I stuck my thumb into a light socket to see if the power was on...

.. it was. It blew me off the ladder, and the thumb was very bright purple/black.

Makes one feel very small, doesnt it!. The other cool thing is that the light of some stars is so old and has been travelling for  so many light years, that the original source of of the light no longer exists. So by the time some alien sees our light we will probably be just cosmic dust!

Now for that thorny question: Creation v Big Bang theory (not the sitcom!)

Unique name, unique musician. I have always loved listening to, and playing his music. He's still playing live concerts, and appeals as much to the younger generatio, as well as my own (late 50 something!)

It seems to me that the US's problem now is not so much how to regulate gun sale and ownership, but how to deal with the 300 million weapons that are already out there, many in the hands of unidentified lunatics who have no respect for life. That is what breeds the fear that permeates American society.

As a non American, I can look dispassionately at this tragic debate. I love the poem by the way. In New Zealand we have the kind of gun control Obama can only dream of. Licensing is very strict, illegal ownership, and possession of firearms is severely dealt with by the courts.  police are NOT armed except in emergencies. Our scenario does NOT stop the odd nutcase  who decides to kill senselessly. But, the level of gun violence is much lower then the USA and by and large we feel very safe in our country. We can do better however, there are countries with less gun violence then NZ. All i can say is, the simple truth is - the more guns there are the more likely innocent folk will suffer for it, despite best intentions by many. Now- off my soapbox (at the risk of this post becoming too political)...but Phil started it with his wonferful poem, congratulations on your courage in writng it.

Hey Bushy, All the best from across the pond, You probably thought it was the end of the world after all, it's excellent news you have come through and on the mend.

We had Aussi-style temperatures here for Christmas day, getting up to 30 deg down here in Dunedin at the bottom of NZ.  I had to have some extra beers just to remain hydrated!!

Hopefully you will be able to "catch up" before too long. All the best

Sincere sympathy and prayers from everyone down here in New Zealand. A heartbreaking story. You would expect an elementary school to be a safe haven for little people to thrive and flourish as they yearn for learning.

Yet again the gun debate will rear its ugly head, and yet again only to disapear into the mire of apathy and indecision, and nothing will be resolved.

Or do what my son does for his rock band - rent a bit of space in a deserted warehouse really cheaply, in a location where noise dont matter. Add some accessories like a couch and a beer fridge, and its as  good as home!

A bottle of 1957 Bowmore single malt whisky, but given that it is worth about $200,000, I'll settle for a 12 year old Glenlivet at $60. Other than that i just want health and happiness for my friends and family.

For those of you that love celtic music with a folk/rock flavour, Runrig is is having their 40th anniversary concert 10 August 2013, on the Black Isle near Inverness. I cant wait - last saw them at Stirling Castle in 2003. Add some good whisky into the mix and it will a blast!

I agree with Jerome. I'm a Christian too but most modern music that goes under the label of "Christian' really is awful. (as with everything there are exceptions).. Most of it is "unspiritual" and is an attempt to dumb down rock/pop, give it some Christian lyrcs, so it will have mass appeal with the younger crowd in particular. It's commercialisation of the worst kind.

My daughter has just finished high school FOR EVER, so now she thinks she is an adult, and has no curfews or rules. WRONG!!. She hasnt yet realised that with adulthood comes adult reponsibilities and decsions. But i guess life experience is all about learning that for yourself, and even making a few mistakes along the way. At 57 I'm still doing that!!.

Michael Jackson- never was a fan when I was younger because he was played to death (excuse the pun) on commercial radio, but now I love playing is songs.

So I wonder how many Chordians around the world right now are looking at their hands to see if their fingers have stretched. It worked ith me!
Isnt it amazing - the power of the internet. I guess if you started a story that Scotsmen were prone to webbing between their toes because of the cold damp weather, youwould be surprised at the number of people who would believe it. Oh My God, my toes...

1. Mostly with a pick, as I'm usually looking for volume, and also I seem to have more strummming versatility when using a pick.

2. Usually over the hole. Up the frets gives you a lighter less mellow sound which is cool sometimes.

3. Yes

4. no

Yeh, there is never enough time for guitar play'n. Usually I'll get in an hour or so in the evening, or on a wet weekend. I'll make the most of any time when the rest of the family is out. Us and friends also have regular music party nights such as St Patricks Day (for Irish music), Robbie Burns birthday (for Scottish music, RB poetry, and whisky and haggis). My son has a very heavy rock band, so every now and then i take a trip down 1970's rock memory lane and join in on some retro stuff. As Astro says, you gotta make the music while u can.
