What a great way for a father & son to enjoy time together ... sounds like you had a ton of fun!

Welcome to Chordie, Alice!

Another very helpful on-line resource is Justin Sandercoe's series of free lessons. He's a terrific teacher with a warm casual style, and you can select from a huge menu of techniques from beginner to advanced. I have personally learned a lot from him, and I hope you'll find him helpful:

Please keep us posted about your progress. There are some really accomplished musicians here on Chordie, and there are also a lot of hackers like myself, and everything in between. This is a very non-competitive yet supportive place to trade ideas with one bond uniting us all ... we love guitars and music!

Holey Moley, TIG ... that's absolutely gorgeous!

I'm permanently hooked on natural woods, and yours has it in spades. The oak pick-guard is a real classy touch, and you should be extremely proud of staying with it and this final result. I see what looks like copper foil lining the electronics cavities ... there must be a reason. Will it reduce the usual single-coil pickup hum? Good pickup choice, by the way, although I'll admit to being partial to Fender's "Fat 50" pups. And labeling it with your own name is "la piece de la resistance"!

Great job, dude ... wow, just wow!

Thanks for the shout-out to your buddy, Peatle ... EasyBeat has posted some real crackers over the years, and this one is exceptional.

Congrats on a great find, JJJ ... you've got yourself a real sparkler there. Here's a generic pic from online, in case anyone hasn't seen one. It also comes in a smaller Parlour size ... which one did you get?

Beamer, isn't it great to get to that place in life? No point in always wishing we could be someone / somewhere / something else, or we'd always be miserable. Enjoying the music (however we do it) is the main thing. Thanks for reminding me of that!

Cheers TF we have rivers here  in NZ with Brown and Rainbow Trout also in the South Island Salmon. If you come to NZ you will discover many a good spot to Fly Fish. I have had the privilege: in my time to have had the experience of living in differant parts of the world,. I have noticed as you have stated with  eloquence: that when we strip away the exterior trappings of culture and such, people are essentially the same throughout the world.  Without thinking about it until now I am pleased my writing has acknowledged and represented that.

Good on ya, Peatle ... I've watched lots of YouTube about fishing in NZ, and my dear wife enjoys watching me drool on myself while watching. The just don't grow this big in this part of the world.

Nice work, Phill ... takes me back to my own teen years, and those awkward feelings of self-doubt and second-guessing. There wasn't a "Dating for Dummies" book out back then, and I didn't read it. smile

Great tune ... love the idea that his guitar has a life of its own ... "You're kinda bendin' like this" ... and some sweet notes along with it. That's some smooth heat for our cold weather. Thanks, dude!

Thanks, CG ...

I went looking in several music stores to get a set of LaBella's, and no one nearby carries them. sad I don't mind ordering on line, but I always prefer to do business locally when I can. I've ordered a set, and based on your experience I can't wait to try them

Most of us will recall Clare Torry's amazing vocal performance of this song, from Pink Floyd's 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon". I've recently been looking at other singers who have performed it (Ola Bienskowa's is very good!) and been thinking of other singers who could have done a first rate job of it, like Whitney Houston in her prime.

Who would you like to hear sing / perform a favorite song of yours, that probably wouldn't or never will?

Thank you TF for your feedback. I glad some of the things Kiwi,  I  have put on here are of some interest to those from other parts of the world.

In fact, New Zealand's been on my "bucket list" for years to visit, but the time / money has never been there. My main interest is for some of the amazing brown trout fishing in your country ... maybe someday.

What's so interesting about your keen eye, Peatle, is that when we strip away the exterior trappings of culture and such, people are essentially the same throughout the world. To me, that's what's so appealing about your lyrics ... in this song and many others.

Pink Floyd    "Time"    London, 1994

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_VjVqe3KJ0

Easily one of PF's most recognizable songs, with Gilmour's terrific guitar solo that we were all trying to learn back in the 70's. I couldn't find a live version where the solo is real close to the album's, but that's an artist's prerogative isn't it? I love watching Nick Mason playing the toms during the opening, and am reminded that even thought he's not one of these drummers with light-speed hands, he really is an asset to the whole Pink Floyd sound.

The song is about the circumstances of life which we'll often use as an excuse for inactivity, i.e., "sticking around a piece of ground in your home town". Time is the one non-renewable resource we have, and this song motivated me to get up out of my own hometown of 850 people, and get out and do something with my life. It's great to be proud of ones' roots, but they they don't have to root us to the ground of inaction.

Great song, EB ... and I think you've diagnosed the mic placement as the main issue with the finger squeaks. The suggestion about Elixir strings is a good one, but they just have less squeaking; it isn't eliminated.

You really have your "finger on the pulse" with your observations about the people around you, Peatle ... and you've captured that again very well with this song. Nice work, mate!

A high quality guitar has the gravitational attraction of a black hole ... they just have a voice and feel that gets a grip on the soul. You said "... it wasamazing". Does that mean it's still in the shop?

Riverside    "The Curtain Falls"    Warsaw, 2008

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K1_7QT_POg

Hailing from Poland, Riverside is another eastern European prog group which continues to make some incredible music. This clip is from their 2008 2-DVD release entitled "Reality Dream". The group was founded in 2001 by four friends, soon joined by bassist / singer Mariuz Duda. He brought the ability to sing in English to the group, which they knew was needed if they were capture attention outside of Poland's border.

Tragedy struck in 2016, when guitarist Piotr Grudzinski (seen in this video) passed away from a heart attack on Feb 21, at a very young age of 41. Piotr wasn't replaced for their next album (Eye of the Soundscape), but Riverside has since been joined by Quidam's guitarist Maciej Meller. I hope you enjoy this beautiful tack, and Piotr's smooth playing style.

Jimi Hendrix    "Hear My Train Coming / Hound Dog"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P701paKEMXs

Here's a rare find, featuring Jimi on an acoustic, noodling around with a couple of blues standards. He had an incredible touch and piles of emotion in his playing, along with being a really great guitarist. SO relaxed and enjoyable.

I rented the Ibanez SR500 (2nd choice - above) from the local music store for the weekend, and have now crossed it off my list. No matter how I configured the EQ or played it, it had no guts. My Cort GB34 sounds and plays just as good, and it was half the price. Next rental will be the Thunderbird ... but only 'cuz Zurf says so. big_smile I didn't like the quick tryout in the store, but really need to get it home and put it through the paces to know for sure.

Hi Peatle ... I hope the CubaDupa festival was a success. Did "Nuclear Armadillo" make it this year? I pictured this artwork from ELP's 1971 "Tarkus" album cover when I saw the name:
