Times to Look Back on Jeff G

~

Intro - fingerpicking D

~

[D]Some days are strong

[D7]Some days are not

[D7]Some days I give you

[G]All that I’ve got

But [G7]never a day

Has [D]ever gone by

That I [A]haven’t wanted

You by my [A7]side

~

[D]Some days are weak

[D7]Some days are sad

[D7]Some days happy

[G]Other days mad

[G7]Countless days

And [D]countless hours

But [A]I still get by

You give me the [A7]power

~

[G]But don’t let me bring you [D]down

If I [A]mention my future [G]demise

[G]I never ever mean to [D]bring

[A]Tears to your beautiful [G]eyes

~

[G]Your eyes who’ve watched [C]over me

[G]Through good times and bad [C]weather

[G]Times that give me [C]belly laughs

I’d [C]never take back, [A]ever

~

[D]Some days I feel it

[D7]Some days I don’t

[D7]Some days it bothers me

[G]Others I won’t

[G7]Let my mind falter

Or [D]dwell on my fate

[A]Years of good living

I’ve got [A7]no room for hate

~

So[D] on days like this one

With [D7]low energy

[D7]Note that my talk means

[G]Not much to me

[G7]It’s just idle chatter

Flowing [D]out of my head

[A]Nothing to worry

Your [A7]beautiful head

~

So [G]don’t let me bring you [D]down

If I [A]mention my future [G]demise

[G]I never mean to [D]bring you

[A]Tears to your beautiful [G]eyes

~

Your [G]eyes who always watch [C]over me

[G]Through the times both thick and [C]thin

[G]Memories fond to [C]look back on

And I [C]visit again and a[A]gain [D] [G]

My Mind Wandering On Jeff Gilpin

~

Intro D A D A D A G

~

[D]Last night I [A]went out walking [D]

Thinking thoughts a[A]bout our talking [D]

Got me down a[A]bout it all then [G]

[D]Manage to a[A]vert my thinking [D]

Went there [A]without blinking [D]

To a path [A]without slinking on [G]

My [Em]mind wandering [A]on

Could be [Em]words to a [A]song

Or [Em]music I hum a[A]long

[G]Mmmmmm

~

[D]I know my [A]mind will wander [D]

To those [A]time down yonder [D]

Thoughts and [A]dreams I ponder [G]

[D]Amounts to a [A]bunch of nothing [D]

Settles my [A]thoughts a rumbling [D]

All comes [A]down to something [G]

My [Em]mind wandering [A]on

Could be [Em]words to a [A]song

Or [Em]music I hum a[A]long

[G]Mmmmmm

~

[Bm]Something a[A]bout how the [G]mind works

[Bm]Creative [A]twists and [G]turns

[Bm]Mostly [A]good though [G]some hurt

[Bm]Lessons [A]learned and [G]yet to be [A]learned

~

Solo D A D A D A G

~

[D]About then I [A]turn the corner [D]

Like my path my [A]thoughts are turners [D]

Over hills and [A]then down under [G]

[D]People [A]passing by me [D]

Saying hey but [A]really not seeing [D]

Who they are or [A]what they really [G]think

My [Em]mind wandering [A]on

Could be [Em]words to a [A]song

Or [Em]music I hum a[A]long

[G]Mmmmmm

~

Repeat chorus and end on D

beautiful sentiments Jeff, you lightened my mood with this. The street where I live is always jam-packed with cars that don't belong here, so I took Ann just a mile away, 5 minutes tops, and by the time I got back some **** has jumped in my parking space, so I was fuming coming on line, I read your poem and felt better, then I read what I've just written and now I'm ready to kill again, metaphorically of course. I'd better read your poem again...

Hey Phill - Thanks - I hate it when something comes along to ruin my day. Don't let the rabble bring you down my friend. Remember, it's never the chomping alligator that gets you. It's usually all the nibbling ducks. Don't let the nibbling ducks get you....Something my father used to say, of course, he never lived in swampy areas so usually alligators were no threat other than on the occasional visit south of Lake Ponchartrain.

Low energy day for me, but we still had a bunch to do so I helped knock out enough and then called it a day. This came to me after getting some of what we planned to do today done.

