Jeff Healey was a master at lap playing. Strum , slide, fingerpick, just amazing.

I know nothing about slides but I do know a little about metal. Copper is very soft. I would think that your guitar strings are harder than copper therefore the slide would wear very fast. I'm surprised that you found brass slides as brass is very soft also. But being as how brass is used for wind instruments I would guess that it has good sound qualities. Copper probly not so much. That's my 2 cents.

Good decision, but be careful when withdrawal sets in. If you don't have an addictive personality you'll be fine. If you do then you need to focus on something different, just like you have decided to do. Way to go!!

Hello all!!!

I was at Downtown Disney last night and happened to stroll by the House of Blues there. The dude playing out front was tearin it up. Brother Yusef was his name. Very cool guy, soulful, and talented. It was just him, a plugged in guitar, and a tambourine around his ankle. Check him out:

So now I've decided to search out more live music in my town.

I read somewhere that she said she didn't ask to be a superstar, she's just a musician. Just because you didnt ask for it doesn't mean that it won't happen. She played the stereotypical rockstar very well. Drugs alcohol, fights with fans, the whole bit. It caught up with her in the end.

No coffee for me just a super cold glass of iced tea.

Try this little treat:

Hot tea, little milk, little sugar, then dip an Oreo in, let it get a little soft then eat. UMMMMM!!

Someone has posted this before. Would be a very cool tool if they ever get it finished. It's been in beta at the same stage for quite some time now.

I just tried a few and everything is there, transpose pull down and chord grids. Maybe you found a bad one.

I recently came across one that I physically cannot do. I can sorta get it on the low end of the neck but up at the ninth like the vid says is impossible. My fingers just don't stretch that way.

I use these two to warm up:

They're simple but my darn pinky needs to be re-taught every time I play. He doesn't listen very well.

I just scanned all the songs from Amy's post. Everyone that I just listened to better not have said they were a beginner in the "how do you rate yourself musically" thread. You ARE NOT beginners. You kinda make us feel bad. If a beginner sounds like that, then I just plain suck. I didn't check each name and their rating, but go ahead and change your rating to intermediate, good, or something like that.

To be able to sing a song and play it you must be able to play it without thinking about it first. Once you have the rhythm and strumming down then add the singing. If you have to think about chords, strumming, and lyrics all at once you will never get it.

Keep at it and you'll get it down.

I'll throw something else out here. Sometimes when I'm playing a faster tempo song I sometimes fudge my chord changes so the last up strum sorta has a buzz to it. Seems to happen mostly when I scratch, mute, chop, whatever you want to call it. Anyway, my point is that maybe it could be a playing thing a not a guitar thing.

I don't know how you're set up, but you can try a sheet magnifier. It's like a flat paper size magnifying glass.

Welcome Bill!!!

You might have gone in the wrong direction with the truss rod and saddle adjustment. To get it back to normal you might have to undo your tweaks. Has the guitar been exposed to any temp/humidity changes? Listen to Pix, he knows what he's talking about. You need to try and isolate the buzz first.

Good luck!!

If this Virginia fellow would stop planning his July jam on the Shenandoah or his August jam in Meadow Creek, then maybe the package would see some more miles. He could also make some time for it by not dealing with Chordie spammers or trying to lose weight.

Love ya Zurf!!!

I think certain people just have "charisma". A presence that others look at as confidence. I can only guess that it gets better the more you do it.

DJ, you are where you are in your guitar journey. Look at where you were 2 years ago. You've learned lots and there is still lots to learn. It doesn't matter how good you get, you always look at others and think they're better. As long as you like it and are having fun. Don't compare yourself with others, everyone is different. Did you put a time limit on your goal? If so, what does it really matter?  Maybe it will take you 2 more years before you think you're good. So be it. If you continue then you will accomplish.

Wow that's a pretty cool gadget. They should make the tuner part rotate so you could see it easier.

Welcome to Chordie Jaycee!!!

Deadstring said it all. The "small" F as it is sometimes referred to will get you by until your fingers are strong enough for barre chords. Really tho, if you think about it, this is a barre chord. You are barring the 1st and 2nd string with your index finger.

Good luck!

Isn't it crazy how things like that happen. If you had tried, it wouldn't have worked out.

Have fun with the fishies and a little guitar drooling.

Hi All!!!

This might belong in the electric section, feel free to move it.

Most of us here are strummers. So of course we can play and sing a song thru. I just watched a lesson vid on Rainbow in the Dark by Dio and it got me thinking. The vid is teaching lead, all the licks and riffs. My question is can you play a song the whole way thru with just a lead electric guitar? Hope that makes sense.

Funny, everyone doubts their abilities. I bet each and every person that has posted is better than they think they are.
