Sucks gettin old huh? I'm only 35 but feel like I'm 65. Because of work I'm always sore or hurt.

I hope you find some relief soon. And remember, playing guitar doesn't demand as much from your shoulder as your other hobbies.

I have 3 and they all get  their turn. I might play one for 3 weeks then decide to spend time with one of the others. No rhyme or reason.

I teach beginner lessons so I am NOT authority on this matter. I look at it this way, if someone knows more than you, then you can learn from them. To be a good teacher you must be excited about what your teaching, excited FOR your student, and excited WITH your student. We all learn from our experiences. So with empathy he can relate to your journey as he has been there. He's been teaching for 20 years so I think it's safe to say that he can teach. Obviously guitar is hands on, you can't learn it by just reading about it. So again, he knows more than you so you will get something out of it. The 3 things you mentioned "technique, precision through muscle memory, and dexterity" all come from lots of practice. At 2 years in I would think that you could scour for online vids and lessons. You already know the basics, so everything else is built on that. I don't think there is a "next level". You learn by slowly progressing. I don't know your definition of good and I don't know your skill level, but it's gonna take another 10 years to call yourself "good". That is, good among other guitar players. It depends on the company you keep.

Things to look for:
He should be excited
Patient
Not try to overload you
Go at YOUR pace not his
"test" you about what you covered in the previous lesson
Try diff approaches if you're not getting it
Help you figure out why something isn't working

Like I said, I teach beginners and everyone has their own style of teaching.

Hope that helps

That's not just a whoops!!!!  I hope the surgeons are wise and skilled. I don't know why I think this, but if it was a clean cut then the tendons should be able to be repaired. So, what happened after you grabbed the peak and cut your hand? You have a good outlook if the worst becomes reality. I agree with you on the oddity of the left hand. My left can hand can grab and lift but other than that it's all thumbs. I can't hammer, use a screwdriver, cut with a razor, or write my name left handed. But guitar it can do. Weird.

Keep your head up Butch we're wishing you the best.

UH, Joey, I don't want to tell you that you're crazy. But you might want to ask a therapist and see what he says. Talking guitars....next thing you know your kids will have fish names. Oh, wait a minute......

I think you're ok for now Dave. But if you give it a girl's name, start putting dresses on it, caressing and kissing it, then you might have a problem.

I used to use Simoniz on my chrome car bumpers. It would get rid of the little rusty spots. I don't know if they still make it or not. Don't know if it would do anything to the nickel plating.

My family and I were there when this happened. Not 5 or 6 mins before, we were standing right where the little girl was. We were down a little lower when some rocks came flying by. When we heard some screams I scrambled back up and saw what had happened. That was by far the worst thing I've ever seen. Another guy came up right behind me and he had a cell phone so he made he 911 call. So sad that freak things like this happen. I hate saying this, but I thank the Lord that it wasn't my wife or son and that they didn't see what I saw. I can't imagine the pain that family is going thru.

Welcome Jerry!!!! Like Topdown said we have all been there. So there are no dumb questions. If you're stuck then ask away.

Seems like us Californians are few and far between on Chordie.

Nice story. Did u end up offering him your guitar? Seeing as how you had two and didn't care if the one got broken or stolen. And maybe see if he wants to take some lessons or just jam together. Like the wise Zurf said, encouragement.

Wow Tops that kid is a little "too" into it.

I agree with Pete, to each his own. By your track record I doubt that you will be a one guitar person. Even if you do obtain your holy grail Martin will your gas then cease? I for one tend to shy away from hype even if it is based on fact. Martins I am sure are wonderful instruments but the price tag and hype make me turn my eyes towards others. So if you do get your Martin will it live up to your expectations and cause you to forget all others? I doubt it. Ability vs. quality, 1 or 5, it doesn't really matter as long as you enjoy it and are not hurting others by doing it. I myself have 3 guitars and that is my limit. I might add an electric in the future. Financially that is all I should have and I can only play one at a time anyway. If you are fortunate enough to have more or better then go for it. Think of it as  a search for the perfect one.

Funny, some of these bands I will admit to liking without hesitation. Duran Duran and the Beach Boys are good music.

WOW Amy, I would never admit that!!!!  You were probly cool at the time but now it's just funny!

I would have to see one in person. I watched the vid and it doesn't sell me on it. Wouldn't buy on e anyway. The heel just doesn't have enough meat to sustain the pressures of not only opening and closing but the twisting also. I'm thinking one good side bump when the neck is folded down and that hinge is busting out. You would have to tune it every time you unfold it too.

Give us a few songs that you're kind of embarrassed to admit you like. Here we go:
Divinyls- I touch myself

Milli Vanilli - Blame it on the rain

Miley Cyrus - The Climb

Zurf, didn't you say not too long ago that you were starting to get a handle on the B?

They say teach them young. But I think that only implies to something they want to be good at. I don't think that saying applies to hating the B chord. You must overcome the B!!!!!

Wow fancy schmancy!!! That's a lot of electronics on that thing. Can you launch a space shuttle with it? Looks really don't matter. Every time you pick it up and strum it you forget how it looks. Besides, you don't look at the front of the guitar when playing. So as long as you like how the shoulder looks you're good.

That' what I was thinking. Yes it's kinda cool, but like Buzz said I can get lots of the real ones for cheaper. Looks like I'm not buying a puncher anytime soon.