Time to Look Back on

Some days are strong
Some days are not
Some days I give
All that I’ve got
But never a day
Has ever gone by
That I haven’t wanted
You by my side

Some days are weak
Some days are sad
Some days happy
Other days mad
Countless days
And countless hours
But I still get by
You give me the power

But don’t let me bring you down
If I mention my future demise
I never ever meant to bring
Tears to your beautiful eyes

Your eyes who’ve watched over me
Through good times and bad weather
Times that give me belly laughs
I’d never take back, ever

Some days I feel it
Some days I don’t
Some days it bothers me
Others I won’t
Let my mind falter
Or dwell on my fate
Years of good living
I’ve got no room for hate

So, on days like this one
With low energy
Note my talk means
Not much to me
It’s just idle chatter
Flowing out of my head
Nothing to worry
Your beautiful head

So don’t let me bring you down
If I mention my future demise
I never mean to bring you
Tears to your beautiful eyes

Your eyes who always watch over me
Through the times both thick and thin
Memories fond to look back on
And I visit again and again

I wrote this as a poem yesterday and decided to turn it into a song so here it is. https://soundcloud.com/jets60/across-the-equator

Across the Equator Jeff Gilpin

~

Intro fingerpicking G

~

[G]I’ve never had the chance to travel

A[D]cross the equator

[C]I’ve spent my whole lifetime

In the [G]northern hemisphere

It’s [G]not for fear of traveling

Or a [D]lack of desire

I’ve just [C]never gotten the chance to travel

A[D]cross the e[G]quator

~

[G]Maybe someday I’ll get to travel

To the [D]southern hemisphere

And [C]go and see the places there

And [G]meet people there too

I’d [G]love to share with all of them

The [D]stories that I know

And [C]maybe I’ll learn what’s going on

A[D]cross the e[G]quator

~

I'm [D]sure a lot I learn will a[G]stound me

And I’m [Em]sure I’ll learn things that I never [G]knew

I’m [D]sure they'll teach me things

That I’ve [G]never even considered

And [C]maybe I could teach them something [D]too

~

[G]If I get the chance to travel

A[D]cross the equator

[C]I’ll keep my eyes wide open and

My [G]mind wide open too

The [G]other side of the world is

Just a [D]side I’ve never tried yet

But [C]one day I hope to travel

A[D]cross the e[G]quator

~

Repeat chorus & last verse

repeat last two lines of the verse to end

fade fingerpicking G

Something I wrote today. Might just turn it into a song...we'll see.

Across the Equator - Jeff Gilpin

I’ve never had the chance to travel
Across the equator
I’ve spent my whole lifetime
In the northern hemisphere
It’s not for fear of traveling
Or a lack of desire
I’ve just never gotten the chance to travel
Across the equator

Maybe someday I’ll get to travel
To the southern hemisphere
To go and see the places there
And meet people there too
I’d love to share with all of them
The stories that I know
And maybe I’ll learn what’s going on
Across the equator

I'm sure a lot I learn will astound me
And I’m sure I’ll learn things that I never knew
I’m sure they'll teach me things
That I’ve never even thought of
And maybe I could teach them something too

If I get the chance to travel
Across the equator
I’ll keep my eyes wide open and
My mind wide open too
The other side of the world is
Just a side I’ve never tried yet
But one day I hope to travel
Across the equator

Hey Jim - I finally got some time to check out your new song. I enjoyed the chords and the lyrics. Reminded me of the days when the great songwriters were finding themselves and polishing their craft. To me, when I tried it out it, I played it relaxed and unforced. Well done. I'm looking forward to hearing your recording so I'll know how close I came.

Here's a song I wrote a while back (2/18/2021) and finally got around to recording. https://soundcloud.com/jets60/sometimes-i-feel-1

Sometimes I feel Jeff Gilpin

~

Intro fingerpicking G

~

Some[G]times I feel that

I [Em]don’t know what I’m doing

And I [G]worry that all I’m doing

Is [D]coming out all wrong

Some[G]times I feel that

[Em]Everything I’m doing

Is [C]not going to workout

When [D]I get to the [G]end

~

But [D]then I get going

And I feel [Em]better

So I [G]keep pressing on

And [D]start hit my stride

[Em]Then I feel like

I can do [G]anything

[C]Anything at [D]all

~

Some[G]times I feel that

I [Em]don’t know where I’m going

[G] Like I’m just sitting there

And [D]spinning my wheels

Some[G]times I feel that

No [Em]matter which direction

I [C]turn will be the wrong way

And end up [D]stuck at a dead [G]end

~

But [D]then I get going

And I feel [Em]better

So I [G]keep pressing on

And [D]start hit my stride

[Em]Then I feel like

I can go [G]anywhere

[C]Anywhere at [D]all

~

Some[G]times I feel that

It [Em] isn’t worth the effort

That [G]all the sweat and blood

I put in will [D]never be enough

Some[G]times I feel that

The [Em]harder that I try

I [C]fall further behind

Until I’m [D]back to the be[G]gin

~

But [D]then I get going

And I feel [Em]better

So I [G]keep pressing on

And [D]start hit my stride

[Em]Then I feel like

I can do [G]anything

[C]Anything at [D]all ... [G]
