No problems with any police. We followed all the regulations on our busking permit, although it did say to busk on the guttered edge of the path but all the other buskers were playing on the shop side so we did as well. All we had to do was ask the shop keeper and that was it. We were thinking maybe to get some bongos to give a bit more of a beat. We are 14 so we don't look that young but my little brother who is 10 has a great sense of rythym and we were thinking about getting him to play as well, the only disadvantage of that is that we will have to share the money with him as well. :-)

This happens fairly often I think. I have a cheap copy of an SG but use Fender Bullets or D'addarios for strings and yet whats happening to you happens to me, but mostly high up the neck above the 12th fret.

Im not sure about my acoustic though I'll check. Yeah it happens with mine but only if you press really hard.

When I play bass in a jazz band at school i read the tab for the notes and the music for the rythym

We went busking yesterday downtown. We had to get a busking permit which was $10 but we made this back in about 5 minutes. We busked for 2 hours and made $76. We had to share it between us though. We both played guitar and didn't sing. Most of the time I played the melody and my friend played the chords. By far the most popular songs were sweet home alabama and the red hot chili peppers song snow ((hey oh)). We got about 17 2 dollar coins and 2 five dollar notes. All in all it was a sucsses and we are planning to do it again.

Yeah i think palying the guitar really helps. I could manage to do the foot hand thing. no-one in family has been musical yet my brother and I seem to be musical out of nothing. My dad is a genetisist (is that how you spell it?) and says that there must be a trait in either him or mum that has affected us. He puts it down to genetics.

Also I think that you can train yourself to be musical. My friend who struggled with guiatr for 2 years before meeting me when I was starting was still on the same level as me after 2 years. He then improved dramatically with me and now has a fantastic ear. I can play any note on the guitar an he can say whether its an E or an A or a Bb etc. Amazing.

Whats the difference between a banjo and an accordian?

A banjo burns brighter and an accordian burns longer.

hahahahahahahaha.

I was wondering how I should sing for some songs that my band has written. Our songs vary in style from funk, jazz, Metal and Grunge. Should I sing Nasaly or just sing normally?

Thanks, I might try to sing. We just need some classic songs to play that will grab peoples attention, we know a jazzed up version of 'I will survive' and I can just manage to reach the notes on ' Horse with no name'. We'll also play a few acoustic versions of songs that we have written nad we can just jam as well. Oh yeah, we'll play little wing as well, and mabye an instrumental version of 'sweet home alabama', are there any classic aussie songs that we could play? I tried playing some crowded house but it was just out of my range. Thanks for your help. I live in a country town with a population of about 45'000 and the main CBD is just 2 blocks. We've found a spot on one of the main streets outside a food bar sitting on a park bench, does this sound good?

My friend and I are a bit short of cash and thougt we'd have a crack at busking (we're 14). We both have steel string acoustics and can both play reasonably well. Are there any tips for songs or stuff for us to play. Neither of us can sing so we're relying completley on our guitars. Also are there tips you can offer on choosing a place to busk and special tricks to increase your chance of money?

Thanks.

You can also use the actual blues scale wich is almost exactly the same as the pentatonic. I'll give you an example in A

e - 5 & 8
b - 5 & 8
g - 5 & 7 & 8
d - 5 & 7
a - 5 & 6 & 7
E - 5 & 8

if you read closely she was actually laughing at the quote about hendrix it wasnt her saying it.

I am very open minded about music.
I dont think I can say there is one genre of music which I can catagorilly say I do not like.
but, I do hate dance music, rave music etc, even though I do like the prodigy and they I think are classed as dance, hmmm, maybe wrong?
I used to say I hated rap but I love eminem, dont like anyone else on that scene.

I dont like death metal but there are few song I do like.
I do love folk, rock and traditional mostly.
Blues is ok but too much is depressing ( in my view)
even some big band music and opera is not bad

hah thats pretty funny because blues music tends to make me feel good. If there is a type of music i cant stand its soft, pop rock. No offence but sometimes the christian comptempery just gets a little dull (sorry KramL :-P ). My favourite would have too be funk/rock.

I like wish you were here more than dark side of the moon because it is more guitar stuf and not as much electronic stuff.

That might be because pianos dont have frets? lol. I was going to say they didn't have strings but that isn't true. If you want to play the piano learn how to read music.

This covering on the back was an invention by gretsch inventor Jimmie Webster. It is a circular padded plastic, press studded pad, patented in 1963. It protects the finish from damage and hides the guitars control wiring.

Just a few questions about capos. When ever I'm not using my capo i clamp it on the headstock. I was wondering whether this has any effects on tonal qualities and sustain? I had another question but I just forgot it. umm. Ahh yes, is it okay to use an acoustic capo on an electric? cheers.

I've been reading some of your posts Detman and I think you should learn to play in standard tuning before you start playing in drop d. If you want tobe a better guitarist it will really help.
