That's really cool Guitarpix. Thanks for sharing. I'll be bookmarking that one for sure. iTunes has a similiar feature now too. It's called Genius. It's great for making playlists. You pick one artist and hit the Genius button and up comes a songlist of similiar tunes. There's also a side bar that gives you suggestions of other artist's you might like and songs or albums of that artist that you don't have. Ahhh, yes technology.......

I think a law should be passed that says that no one is allowed to pick up an electric guitar until they've done AT LEAST a year learning on an acoustic. And, furthermore ALL electric guitar players, regardless of style (including you shredders...you know who you are!) must be made to play an acoustic guitar at least once a month.
Even better, once a year, on a national holiday perhaps, all guitarists must play nothing but twelve string acoustics..blindfolded..on stilts.Playing an acoustic guitar hurts your fingers and hands and, when you're learning, can leave you feeling inadequate, especially when you watch the four-hundred mile an hour shredders doing their thing and your still struggling to hit an F chord (ah, the F!). You'll hit a stage where you're not getting any better. Just keep practicing and you WILL improve. It just takes time and finger ends of steel. Then, when you've finally got it, get an electric and a HUGE amp and play away, knowing that you've learned to play the right way.
I couldn't agree more shaunm. That's what I did.

Hey Kajima, I've tried that but in the ground, not in a container. Just dig a hole and keep adding dirt as they grow instead of hilling them. It's been so long that I can't remember if got more potatoes or not. 
But they sure were tasty. My favorite part of growing potatoes is digging out a few baby ones as the plant grows. Yum.
I was at my guitar store yesterday and I asked if that was Green Day they were playing. My guitar dude said yes and no. It was an album by the boys in Green Day but put out under another name, Foxboro Hot Tubs. Cool name. I couldn't remember the name, big surprise so I just googled it and found this entry under Wikipedia about this album and their new one coming out. Can't wait!

Green Day recently released a new album under the name Foxboro Hot Tubs entitled Stop Drop and Roll!!!. In an interview with Kerrang!, Billie Joe revealed that 2008 would "be a fair estimate of the release date of their new untitled eighth studio album."[35] In a recent interview with Carson Daly, Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson revealed that Butch Vig would be producing Green Day's forthcoming album.[36] In October 2008 Green Day returned to the studios with Butch Vig, to start recording the new studio album. Two videos showing the band in the studio were posted on YouTube.[37][38] In the tour section of the band's official website, the message "World Tour coming soon!" is shown.[39] In the December 9 issue of Alternative Press, in-depth details about the new album were released. I'd have to agree with Russel and the others about Bonnie Raitt, she's great singing as well as playing her slide guitar, she has a unique voice. Russel, The name of the John Prine song she sang was called "Angel from Montgomery" I was lucky enough to see them at the same outdoor concert back in 1976 in Galax Virginia, as well as many others there, it was a 3 day outdoor event great fun in the mountains of Virginia.

Wow, we're really digging up some great female performers and don't forget the post is titled "performers" not necessarily singers. That's why I put in Grace Slick and Janis Joplin, not my favorite singers either but great performers.
Hey buvvy, I just heard about Laura Nyro Friday night. Elvis Costello has a new show on called, Spectacle. Elton John was the guest. They sat and chatted about his love of music and who inspired him and who he got to play with in his early years. Elton was a HUGE fan of Laura's. They played some tunes as well with Elvis and his band. Great show. I have to check out this Laura Nyro now. Cool.
Yea baby! Badeye and Topdown, Kajima! Woo Hoo! Bensonp, Amy's good in my opinion. Her voice not her antics.

