SD3, remember the cabin is pressurized the cargo area is not. As a pilot, I'm sure you get to carry your guitar on board with you so you can keep it safe - JUST - be sure to loosen up those string a few turns prior to take-off. It's a whole lot easier to retune everything than to have your guitar going snap, crackle and pop during your flight.

Cam, me thinks ya should consider becoming a drummer. With trying to keep both hands and both feet moving all together you won't have time for all them deep thoughts to occupy your mind.

Does'nt this chord pattern get overused again and again

I     V    VI    IV

its in almost every pop song u hear on the radio

i prefer this altenative

I    V     VII     IV

Is the 1st pattern you mention a 1..5..6..4 pattern such as G..D..Em..C..G?
If so try it as 1..6..4..5..1.  G..Em..C..D..G

Is the alternative pattern a 1..5..7..4 pattern such as G..D..F#dim..C..G? Or should it have been - 1..5..57..4.  G..D..D7..C?
If so try it as 1..4..5..57..1.  G..C..D..D7..G.

Or have I had way too much to drink, today? The way I was taught was that any 7th chord will always lead you back to the 1 chord (key).

I have a Takimine Jumbo Acoustic / Electric and it has a fantastic sound with or without the amp. The purpose of an acoustic / electric to to get more volume and project your sound better. There are a few ways to get that sound from a regular acoustic guitar such as a sound hole pick-up, playing thru a mike or having a pick-up(s) installed in your guitar. If you decide to play your guitar thru a mike its better to do this while sitting down as this set-up does not allow for much movement on your part. The heart of an acoustic / electric is the amp (and the settings) you play thru. A regular electric guitar amp will work but a acoustic or keyboard amp will really bring out the acoustic sound better. One drawback with an acoustic / electric guitar is feed-back thru the amp. The cure is a sound hole plug. (It really works). If you decide to purchase an acoustic / electric just remember that the quality of sound will be much improved by the right type amp and this will add to the cost of your set-up.

Now if I just knew how to use it!

Yesterday afternoon there came a knock on my office door. It was a sub-contractor bearing a little gift. He had seen my hollow body Ibanez electric guitar sitting in my office and said I think you might be able to use this since I have 2 of them. It was a RP50, DigiTech Modeling Guitar Processor. Since he was leaving on a 2 week vacation and was late for another appointment he did not have time to say much more than "ENJOY". This unit was brand new, still in the box, and had all the instructions so I guess I just gotta spend a little time with it. This thang has 2 foot switches, a tuner, 40 User presets, 40 Factory presets, a drum machine and a whole bunch of other stuff. I'ma gonna give it a try but I have never used anything like this before. Does anyone out there in Chordieland have any experience with the processor? If'n you do please share your knowledge.

If you decide to take lessons they can be very valuable to you. BUT, be sure to pick the right teacher. I had 2 different teachers that I just wasn't satisfied with so I moved on. One teacher was more interested in showing me what he could do with a guitar rather than teach me the 2nd teacher brought a bango to my 1st lesson and said "it's bluegrass or nothing". Take a little time and think about where you are with your playing and where you want to go. If you want to learn basic chords, chord progressions, how to strum, how to keep timing, how to play rythem or how to play lead have that decided before you commit to the lessons. Remember, at the 1st lesson you are interviewing the teacher. Find out their style, their way to teaching. Let the teacher be aware of your ability. Don't be shy in telling the teacher what you want to learn.

I know all of us have some tips and tricks we use that could be helpful to others while we are playing our music but I haven't seen anything like this on this forum. So here goes.

Have you ever had problems with the "button" hole in your guitar strap being worn and loose? Its come off real easy and could cause your guitar to fall to the floor? A easy fix (temporary) to safeguard this is to use the little plastic tabs used to seal the bags on a loaf of bread. After you put the strap over the (each) button you clip the plastic tab over the button and it won't let the strap come off. Simple, easy and dirt cheap.

Who's next with a Tip or Trick?

Zurf, glad to know someone is getting to make a great trip like yours sounds. Wish it was me, going. So, you gonna release the trout and eat the catfish. Hmmmm, we release the catfish and use the trout as bait. Just kidding. But, I do release most of the catfish I catch. I spent 30+ years fishing bass tournaments and now I try to fish catfish tournaments when I can. We keep enough small catfish to eat but the big-uns gets to live and fight another day. Our largest Mississippi Bluecat to date was just 93 pounds. (all on rod and reel)

Fishing during the day - relaxing and enjoying life at night - IT JUST DON'T GET BETTER THAT THAT!

