hi mate,
i guess it depends what sort of music you enjoy playing. when i started, i tended to play a lot of nirvana stuff and found that ti was worth buying a BOSS MT2 Metal Zone. it's a distortion pedal which i found useful for switching quickly to the distorted guitar bits on songs like 'smells like teen spirit.' because it isn't really very practical to poke the distortion button on the amp when you're in the middle of playing.
other than that, the cry baby wah wah pedal is a nice one if you're into a bit of solo work and jimi hendrix stuff.
</td></tr></table>
thx but im more into blues and classic rock than nirvana like stuff
im gonna hold off on effects till i can get a nice all tube amp
(probably a peavey classic 30 for Christmas

i started with just a squier by fender and a 15w amp.
now i use a 65w crate amp, a 50th anniversary series fender stratocaster, cry baby wah pedal and boss MT2 metal zone distortion pedal.
i'd like to get a mick thomson series b.c.rich just for show purposes because i think it looks sexy. i've heard quite a few negative things about b.c.rich though - apparently they're dead chunky and heavy

Re: screamin' and tube sreamers (1 replies, posted in Electric)
try boss sd-1 havent used one but i hear there good.
for screams first you need a lot of gain and a lot of volume
fret it anywhere but it works best on the 3rd string around the 7th fret for me.
use your neck pickup and pluck the string and immediately hit it with your thumb nail this produces the artificial harmonic
the bend it crazily and annoy your neighbors

hi i am glad your wanting to learn and play a guitar and purchase a electric i am a working musician and i own a music shop know let me tell u what the others hasnt, first off ur mistake is buying on line if u buy online you cant hold the guitar and u cant play it every guitar sounds and plays (feels) differant stay away from online buying, anther reason if u buy online for all you know the guitar could fret out on certain frets ( dead frets) neck could be warped its endless , i saw post that ibeniz and so on let me let u in on a little secret i sell a range of guitars at my store from 99.00 to 4000.00 depending on what u want to spend now heres the secrect listen close because u wont hear no one else tell u this my 99.00 guitars come from the same place as do my high dollar guitars all your buying is the name on that guitar i have more cheap guitars that play and feel better then my higher end guitars for instance i play out live in clubs about 5 days a week i play a cheap ellca guitar that runs around 110.00 tax and all i put new ernie ball strings on it and it sounds better then most of my high end guitars people when i play out cant beleive the sound of these guitars remember anyone can buy a gibson but if u dont play well they sound like crap anyways, but like i said most of these guitars out here in the music shops come from the same factory the same line just a dif name if u dont beleive me do some research because i know i am a dealer , anyways stay away from buying online peace out and keep rocking !
</td></tr></table>
dont listen to him
if you can find a better deal online then go for it
most sites have like a month long return policy so if you dont like the guitar you can send it back and get your money back
try either like a standard strat or tele or get an agile les paul or a epi plain top les paul

Tuning your guitar lower so the strings will be easier to barre against your fretboard is a cop out, and you'll be sorry in the long run. Not only will the instrument's action diminish, but also your ability to sing songs due to the deviant tuning. Standard pitch is set for a reason, folks. You can transpose, sure, and if you know theory, you can transpose a simple G chord into an accidental half way up the fretboard just so you can manage the pitch you need to sing a song, unless you want to use a capo, which you'll probably need to fret pretty high just to sing a long. Also, your strings will buzz if you strum too hard. If the differential between your strings and your fretboard is too far, you don't tune your guitar lower to solve the problem. What you do is you adjust either your guitar saddle, bridge, or both. This will bring your strings lower without sacrificing standard tuning. Careful, however, for if you decrease the differential too much, your strings will buzz against your fret wires. Also, when someone mentioned the mechanism for slide guitar, he/she meant glass bottle slides, which will leave your finger useless for chording. In short, the answer for questions of this nature are usually, "No. There is no easy way. Just practice."
</td></tr></table>
just for your information many of the greatest guitarist in the world tune down a half step or more, not for barre chords obviously but to get a heaveir chrunchier tone

Re: How Do You Interpret/ Finger These Chords (4 replies, posted in Acoustic)
it means like the same chord with a different base note
so like am/g would be
0
1
2
2
0
3
or d/f# would be
2
3
2
4
x
x

like spaminator said adjust your strings as low as they can go. As close to the fretboard as possible. It will make your bar chords much eaiser to hold and slide.
</td></tr></table>
when you say hold and slide are you saying sliding the bar chords or playing slide cus when you play slide dont you just touch the the strings not press them down
