because i need the energy to clean the house - so I'll be playing the whole of Absolution and Black Holes CD! Matt Bellamy has saved Brit Rock single handedly!

Hi Doc
About 700 Usd - it is a Martin copy I think available with V or D neck  - I can look at one anywhere in UK, Benelux or Germany if I find one - but the usual iweb sites/nternet stores don't list it. Seems strange because the reviews are very good. Have you used mail order from the US?

Now I,m listening to Devils and Dust, Springsteen (I think I'll add "All I' m Thinking Bout" to this list of Dobro songs I can(t) play)
Before it was Until the Son turns Black - Ray Lamontagne (Empty is a good tune to play!)

In a fit a jealously on seeing guitarpxxs Morgan Monroe on youtube (all that inlay!), I went looking for dealer in Europe.
Guess what - no results! I think they are actually made in Asia so I was wondering if thy were branded under a different name here.
Here is a picture of the guitar:-

Anyone seen a dealer or a twin in North Europe? I'd really like to see one in the flesh!

P.S I' m listening to Springsteen Devils and Dust CD as I type - does he really have to sing as if he's lost his false teeth?

For singing and playing - Across the Universe - Beatles
For freaking out to - Supermassive Black Hole - Muse
For waving a lighter in the air to = Karma Police -Radiohead

But it's an endless list I guess!

This is the flip side of the other strumming post. I am really not pleased with the tone I get when using a pick. So I was wondering if any pick (or plectrums as we used to call em in ancient Rome) user can reveal the tricks to soften up the tone. I am also confused by the thickness/material choices. The only thing I DO know is you need 10 so you can find 1 when you need it!

yes - I use the rigid claw shape too- but if I play daily it wears my index nail away so it becomes sore and useless for picking. I started using picks recently because of that, but i find they produce a harsher sound - so I'll post a new thread on that topic and see if I can get some tips. Using the thumb alone has never really appealed.

No its not normal -it usually takes 12 months - well done!
Ray LaMontagne sounds EXACTLY like a asthmatic goose - so spot on!

nice idea - Hey what's the big guitar with all the abelone inlay - looks scrummy!

Turn that anger into action - do your own thing, form your own band and steal their gigs off em! Sometimes these unexpected changes force a new direction - for the better. Here's some Ray Davies for you:

It's really good to see you rocking out and having fun,
Living like you just begun.
Accept your life and what it brings.
I hope tomorrow you'll find better things.

Anyone like to share which album you are into this week - don't have to be a new one.

I'm enyoying

Sheryl Crow -  Wildflower

because I picked it up in the library on a whim (haven't listened to her stuff in the last 5 years) and was surprised at the quality of the songs - I like the title track a lot and keeps me calm in the traffic jam to work. Seems like there are some good tunes to have a go at on the old acoustic.

Forgot my votes:
Pulp (lyrically) and Radiohead (sonically) were original I think
Different Class and OK Computer were highlights of 90's for me.
I don't claim to like Kid A - but it is weird enough to be original!

I'm not sure if Jeff Lynne or Roy Wood would agree that Rasputina are original
10538 Overture anyone?

Is that a typical Scottish compliment to the ladies?

I just found out about the Gibson Dove ... ooohh nooooo! Help!
It's even more expensive. Anyone got one?

Beatles - a lot of bands have moments of brilliance and inspiration, but no one can match the quality and diversity of music output in a mere 5 year period. Does Abbey Road sound 38 years old - I think not! Has any dared put out an album with virtually every genre on it since The White Album? McCartney is now a national treasure - they should preserve him in wax - especially if it stops him writing another Frog Chorus.

Memphis Minnie, Rory Block

Ray -  I cut my teeth on Beatles and Cat Stevens and now I'm a big KT Tiunstall fan. I am attempting to get to grips with delta/ragtime blues just to keep it interesting! However I like to bang out some punk off and on... I love slow blues of Gilmour, Knoffler, Green etc and I'm seeing Suzanne Vega in concert next month - so most things interest me.
