Sorry I haven't been here much, knee deep in the hoopla with moving and all that jazz.

Anyway, here's Tom Rush at his best.

It's not cheating. It's knowing your way around your fret board.

Jazz players will have learnt the E. Em, E7th. min7th, maj7th, e.t.c but think of it as a starting point for a progression. A I,IV,V (1 4 5 ) Could be E A B. Slide up to your 3rd fret it becomes G C D. but it is still a 1,4,5 progression.

I stand corrected. wink  And your right, my teacher is showing me how to use the fret board to my playing skill advantage.  And going beyond the comfort zone of regular chord changes.  Thats not cheating, but it's fun to say it anyway.

Yes, sliding down or up on the fret board is a good way to "cheat" on different chords.  My teacher has shown me several types, it works and is far less frustrating to deal with.  smile

I avoid reality shows like the plague for the all the drama and nastiness that seems to creep up in them.  I suppose it makes for great rating to have drama and conflict, but, that's not my style.  Even out takes of bad auditions for american idol, might be worth a brief giggle or two, but, then it gets cringe worthy.

My preference is shows on History or Discovery or a few of the other channels that are fun to watch and have a sort of teaching style;  myth busters, pawn stars, american pickers, etc.

Mostly, I just stay away from the tube and practice, read or do projects.

As my guitar teacher always shows me, there is always an easier way to do a hard or difficult chord.  It just takes the right teacher and the right knowledge of the fret board.

So did I.   But since I don't play in public, not sure if chicks would dig me now....they certainly didn't before.   My awesome wife didn't go that route.  smile

Hi Selso, my wishes for you echo all the others posted here.  FWIW, I have never been thru a divorce, but, I've had some pretty bad times scattered throughout my 55 years of existence and what got me thru all of them was my natural stubborness, and love of music and nature.  Taking a hike with a tune that I loved running thru my head was great therapy.

I call my guitar lessons the best form of therapy that I have ever done.  You'll get the feeling back eventually, just don't push it.  Take your time and make sure you give yourself some serious "me" time and do the things you love and treasure to feel better.

Good luck!  We're pulling for you!

I've always desired to since as far back as I can remember.  Unfortunately, time and money never allowed and the desire faded.  But, it's when my daughter started lessons, that the itch crept back in or should I say swept back in.  Her teacher, (my teacher now) noticed I was always asking questions and that I was really focussed in on what she was doing.  So I finally, screwed up the courage and initiative to ask for lessons, buy the guitar and just do it.   That was 5 years ago........best thing I ever did other than go to nursing school.

I think if he were smart he would go and beg mike holmgren or bill purcells for a coach. They both have great records.the cowboys need someone to lead them.

Parcells has been there, tried that and said "I'm outta here".  Holmgren has total control in Cleveland.   They want nothing to do with Jerry Jones.

He should stick with Jason Garret.  Give him a chance to prove he's got head coaching mettle.  Cause if he doesn't, somebody else will.   Jerry needs to step back and let the coach COACH and handle his own players.  Otherwise, he's going tom wind up like Al Davis of the last few years in Oakland.

Yeah, I know the raiders are doing decent now, but, thats only because they have a coach who the players believe in and like.  And it seems that Al has stepped back a bit and letting Cable run the team.    Cable has proven that he can coach.  Garret deserves the same opportunity without an owner being a monkey on his back.
