VT is one of the best division II teams in the nation, for sure, but they have no business playing with grownups.

Stanford 40 - VT 12 surprised no one, except VT fans that don't watch football.

But I'm glad you're here to still prop up the almost obvious for me.  If Rogers plays like he did against Atlanta, Green Bay wins, but not only because of the numbers.  He's got that calm thing that makes everyone else around him better, too.

As an example of EVERY game, you may want to check out Peyton Manning's numbers against the 'Ain'ts last year, or Kurt Warner's against the Steelers a few years back.  Warner put up 3 TDs and 377 yards, and lost.  Manning put up something over 300, too, and came in second place.  Even poor old Jake Delhome managed a 3TD 300+ yard Superbowl against New England and came out on the wrong end.

Its why they play the games.  You should watch a couple of them.  It's exciting!

Nah, I'll stick with playing gigs and watching hotties in bikinis( now that's REALLY exciting) while irritating type A personality folks who are NEVER wrong about anything, just for snits and giggles...haha

This is a rhetorical joke.........

Jerome you guys have a pretty good team up your way in Washington who I exoect will make a lot of noise come tournment time.

The Husky program is usually fair to midlin.   We're generally happy with a tournament invite, and if we can win a few games, then that's considered success.   This year has been fun. They've lost a couple recently they could have won, but I guess that's why they play the games.

The local darlings are Gonzaga, though.  Thats another school kind of Duke like in that it is a very good school with a very good program.    They lack Duke's championship pedigree, but they're working on it.  smile

Comparing Conzaga to Duke is like comparing Ickey Woods to Walter Payton..........

Hi Selso,

I feel your pain with the divorce thing, that sux brother ! Holler at me anytime if you need to get things off your chest. As dark and painful your divorce seems, it would be a good idea to jot down your thoughts/feelings during this difficult time. 1) It's theraputic to write during times of rough, personal ordeals 2) You'll probably get a darn good song(s) from your words/thoughts..

As far a the musical "rut" you're finding yourself in at the moment my advice to you would be this; Don't think about it so much and go see a concert and/or some local live music. That always seems to work for me. Sometimes the people I see are so much better than me that it makes me wanna sell my guitars ( haha) but after my feelings of inadequacy fade then the inspriration sets in and I'm determined to become a better musician !!!!

All the best, hang in there Selso !!! The sun will shine soon......

Congrats Jeff ( topdown) to the N.C. State Wolfpack !!!  It looks like we're gonna have a rematch between the " overrated" VIRGINIA TECH Hokies for the ACC crown.

It's fun when 2 dudes (such as you and I) can talk football without deflecting inner insecurities and WEAKLY attempting to question others' knowledge of subjective topics (as unspecified LUNKHEADS have, and shall always do). I guess SOME people need to degrade others to feel better about their own skits in life (whatever floats the boats ????). Oh well, I digress....

If the second game ( NC State vs. Va Tech)is anything like the first meeting this season, we're gonna be in for a real treat....

All the best to you and yours,

SouthPaw41L

Hello Everyone,

Just made it back to civilization after a 25 day hitch in the outback of Wyoming. I am gonna play with my toys and chill out, this was one of the most stressfull things I have done for awhile. Hired out to a new company and they are very corporate and a big shock to my system.

Anyway my niece sent me this video this thing is huge !!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x6VhNCKw5Q

Awesome !! Hilarious !! Scared the ba-dookie out of me and my son. Thought it'd be funny to "trick" my wife, my really beautiful, smart wife that has one fear in life. ( yep, snakes !!) I touched the back of her neck as the snake in the video did its thing and I GOT POPPED RIGHT SMACK IN THE EYE !!!!

Thanks WAYNE !!!

Since 1892;
Va. Tech and Baylor have never played, not once. And the Hokies have played Duke 17 times in this time span. Duke won 7 of the meetings, Va Tech won 10. (ahem..)

The bottom line in college football is victories and bowl games. Since 1993 Va. Tech has never missed a bowl game. Correct me if I'm wrong but that'd be 17 straight seasons going to a bowl game. This feat is 2nd only to Florida State ( 27 straight ).... Hmmm?

Next issue, there is no denying, even by the "eternal arguing 'till blue in the face one that shall remain nameless ( hehe..)" here on Chordie that Virginia Tech is one of the top college football programs in the nation andw has been for quite some time. There are two teams that have won ten games or more in the past 6 seasons, one one which is Texas(9 times) and the other is Virginia Tech ( 6 times). The final score on the scoreboard is indisputable, period. And this poster will be the first to admit that the team I follow, always have always will, has been extremely lucky on numerous occasions ( especially this past week against a great N.C. State football team, much respect !!!) but a win is a win and over the past 17 seasons there ain't too many teams that can claim to have more wins than Va Tech.

