Hi everyone! Reposting with Roger's permission.....
============================================

A few nights ago, I was listening to some music from Tommy Emmanuel when I decided to look for more stuff.

I ran across a TED "talk" he did from Melbourne Australia where he speaks of his "One Man Band" and I wanted to share it with you. It is quite thought-provoking and takes about 19 minutes to watch, but in my opinion is well worth the listen as well as the watch.

My own assessment is "This man has got it right", and in what he said was the encouragement I needed not only to continue playing guitar, but for many things in life. Perhaps you, my friends, will agree.

You've touched on something that worried me since the day I signed on here, CG (do you mind the "CG", or should I use the whole name?). Do our friends mind if we tell them their sound is reminiscent of, say a Dylan, Lightfoot, Baez, Brickell, etc. etc.? If I remember correctly from a long ago post, the ones who answered did not and  considered it a compliment.

However, there are those among our company who have their own sound and style and are too modest to point it out (not that I have seen, anyway), so I guess that's for the listener to determine. smile

So our friends are cool with our compliments in my opinion and you and I can rest easy. (I HOPE ----- HAHAHAHA)

Zurf,

I have always loved the guild look AND sound when I have heard it played, and you're right - that large body is just aesthetic as it can be. I'll see what I can find, try 'em all out and see what happens with the "love factor". smile I especially like the idea of painting it blue, my friend! smile

Thanks as always for your help!

Classsical Guitar,

Thanks for your response. I don't know if this makes sense, but I'd like the option to play both a standard and classical neck. I certainly will get back with you once I make my decision.

Thanks

Didn't know quite where to put this one. He's a little bit of everything, but most of all, inventive and VERY good!

I hope y'all get a laugh or two from this and enjoy it.

Heard Prior The Performance: "Ladies and Gentlemen of The Orchestra: during his performance of the 'Finale" of the Overture, I am being told Mr. Campbell will be "stalking" amongst several of you with his....... guitar. I ask you at those times to please remain seated, face your sheet music and play. Do not, repeat, do not drool nor mount your cello and/or double basses and attempt to dance with it. That is all". wink

That was just TOTALLY AWESOME, Jim! Especially that "matter of fact" way he explained, "I'm gonna learn to play this some day."..... Well, he really did, didn't he? Thanks for making my day, Buddy! smile

PS: Somebody's playing a cute little Ovation Mandy. Any ideas of who that may be?

Heh-heh....... regarding the various levels of membership: Roger will explain those to ya', but as far as mine goes, it's a joke name. I made up the name "Musicator" and so he and the others decided to hang that moniker on me. One of my good friends Mojo01 (I call him Mo' for short), picked up his membership because I believe he makes pickles and sells 'em in a jar, but my memory fails me these days, so I'm not sure about that one. The other thing is the more you post, I believe, the higher your level of membership goes.

Anyway, glad you figured out your humidity problem and will join us here as much as possible.

By the way, do you know the meaning of "Relative Humidity"?

That's when you ask your cousin for a loan and he pees on ya. smile

Say hello to "Jane and the Monkey" for me and have a good rest of the week! wink

EDITED TO ADD: Upon rereading this post, it sounds like I'm purporting that guy to be me, so I just wanted to "clear the air", as it were, about that. No way am I even close to being that good, but the gentleman is from Germany, so I wrote him a note in my native tongue inviting him here.

I do that with a lot of cool guitarists, by the way: TF's featured artist from this morning's "Flying Fingers" program is another example, so Mike Dawes has an invitation.

The "rolled and pleated" Kustom?  Oh, God - I remember those (candy-apple red) beauties from the 60's and 70's. I hope you won't have any probs finding the proper replacement tubes, jerome, and even though I'm primarily a drummer, I do empathize and sympathize. It was no fun having had to tone myself down so as not to drown out the strings and voices.

All the best

Nice one, TF. I left him a note praising both of you and inviting him here to say hello if he wants to. I also subscribed. You really outdid yourself this time, my friend. I loved it!

Bil

Mo', I left you some comments on the Cloud, my friend. I hope you will read them and take them to heart, because they are heartfelt. As far as the technical quality, I thought your voice came out stronger this time (maybe it was the chords you felt more comfortable with?) and the rest you're just gonna have to read about there and I hope you'll like what I wrote.

Your Bud,

Bill - I have a little Fender 15W Frontman practice amp you can have for that strat.  It has been featured in photographs here on Chordie as a foot prop and end table for enormous glasses of bourbon.  Private message me your address either here or on Facebook, and I'll check out what the postage will cost.  I get a big discount from UPS through work, so it has to be a physical address.

- Zurf

Wow!!!! Thanks, Zurf for that very kind offer and I accept with great appreciation. I would be happy to pay the postage plus whatever you'd like for the Frontman! Awesome! smile

Hi Phill

First let me say, it's always good to hear from my friend from over the "great pond". About making the "thing" (That's what I have taken to calling it) funny, I will try, but nothing occurs to me at present. It was just my mood at that time and i'm over it now. smile I was just thinking about stuff we avoid discussing and that immediately came to the forefront. Perhaps I could choose another subject like how we try not to laugh not to laugh when someone passes wind. When I was younger, I used to have to run out of church and lie down in the car to let the laughter out! Sorry, but that's who I was then.

Anyway, I enjoy your suggestions and am grateful for the compliments and miss you when I don't see you here. Got any music I may have missed commenting on?

Easy is just one of my favorite "Kiwis"! Thank you, Sir and let me keep working on it and maybe I can turn it into something satirical and funny. This thing really has a hold on me!

"Lucinda"? Related to Hank, Jim. or the daughter of one of his kids? Listening to it as I write, and loving it! Thanks for the share!

Gitarzan! ("and his jungle band! They're all you can stand! Give 'em a hand!" ). You must be a fan of Ray Stevens, as am I! He's from a neighboring city to mine called Tallapoosa, and I have enjoyed his comedic and serious ("Everybody's Beautiful") music for many of my long years. I welcome you to our crew of musicians! Some of us are terrific musicians and writers!

All the best, stick around and "teach us something!"

Of course. I tend to think in order to maintain that full sound, your guitars must be protected from humidity and temperature. Am I right?
