I always find that when I play Ace of Spades it always comes out as a country version. Always puts a smile on my face, the thought of Lemmy dueting with Dolly or something.

Hee hee. Nice weather for us going into the great outdoors, eh? Sounds good.
They do say a Jura funeral is better than an Islay wedding.
Never been to Jura but have friends on Islay. Haven't been over for a long time.
Enjoy!

Re: Embarrassing Moments (43 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'll keep this short, but suffice to say that last year I drunkenly (isn't it always?) managed to lock myself out of my flat in nothing more than a pair of boxer shorts....my masterplan to get back in then resulted in me being outside of my building when the front door also slammed, leaving me to spend a rather chilly Saturday night on the streets of Paisley frantically trying (and failing) to wake my neighbours to get them to let me in.
I get cold even thinking about it!!
I'm sure I read about this in the Paisley Daily Express.
It's the stuff you do, or in my case say, when you 1st meet somone that are the ones that you're always reminded of. The 1st time I went to my girlfried's house to meet her Mum and have dinner I was asked if i would like a slice of bread. Me being the hungry love struck young man said I'd like two. Which I never ate cos I was too full. During the meal the subject of SMASH (instant mashed potato) came up and I went off on a rant about how I hated it....
Needless to say, my future mother-in-law (yes, I married the girlfriend) had run out of potatoes and resorted to instant mash as a last resort. I was quietly told of the potato shortage later in the evening and have been constantly reminded ever since.

Re: Radio Stations (21 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I listen to a loacl radio station here.
It is called ROCK radio. it is on 96.3 FM and broadcast from Paisley near Glasgow.
It is the first radio station in Scotland to play nothing but rock/classic rock.the early morning DJ is a bit of a pain, it sounds like he is exagerating his scottish accent, or maybe he sounds different because he sounds so polite on the radio? They have a wee irish dj on a sunday afternoon who is very good, canny remember his name though.
Also got the scottish famous Tom Russell, wild wiley and some other nobody, lol.Tis good to hear Led ZEp, Black sab, bad comany, the who, g'n'r, nazareth, alice cooper, hendrix, ac dc, chili's, gun, foreigner, and many more.
No dance, no rave,
while the other radio staions are talking, this one is rocking!!!! ( their own slogan)Ken
I also listen to this while driving around in my wee red mail van. Tom Russell is a legend. Don Macleod who does the Friday evening show used to be in a band in the 80's called The Crows. I, in my 80's glory days, thought they were the dogs bollocks. They never quite made it big and so Big Don went on to be a millionaire promoter and founder of The Cathouse as well as DJ.
Ho hum.
Good music all day.

Good to hear, Ken. I assume you made a pig of yourself in China Buffet King across the road before you came in. lol
I have to admit that your mate's band were so loud that I thought my internal organs were going to turn to mush and run down my legs at one point. I could actually feel my trousers moving to the beat of the bass when I was standing completely still. LOUD!
Jings! I'm getting old.

Thanks, Ken, Zurf,
I've not noticed any ill effects but I thought I'd ask just in case. I love that sexy little black number and the thought of doing her harm unintentionally makes me nauseous.

When my guitar is not in use I hang it on the wall in one of those wall mounts you see in music stores.
I was wondering if this could do any long term damage to the neck of my guitar. Would a standard guitar stand be better?

I had a Fender Gemini II. It was not too bad. Sounded great but I wasn't too umpressed with the playability. A friend of mine recently took up guitar and he now has the Fender. It got me into acoustic in a big way and I've never gone electric again. Well, only semi-so.

Re: MENTALITY: Europe versus USA (40 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
The Bible is just a book.
The Bible is several books.
The old testament is a collection of books which witness and try to explain the relationship between God and His people.
The new testament a collection of books witnessing Christ's life and teachings, the effect on ALL people and the beginning of a church to spread Christ's message. In effect an update on the relationship between God and man.
You only need to do one thing to start people thinking in terms of "them and us". That is to simply split them into two groups. Human nature automatically starts the "them and us" process. So when The Church starts to splinter into different groups, which is inevitable because of the very interprative nature of scripture, human nature takes over and you start to get problems with everyone thinking everyone else is wrong.
So I have to agree that in a lot of ways religion is not ALL about God.

Re: MENTALITY: Europe versus USA (40 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I find myself agreeing with you on most of that but I really don't think you could call it state sponsored. This suggests a government funded church. That's just simply not the case.
We live in such a multi-cultural world now that to suggest that we have no religious freedom is absurd. Take a wonder through any Scottish city and you will come across just as many different kinds of place of worship as you see in Seattle.
I do agree that the two should be kept seperate.

Accepting that as it is, they do say that the UK is the 51st State. There is obviously a difference in the UK but it is a small difference.

Much the same way as Garry Glitter has a casual interest in children.

It's all a matter of opinion, of course.
I thought it was just Mr Stapp who had gone public as a christian. And he's no longer with them. In fact they are no longer together as far as I know.

I'd love to be able to play like Jimmy Page. The problem is everyone else in the room would be bored titless. Playing is fun. There are many songs (not just Zep songs) I don't really care for but put a guitar in my hand and let me play it with a group of pals and I'll play it as many times as required. Cos it's fun. Maybe not fun for the guys in the next tent or whatever but great fun for the ones playing it. I hope you understand what I mean.
Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Re: I DID IT!!! (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
You are not alone. While I do like Led Zep in small doses I cannot go them for any legth of time. Far too self indulgent for me. No need for a 3 minute song to last for 20 mins.

Yeah I watched that clip too. Fantastic. So many legends in the one place. Don't know why but B.B. King has always been a big hero of mine. Most people can say why someone is their hero. Somehow i just can't put my finger on it. I've just always been enthralled by his style.
Great clip!

Learn scales. Inside out! If you don't know your scales then you will not know what notes fit where.
Consequently I cannot play long improvised scales.

Hey Zurf,
My 1st guitar was an old battered nylon stringed classical, beast of a thing. It got me hooked though and I learned a lot on it. I don't know if I could make the switch back easily. My daughter recently had one similar from school and I found it really wierd to play.
When I picked up my Yamaha in the store to try it I too thought Woo Hooo. Brilliant guitar for under 200 samolians(UK). Unless something drastic happens then I hope to have this guitar for a VERY long time.