Possum, you did not mention your age. BUT, it don't matter. All you need to start is a desire. I started playing at the tender age of 54 and if I can do it so can you. Take things slow, learn the basics, (open chords are a good place to start) find you a decent guitar to begin practice - doesn't need to be an expensive guitar, find you some beginner books and CD's and just get started. Always remember - even a baby has to learn to crawl before they can walk. You will not start making music overnight. You will get frustrated, you fingers will get sore, you will start finding excuses not to practice, etc, etc, etc. Stick with it, set you some goals ( and a good teacher or this site will help) and get started! "Nuff said.

I know what you mean accidents and children. My youngest bumped into the rear of a lady (someone we knew) and scratched her bumber. A cop saw the accident but refused to issue a ticket since everyone was friendly and the damage was so slight. We told the lady that we would pay to get the scratch fixed and to just bring us an invoice. She did that, we paid $171.00. Next thing we knew we were being sued for medical damaged. She won - our insurance company paid out $50,000.00 - my son's insurance was canceled. Go figure. I guess thr right law suit is easier to when than the lottery.

To everyone. I never said using a cell phone or any other device, while driving, was a good thing. What I said was "Where will it end". No one has shown me the difference between dialing a phone number or selecting a radio station, changing a CD, setting your AC/heater controls, or drinking a cold drink, ect, ect, etc. Are these good thing  - NO! All these things require you to take your eyes off the road and your hands off the steering wheel. Is that safe driving - NO!
Do we do any or all these things (and others) while driving - YES! And don't anyone say that while driving they place 100% of their attention on the road. It just don't happen. Are there responsible drivers out there who can do any of these things while driving - I think so, but still not a good thing. What is the answer - I don't know.

I'm 57 years old - driving since I was 14 years old (raised in the country). Drive 40,000+ miles a year, only 4 traffic tickets since I been driving, never in an accident that I caused. Does this make me a safe driver - APPARENTLY NOT!

Sunriaz, you hit the right spot for information. There's a whole lotta good stuff here for you. You want some easy songs to learn - well what type of music do you like? For a biginner I would suggest learning the chords and sticking tp playing rythem until you develope hand strength and toughen up your fingers. Scales and modes aer VERY important to learn but try to get the basics down first. There are thousands and thousands of songs out there that only require 2 or 3 chords. And the good thing is you can transpose any song to the chords you know. If you only know 3 open chords, say G, C and D you could play forever. Now that would get a little boring but it could be done. Learn the open position chords - G, C & D or D, G & A or A, D & E. These are the simplest chords to learn to use. Once you are able to make and change chords easily you will be ready to move forward. Don't rush yourself, either. Study hard, practice hard and learn correctly.

Old Doll, I hear you when you say "whats so important about telephone calls" that they can't just wait. To me, I believe it is about the almighty $$$$$$$. I am a vice president for a construction company and must spend quite a bit of time driving. Any time you are driving it's just dead time. Without a way to either contact other people or have other people contact you a lotta business is missed. If I miss a call it is possible I could loose a project worth a whole lotta money. Is that worth hurting or killing someone in an auto accident - NO! But people are gonna use the phones regardless. I am presently working in California where they just recently banned all hand held cell phone use. Is it working? That depends on how well you can hide your phone while driving. As I drive around town I still see people with a cell phone in their ear. I see people driving while trying to adjust the earpiece to their phone. I have been using my phone as a handless unit but I do admit the ear piece is very annoying. I remember a long time ago when all the talk was about how the cell phone, laptop computer and pager were going to make our work easier. Well, it has not made work any easier for me. All it has done is force me to work longer hours just to keep up with what's going on each and every day.

This thread started as a different topic and (I guess it's my fault) gradually sliped to seat belts and cell phones. Am I against safety - NO, not by any means. My rant is "Where will it end"!
I got my 1st cell phone when there were very few of them available. You had to constantly update your roaming area every few miles just to be able to use the thing. I have not had an accident nor have I came close to having an accident while driving and talking on a phone(knock on wood). How many of us smoke? (I used too) Many times while smoking I would reach up with 2 fingers to take the cigarette outta my mouth only to have it stick to my lips and my fingers would knock the fire off the end onto my lap. (Poor Little Willie) At those time I have done some serious "trick driving". There are many more distractions out there that I believe are more serious than cell phone use while driving. Just the other nite, while stopped at a red light behind some IDIOT"S I got to watch part of a porno movie thru the back window of their Escalade. That's what I call dangerious! It was all I could do to stay behind them so I could see the rest of the movie.

Dat's wut I'm sayin'. Where will it end? I'm not against good judgement or safety. Hands free use of a cell phone is a good thing. So is the seatbelt law. Now what would you do if next week you was told that driving your car while listening to a radio (or CD) was in violation of a new law.
You just stopped for gas and as you left the service station you bought a cold drink and a bag of 'tater chips. As you were driving away, and nobody was looking, you reached over and turned on your radio (real sneaky like cause it's against the law, now) and the 1st thing you hear is that drinking a coke and eating 'tater chips while driving is against the law. Hmmmm, where will it end?