You're exactly right RavenLady. And American Idol brings a new dimension to the table. Overnight sucesses and then they get out on their own and can't make it. Although, some do, obviously. There seems to be too much out there all at once. Life was much simpler back then.
Thanks Bensonp. I was also thinking that the recording artist's from then weren't getting paid a whole lot and they had to get in and get out of the studio as quick as possible cause it was so expensive. They had to have something for radio stations to play so that record stores picked it up for inventory and they had to be out on the road supporting that album and getting known. They wasn't any music videos or internet. These days, thanks to the efforts of the first artist's, there are better record deals and publishing rights. You're not as likely to have a bad manager or agent take all your money too. Those first artist's paid dearly for just wanting to live the dream and have their music heard. To play live, to make music. Of course there was the sex, drugs and rock 'n roll dream too.

Maybe part of the reason it takes today's artist's so much longer to do an album is a few things.
A: In the 60's and 70's, even 80's everything was new. New style of music, instruments and recording techniques. So everyone felt that they were bringing something new to the table and didn't have to do something new, it all was!
B: There's too much technology now. Artist's use the studio more than ever. And the editing after the actual recording probably takes longer than the recording itself.
C: Everything's been done, so they're all trying to bring a new "sound" to the table.
You know what stikes me as odd about today's artist's and how they get a recording deal is this. Back in the good ole days, a band or artist had to play live to get their chops and pay their dues before they were even considered for a recording deal. So when they got to the studio they were seasoned and good musicians. Maybe this is D: they actually were musicians and artist's then, so it could go faster. Today the record execs just pick a pretty face or sellable feature and stick them in a studio with a writer, engineer, singing coach, producer and pump out a record. Not saying that there are no talented artist's now but you have to admit there is some pretty questionable artist's out there in all genres of music.

I have quite a big wood arbor, which is great to use. I usually hang quite a lot of baskets on there. Its also very pretty to look at

Your garden sculptures and other ideas are great Old Doll. I usually grow some arugula, spinach and other lettuce in a container each year too. I can even get a couple of crops by doing it that way too. And your tropical plant is the coolest! The flowers are gorgeous. Great job. Hope you had a great weekend!

Well God made Oregon for growing things... we have about 3/4 of an acre of tillable pasturage which in the past has produced enough variety to not only feed two families but most of the wildlife hereabouts. This year with the economy as it is, the old adage "waste not want not" will likely come forcefully into play. The wildlife that fattens on my gardening efforts might well find itself in the food chain. LOL
It is still early for plowing as it has been wet and still freezing most nights. The fruit trees are starting to bloom, which will hamper the yield again this season as the pollenators (bees) are not out in force. Our little orchard has several varieties of apple, pear, cherry, and plums, some hazelnuts, a walnut, and more weeds than I can kill in a weekend. Trimmed up the rose garden last weekend and some things are looking fine.... but a lot of effort yet to be made before the barbeque season starts. It's been too rainy to mow effectively, so if it doesn't dry out a bit soon I will enlist the neighbors sheep to trim the overgrowth a little.... two weeks of suffocks and romneys saves several gallons of motor fuel!
Remember the Victory Gardens!?!

Doug, we're in the same situation in Alberta. We've still got lots of snow on the ground. It's been a long cold, snowy winter here this year. And our springs are usually long and wet. They say to plant my Sweet Peas (package instructions) in April as soon as the ground thaws. Yea, right! I can't even see the ground yet!
But yes I remember the Victory Garden on PBS. Used to watch it every weekend. That along with This Old House. Thanks for the memory.
P.S. Zurf that's wonderful that you're instilling those values in your kids. Way to go!

That's awesome how many music lovers are lovers of gardening too, I've noticed. We just finished landscaping our new yard last year. All the big stuff. Fence, sod, deck, two flagstone patio's, beds etc over the past 2 years. Last year we planted lots of trees, shrubs and perennials. I started a little herb garden in a sunny spot. I have lots of hanging baskets and planters each year with annuals. And you know Ken you could water your planters if your wife doesn't? heh heh.....I added a rain barrel last year for all my annuals. It's great! I'd like to add more veggies this year. Nothing like going out to pick your own veg for dinner. I can't wait for this spring so I can actually just go out and garden. Enjoy our yard, sit back and watch it grow. No heavy landscaping.
