Try making a clockwise circular motion with your right foot and then making a counter-clockwise circular movement with your right hand. Look what happens.
If you can achieve this you are a freak. lol

Always good to know that women's bottoms are never far from the mind on chordie.

I'm guessing it's the whole concept of Christian music that adnek55 is saying is being misunderstood. By whom, I don't know.
I think one of the problems is that a great deal, in fact A VERY GREAT DEAL of Christian music is written by Christians FOR Christians. So is there a case for - if you're not in on it then you don't get it? I can understand that to a certain degree but I think the original point was that it was the actual music that was dull, not the philosophy of it. And unless you are in the heat of the moment, as it were, then the emotion and spirituality of the WHOLE THING is kinda lost.

I have found myself, at times, moved while singing what can only be described as a dirge. You know the kind of hymn that talks of great joy while singing what sounds like a funeral march. And yet there I am filling up and brimming over. That's hard to explain.

So I can inderstand where adnek is coming from but it still doesn't change my view that a lot of contemporary Christian music is awful.  But let's not forget there is a ton of mainstream music out there that is also total dross. Musically and lyrically speaking.
Surely we've all listened to a song and cringed at how bad it is. Christian or not.

Usually I gravitate onto the forum when I've just finished checking out a song from the BIG CHORDIE LIST or practicing one from my songbook.

So my question is - what song were you just working on?

Just out of interest.

Here here. You can't let the hurt out if your fingers are all in the wrong place.

lol

That's the stuff. The way I see it, most folk start playing because the get gifted a guitar or their mates play so they get a duffer and start messing about for the fun of it. I don't know anyone who says to themselves - right, I'm gonna learn the guitar so I better go and spend a few hundred samolians.

Turnips are best cooked rare, with the blood still oozing! lol

Yeah I was taking the exchange rate into account. I'm just a tight fisted Scotsman. I'll never forget that £7 nylon string classic. It was held together with black adhesive tape. Honestly. But it did me proud for a year or so. I learned a lot on it and it got the bug started.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you are eager to learn then you don't need to splash the cash to get started. However once you do get started and the bug bites that's when you start to look at better instruments. £200 will get you a decent beast.

That's not to say that I don't look longingly at the Gibsons and Simon Patricks on the wall when I'm in the store.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think the prices you've mentioned are all that cheap. My first guitar cost £7 from a church sale, my next cost me about £50 and is now onto it's 3rd owner.

Learn the song by strumming it 1st. Then as you get to know the song well you'll start to hear for yourself what string is doing what.
Just to complicate matters, the artist in question may be adding in some extra finger movements on top of the chords, so concentrate on getting the strumming right first.
Well.............that's what I do anyway.

I have an electro-acoustic with a piezo pickup a find that if I crank the GAIN knob on my amp (it's a very simple amp) all the way to max and the volume not too high it sounds like what you're looking for. Watch out for serious feedback if you go too loud on the volume. Keep the bass fairly low and the treble mid to high.
Works for me.

Cheers man.
Those links will come in handy too.
My problem most of the time is remembering the words. Not my strong point. I was playing a few songs one night and my brother started singing along and in most songs he was word perfect. And I know he hasny heard these songs for years. How he does it I don't know. He also plays the pipes and plays all tunes from memory. I must've mised out on the memory gene.

Pick one of your favourite songs and play it using barre chords instead of open.

Hey, Ken, do you have a collection of trad scottish folk songs? I've been looking for stuff for ages.

Too dang lazy to transcribe them myself.

Marty McFly again. lol

I think you'll find that "devine right of monarchs" died with the Jacobites.

Sorry Ken. I'm sure you understood what I meant. Historically speaking.

I feel like Marty McFly here. I must've stumbled across an 18th century argument here.

It is pleasing, however, to know that there are people in the USA  who are aware that other countries exist. Please don't take that the wrong way. America is such a huge country that it's very easy to be mildly aware of small countries like mine and yet have no understanding of them whatsoever. There are shades of this in a few post here referring to the Queen of England. I am not English yet she is still my Queen. I'll not bother explaining this: it's a long story.

Once upon a time you used to be able to upload your own pictures into threads. Seems those days are past now, and in the past they must remain.

Spruce top. Nato back and sides. Rosewood fingerboard. Action is sweet. Nice n low with no buzz. As I say all these guitars are very well set up before they go on the wall. I love mine to bits.

Think how dangerous baseball would be if you could bounce the ball just in front of the batter(?). That's cricket. Still bores me rigid though.
