Thank you fellas !  Here is a link to it - I did a quick version and put it on sound cloud

https://soundcloud.com/tigljk/coming-into-memphis

I also wrote it using blues format.  That sounds good too. smile

I was driving down the road yesterday and passed a couple of tractor trailers. As I looked at the drivers - it seemed to me they appeared sad and lonely - I could be completely wrong ! smile
This morning I was thinking about it and came up with this song.

Coming Into Memphis  By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[G]He’s just a cross country trucker, and he’s [C]hauling another [G]load

[G]Yeah, an all night trucker, driving [C]down solitary [G]roads

He’s been [C]knocking down the miles [G]one by one

all [C] by himself ‘til this[G]trip is done

with his [Am] memories of love dying [C]against the fading [G] sun

.

Verse 2

.

[G] He’s just a troubled trucker on the [C] edge of losing con[G]trol

[G] yeah, he’s a lonely trucker, with his [C]passion drifting from his [G] soul

Driving [C] through endless nights that [G]seem too long

And [C] listening for comfort in a [G]country song

While he [Am]wonders how [C]things ever got this [G]wrong

.

Chorus

.

Well now he’s [Em]coming into Memphis, it’s [C] ’bout the break of [G]dawn

he's[Em] heading back to Memphis but he [C]knows she’ll be [D]gone

just [Em]a few more miles and [C] he’ll be reaching [G]home

and like that [D]deserted,lonesome [C]highway, he’ll be a[G]lone

Verse 3

.

[G]Thinking about his woman who [C]left him for another [G] man

[G]Yeah she broke his heart as [C]only a woman [G]can

while he [C] rambled down those [G]friendless roads,

She got[C]tired of waiting for [G]him to come home

She [C]found her lovin’ and[G] she's happy now

and he [Am] wishes he could go [C] back and change it some [G]how

.

Chorus

.

Well now he’s [Em]coming into Memphis, it’s [C] ’bout the break of [G]dawn

he's[Em] heading back to Memphis but he [C]knows she’ll be [D]gone

just [Em]a few more miles and [C] he’ll be reaching [G]home

and like that [D]deserted,lonesome [C]highway, he’ll be a[G]lone

.

slower

like that [D]deserted,lonesome [C]highway, he’ll be a[G]lone

like that [D]deserted,lonesome [C]highway, he’ll be a[G]lone

yea,like that [D]deserted,lonesome [C]highway, he’ll be a[G]lone

Richard

Sorry I missed this one - just happen to see it today !
That was excellent.  It is a very difficult song to sing !
It is one of the true country classics.
Marty Robbins had the horses in the back before it was cool.

Thank you so much for doing this cover.

WOW   CG   This is a fantastic find !
I never knew Dion played the blues.

These songs are excellent - especially the one with Van Morrison and J.L. Walker !
Thanks - I'll be listening to these today as I work at my house.

Happy Weekend !

I agree  with Phill - you can't do this!

It's like working all night to get that first kiss and with lips a millimeter away - turn your head and walk away. smile

Great suspense !   I think with some work it could become lyric.

I was sitting in my backyard admiring the trees and  flowers, listening to and watching all the birds with my grandson.
I thought even in these miserable Covid times - I am still so blessed. After my grandson left I picked up my guitar and started playing around with some lyrics and came up with this. I think the tempo is about 120 BPM - but what do I know about music ?  :)

The Creation by Jim Kenyon

[G]On the first day when God created Earth in all its beauty and [D]all its worth

[D]In all its worth for all to see, he the created the Earth for [G]you and me

[G]Next was the sun with rays so bright, lit up the sky with [D]Heavenly light

[D]Oh, Heavenly light so all could see, beautiful creatures [G] living free

[G]Then came the night with clouds passing by, stars and the moon shining [D]in the sky

[D]’Shining in the sky oh so bright, angelic ’s beauty til the [G] morning light

.

.

Chorus

.

.

Oh [C]God Created [G]heaven [C]and [G]Earth, gave [D]every living thing a [G]heavenly birth

Oh [C]in all his glory from[G] up[C]a[G]bove, he [D]still watches over with [C]all his [G] love

.

.

[G]Then came the land, and the seven seas, animals and fish living [D]as they please

[D]Living as they please,it was so nice, yeah God had created a [G]paradise

[G]God put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, gave them everything that [D]they’d be needing

[D]Oh he gave them everything they required , just about anything their [G]heart’s desired

[G] On the seventh day he sat back and took a rest, thought that the world was [D] truly blessed

[D] yeah the world was blessed and looking fine, he said now take care of this [G]world of mine

.

.

Chorus

.

.

Oh [C]God Created [G]heaven [C]and [G]Earth, gave [D]every living thing a [G]heavenly birth

Oh [C]in all his glory from[G] up[C]a[G]bove, he [D]still watches over with [C]all his [G] love

.

Oh [C]God Created [G]heaven [C]and [G]Earth, gave [D]every living thing a [G]heavenly birth

Oh [C]in all his glory from[G] up[C]a[G]bove, he [D]still watches over with [C]all his [G] love

WOW !   JUST WOW !!

Crystal is awesome- what a voice - perfectly suited for the blues.  I could not help think that she was a bit like Janis Joplin- only a better singer.
Every song on your list is performed stellarly.
Thanks so much for this find. A great way to start the weekend !

Looks good Beamer !!
I like the way it rhymes, but not perfect - like keep/jeep      it sutley reminds us that love is not perfect either.

Way to go - looking forward to the rendition!

Phill

Yes indeed !
I am in awe of how fast time has passed by.

I want a "do over" !   I wish I could go back in time and just enjoy my kids more - seems I was always so busy.

I must admit I was jealous of my sons in law bc they got to marry my daughters - it's really hard to accept that anoter man can take your place after so many years of caring and protecting them.

Very cool song Phill - Darn - I wish I had your abilities !!

Hope you are well and not driving Ann too crazy !  smile

We should collaborate again on something, I always love how you take my songs and make them magical !

Best wishes

Very good !

Phill - you and I think alike - I just told Pam yesterday that I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day !

Jeff- hope to hear you perform it.

You always seem to find just the right blues music !
Thanks

I love the mystery and intrigue here Brian
leaves the reader for a tonof ways to go with it as I can imagine a few different scenarios.
Well done.

Hope you are well and soon to be no longer a "fugitive from society" due to covid - 19.

Best wishes

Jim

Graham
That is impressive - well done sir!