Okay,so finally, enough about this poster and his passion for Va. Tech football !!!! ( haha, it's a family thing) I've been trapped and briefly maddened( not really..) by the infamous arguing machine here on Chordie( some things/people never change, it all good though,ahem...) but it's been fun and enlightening doing a little research between feedings, naps, yard work, 2 guitar lessons, and marinating some chicken for the grill tonight.

So do tell jerome.oniel, who is "your" NCAA team ?

ps... if you're ever in a Blacksburg, VA  area Radio Shack you might wanna consider a slightly different approach to the employees...(:J)

You're the coolest dude in the world right now Jeff !!

I'm gonna have to copy this fine piece of artwork and hang it on the wall in the man cave/sports/music room !

Pure class Mr. Taylor, pure class !

..... I love my Hokies !.......

Thanks Jeff and best of luck to the Wolfpack for the rest of the season ! N.C. State is a fine football team, Va. Tech was just a tad bit better today.

Top pros never bring music or notes onstage. If they don't know it, they don't play it.
I'm not a top pro but I have friends who, in my opinion, are. If I get onstage with them, I stick to tunes I know.                                              My fat book contains 400 plus tunes and I need it if I have to play more than the 50 or so tunes I remember well enough. I love to have access to all those tunes if I need to play requests and play a long evening alone. However, messing with a book can be frustrating and time consuming. Staring into a book instead of eyeballing the audience is unprofessional.
What if it is too dark to read or, heaven forbid, the book gets rained on?

Not totally true toots... Nowadays many "pros" are using teleprompters with their lyrics scrolling for every song. You notice how these folks have in-ear monitor systems AND floor monitors. The floor monitors are the teleprompters. Springsteen, Sting, Green Day, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews, etc... and many, many more of the top pros are using these devices. They go by the thought process of " it's better to have 'em and not need 'em than to need 'em and not have 'em.

And as far as the issues of darkness and/or rain, I use a music stand light and have all of my music covered with clear plastic, no glow sheet protectors.

Sounds great Wayne. We all know it's not the machine but the man instead. But when you have nice machines ( J-45) and a talented musician ( Wayne) it's the complete package. The harmonizer sound nice but PLEASE do not use a drum machine !!!! hahaha

After seeing Rhett Miller of the Old 97's play solo acoustic live I was amazed that one person could produce the same type of high energy that the entire band does.

Rhett Miller is my guitar inspiration. I have only been learning for about a little over a year and a half and I have a long way to go.

I come to this forum seeking advice and help(a lot). I do not know any other guitar players to bounce things off so it is helpful to toss a question or two out here and read the kind words of reply.

If you could please, watch this video and help me break down what he is doing. His strumming pattern is crazy to me but to more advanced players it may not seem so. Are there any little tricks he is doing to get that sound besides playing like a madman? Your thoughts and experienced guitar playing advice is appreciated.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYvctTRoutg

Good stuff nevets17 ! Rhetts' playing reminds me of some acoustic work Pete Townsend does/has done. The Old97's are a great band ! Don't let the negative input deter you from improving your playing. Rhett is fine player to model your style after, stick with it. And as far as the strumming pattern for this tune, it variates several times throughout but the "beef" riff is something like this;(v=down stroke u=upstroke) v-u-vvvvvvvv...... start out slowly and build up your speed as you feel comfortable......... ROCK ON Old 97's

Way to go Wayne !!! You're gonna be SOOO happy with the worlds' finest instrument ever made( in this posters' humble and extremely biased opinion!!). You might wanna have a few lint free clothes at hand when you play your first chords on your J-45 to clean up the drool !!!! Congrats my man !

The question is where have you gone? I still visit / check chordie everyday. I may not post as many questions - but that's because YOU are not here to answer them. Sure, I know.. a newborn kid and a toddler, lessons and a busy gigging schedule - no more time for us regular folks.

So - what is the strumming pattern to Margaritaville?

big_smile big_smile big_smile

You know where I am Jeff !!! haha And the strumming pattern you want is bash, bang, whack, thud, ker-plunk, bubble, bubble, bubble, bubble, bubble !!!

Wow! That's a beautiful instrument. I actually prefer the "faded" color to the original. Just out of curiousity, what's the asking price for this beauty ?

You should reconsider your asking price. These go for $ 180- $ 190 brand new.