And somebody please tell be what the difference is in holding a cell phone up to your ear while talking and holding a CB radio mike up to your mouth and talking> I don't understand 'dis one.

This mess all started years ago when, for safety reasons, they removed the dimmer switch's from the floorboards of all cars and placed the switch on the turn signal. This smart move really cause a lotta accidents as it took awhile for some people to learn that they could dim their lights with their hand and not have to use their foot. Sometime's change is not a good thang.

Ok, so ya'll don't like people using cell phones. Why? Where will it stop? Will the radio be next? CD player? What about the air conditioner? The defroster? You ever had to take your hands off the wheel just to blow the horn. Will that be next? What about life's greatest pleasures - picking your nose or scratching your a**? Is that soon to against the law? Hmmmm, better look at the dash to see just where the light switch is cause it's getting dark, hope thats not breaking the law.
What about driving to work each and every morning and seeing women putting on make-up? How many of ya'll drive down the road drinking your morning coffee? How about a cold drink? Eating a candy bar. Talking to someone in the back seat? Better not take my eyes off the road to check my rearview mirror - could cause an accident.

NOW - don't get me wrong. I'm not against safety. I got my 1st cell phone in 1994 when there were very few people using them - and I did get some strange looks while talking and driving back then. I just can't see any difference in using a phone while driving than searching for a good listening radio station. NOW I do have a problem with driving and text messageing, reading a newspaper, putting on make-up, people driving with a dog sitting in there laps. Everyone should be responsible for there actions but they are not.

How many of ya'll know just how this law came to be. Or the seatbelt law? Simply by the insurance companies lobbeying our trusted lawmakers to get laws passed because they think they may have to pay additional claims for accidents. It's about the $$$$$ insurance companies have to pay out and not about people being hurt or killed. The insurance company buy's off a congressman and poof a new law is born. Did you get to vote on this law? Were you just told this is the way it's gonna be so you better like it? What else are we gonna loose?

Did ya'll know some people are make a whole lotta $$$$$ selling the hands free units? How much of that do you think is getting passed along "under the table"?

Yes, making cell phone be hands free could be a great thing. My rant is where will it end?

Nela

Gotta go and buy some stock in the hand free accessories market.

It's always best to be able to put your hands on what you buy. If at all possible try to play those guitars, and others, prior to your purchase. Whatever you do never spend more that you can afford but buy what you want. We can all make recommendations to you but you are the one who has to be satisfied. If you buy a guitar just because it's a good deal or because ole NELA say's to buy it you are taking a chance. I've learned from past experience that those GOOD deals sometimes come back to bite you right in the butt. Do your homework, ask your questions, touch-em, feel-em, hold-em and then make up your mind. I do have a buddy who plays a Washburn D42 and he loves it. Good luck on buying your guitar.

Man, I feel for you. I quit drinking several years ago when I discovered just how much $$$$$ I was pi**ing away. I never drank because I needed a drink but since my work keeps me away from home so much I always ended up somewhere with a drink in my hand. Being away from home, I didn't have anyone to call if I needed a ride and I took more chances than I should have. I never was stopped and don't believe I was ever driving when I was outta control BUT, like you, I probally could not have passed a breath test. Kinda glad I give it up - also gave up smoking so I guess I'm doing ok. Best of luck to you.

James, when I mentioned a "Chat Room" I was talking about a separate "room" where we could go to and visit with other members all at once. It's done of some other site's I visit and gives you the opportunity to actually talk (type) back and forth with other members. Just a thought.

Nela

The list of "Rules" listed above makes "Excellant" use of the "Common Sense" we should all use on this forum. Would it be possible to have EVERYONE have where they are from listed, as well.
Also, would it be possible to have some type of CHAT ROOM for members to sit around and discuss life's issues as they boccur?

I am of the age that can remember not having a tv and having to listen to radio at night for entertainment. Back then there was only 1 kinda music - COUNTRY. Then came, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Carl Perking, Buddy Holly and yes Johnny Cash. Rock N Roll. To me thats the 2 type's of music that counts - old time Rock n Roll and ole time Country. (Make it 3 types as I forgot the ole time Blues)This is music you can listen to and enjoy. I've never understood Metal, Disco, Grunge, Heavy Metal, or Rap. But that's just me and if you like it - I'm ok with that. I want music I can enjoy and relate to. It could be because that was ingrained in me at an early age but that is what I like. Yesterday's music will never be able to thrive in today's world. The producers only want what they think will sell regardless of what the artist want to put out for the public. Today's producers can make or break an artist simply by putting out their records. The producers work together on this and once the word is out a artist does not have a chance. If the named producers won't produce the artist the radio stations will not play them. The music industry is not about the music anymore - it's about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
