Welcome to the journey goonerandy. You will soon realise that there are many ways to play any chord. Maybe this is what you're seeing in people playing in different parts of the fretboard. This usually involves muting more that one string and can be a bit of a challenge for some. I'd concentrate on the standard chord shapes for now while adding a few new ones. Learning any instrument takes a long time so take your time, enjoy the journey and you'll learn a load along the way.

As for strum patterns - this is all about rhythm and finding the rhythm of the song. If you have to, sit and play the air drums to the song. This will let you find the rhythm. Once you have this - do it with one hand, your strumming hand, against your leg or something. Hopefully this will help you see what's an up or down beat. I know this sounds weird but it works for me.

All the best,

Al

I've often thought that this chart was just randomly generated list. Who knows?

I have a Yamaha APX500 and have found it to be an excellent instrument for a very reasonable price. It is a slightly smaller bodied guitar but I find the sound unplugged to have a lovely warm tone, although the smaller body reduces the unplugged volume a bit. When plugged in it sounds totally natural and with the on-board EQ you can easily adjust the sound and tone as required. The built-in tuner is also a big plus. Playability is one of the best I tried, and I tried a lot of more expensive instruments. Good action and with a slightly narrower neck whick suits my small hand. I love it.

Chordie does not directly host the songs that appear on the index. Chordie acts as a search engine and finds songs from other sites and then groups them all together. You would have to add your tab to another site, such as Ultimate Guitar or any other similar, and then add the URL to the chordie index using the resourses option.

Hi kj4257, unfortunately the copyright issue is one that won't go away. Since Chordie is a search engine which then displays song chords gathered from other sites it may still be possible to view them on the original sites. But copyright is a serious business and to protect this site it's felt that it's best to play safe and remove any songs from the index when requested to do so by the copyright holder. Better safe than see Chordie disappear.

Welcome to the forum, have a look around and please join in.

Cheers,

Welcome to Chordie, always2. I think you're right and it denotes a downward slide - I'd guess as far as you can until you hit the 5/7. You may have guessed I'm no expert on TAB.

All the best and I'm looking forward to more posts.

Cheers.

Pain is good. Keep at it and it'll pass, like everyone says.

APX500 is a nice guitar. Too nice to give up on.

The browser on the PS3 refuses to show the homepage too, Per. It'll display all the others but not the homepage.

What is this, the grumpy old man's corner?

OK, I've discovered that it is only the homepage that the PS3 has a problem with. I can still get into the forum and my songbook. Very cool. smile

Yes, Amy, the site was fine. It just seems that the internet browser used by the PS3 can't cope with the chordie site. Which is a shame cos it spoiled my fun sad

I tried to log in to chordie from my PS3 the other day and found that it was not possible. The page does kind of load but not everything is there. I thought it would be good to use this when there are folk in and wanting a sing song but it's not possible. Any reason why chordie won't load?

Wow. Fantastic. Man, I wish I'd been there. Hopefully next time. I'm really starting to slowly get back into the live music thing so I really hope I can get to a show in the near future. All the best, Mark, you've worked your socks off for this.

The edit button was removed a while ago. Don't know when or if it will be back.

Good luck on the run. Are you doing it in aid of a cause? Can we sponsor you? The Great Chordie Run.

I was at a gig a few weeks ago. The guy I went to see is a fantastic musician and has been gigging for probably 30 years. I happened to walk past him in the middle of a set and was relieved to see he had a folder, just like mine, with lyrics printed. Now, these are his own songs he's been playing for years but he still feels more comfortable with a word sheet close by, just in case. Made me feel a lor better.

Only thing I'd recommend is go to a decent store and play as many as you can within your price range. I tend to feel quite intimidated in guitar shops, if you're the same please try and put this aside and concentrate on the guitar you're holding. Stuff everyone else in the shop and try as many as you can. Oh, and set aside a full day for this excercise wink

So, where did you go and how'd you get on?

They do this all the time now, Roger. They're usually kept happy with a link in your description to the artists label, who usually have a channel on youtube. Most folk don't bother with a link though and I guess youtube have to issue these statements to cover their own backs with the copyright leeches.
