she didn't put her "stamp of approval" on you getting the new guitar.

Anyway. the smile on your face just about tells it all. ENJOY.

TF, sorry but you are not going to like this reply. Since your new guitar has been traveling all those miles you need to be aware that most shipping of products are sent out in trucks, trailors or containers that are not temperture controlled. As such, when the new guitar arrives you should let is sit, "unopened" for a day or 2 to become acclimated to your location. I'm not saying this to be cute but only to help you. Also, be sure to take pictures of the "packaging" prior to opening so you can verify if noticable damage was done during the shipping process. It would also be good to let the delivery person know you are going to wait for a period of time to open it, as well. One other thing that may be a good idea is that when you tune the guitar for the 1st time, tune it a step (or 1/2 step) down for a day or so. You can always capo 1st or 2nd fret to bring it into standard tuning. Take care of the guitar and hope you many years of enjoyment.

Bill, for me it's the sound and feeling. There's something about going from a C chord to an Am chord. Or a G to a Em that just sounds right on a lotta songs. Or a D to a Bm and so on. Kinda like why a 5 chord sounds better when played as a 7th chord.

1st time out on the water in over 2 months due to my recent surgery. Struggled to find fish but ended up with 15 nice keepers. All in all a nice day on the water even though it got up to 97 degrees.

Bill is still MIA, folks. Read the posts. Bill said in another thread that he was thinking about taking some time off so I'm guessing that is what he's doing. He'll show up, soon, full of pee and vinegar so ya'll better look out.

Deadstring, you are not highjacking this thread. If there is anything I can do for you, or any other member of this forum, all you gotta do is ask. I may be going to Shreveport on the 19th so maybe we can meet up and drink a pot or 2 of coffee or something. You take care of yourself and keep us informed. I, too, have had problems with different medications I was taking and had to get things stopped or changed.
