I had a problem with this in my old Fender. The problem was that the saddle had become loose and the string tension was pulling it forward and knocking out the intonation. What I did was slide a couple of pieces of paper down each side of the saddle to tighten it up and stop it moving.

Next time you restring check if your saddle it OK.

However, if your saddle is Ok you may have to get into adjusting truss rods which I've never done.

I know just how annoying this is, so good luck with it. I may just add that I finally gave in and bought a new guitar.  big_smile

Just a hobby for me. I've just got to the stage where I'm happy to play in front of family and friends. Don't think you can beat a good struma-sing-a-long. Great fun.

Will I ever be famous? Ha ha. No chance. And no thanks.

Looks like I just answered my own question there.

Doh!

It's all down to tax. Like Ken said, Scotland is the world leader in Whisky production but you can jump over to France and buy it cheaper than you can in the country it was made. Madness.

So after all this can someone explain why we in Europe are paying the same figures in £'s as those in the USA are in $'s. Even with my extremely limited knowledge of exchange rates this surely doesn't add up. I know I said it was the way of the world but I'd still like an explaination. I'm sure there must be a good reason for it.

By the way, Ken, I had a nice meal in the Tully Inn on Saturday night (3 main courses, 3 drinks - £30 since we're going into these things). After a day climbing The Cobbler. What a view we Never got. Stinker of a day. And then Sunday - glorious! Typical.

It's the way the world is. Don't know about the rest of Europe but in the UK we get ripped off constantly by this. We are not known as RIP OFF Britain for nothing.

Cheers. I just don't fancy the in-your-face-ness of video. Especially when you look like me:)

Thanks guys. As yet I have nothing on paper but have a few ideas starting to form. I just keep thinking back to those bloody awful things everyone writes when they are an annoying teenager who thinks they are oh so deep, misunderstood and know everything. That was the last time I tried my hand at this and would like to forget about them. Aaahgghhhhhh! I recently found a book of such rantings and was mortified at how bad they were and how much of an a***whole I was (maybe still am).

Things can only get better.

Is there any way of adding audio to posts without links to my space or other similar formats?

OK. I have never written a song in my life but I have recently started to mess about with chord progressions and flat picking and can come up with some nice wee "snippets". So I am starting to wonder about laying down some words.

My question is - do you guys have a formula that works for you? Like music 1st then words or words then music?

It seems there's a lot to this songwriting thing. Makes me respect you guys all the more.

What kinda books do all you guys like to read?

Pphhhheeeewwwwww! smile

I'll shorlty be going away for 5 days.

Don't know what I'll do! My wife may kill me.

What can I add?

No other guitar site is so comprehensive. The main reason I stuck around was because the forum was/is always helpful. If I want to know something then someone has probably asked already. And if not then I can always count on getting answers from, what I have found to be, honest people.

I'm from Scotland; 40 years old; beautiful family; deliver mail for a living and just can't get enough of the guitar. LOVE IT!

Bllockos!

I believe they used to have a Chairman who got them into some serious financial difficulty.

This same man is now in charge of Royal Mail (uk's postal service) and seems pretty determined to do the same to it.

Hey Rockerchick!

I for one am glad you made this post. I have a 10 year old daughter with a lot of the things you are experiencing just around the corner. I can only hope i have the understanding to deal with it properly. Parents, I think, tend to look on teenage problems as something their children inflict on THEM. I pray that when the time comes I can remember my own teenage years and offer her help, support and love. No-one should feel that they are an accident or that they are a burden to anyone.

My wife used to say that she was an accident. But if she had not "happened" then neither would her brother. And I would never have met her, and we would not now be blessed with the most beautiful, happy, loving daughter.

Love and life,

Ken,

Good to hear you can sort this by breathing exercises. Hope it goes ok.

Also glad you enjoyed Jura. I just heard my brother was over there at the weekend. I'd be surprised if he never took his Pipes.

Had a bit of a boozy weekend myself. Why is it women like to do the whole dinner and a show thing with their pals and us blokes prefer a weekend in the outdoors with a campfire and a few bevvies.

I bottled out of taking my guitar cos the weather wasny promising to be up to much. Boy was I dissapointed I never took it. Weather was fine. My mate did take his old 12 stringer though so we kinda took turns at beltin out a few sing-a-longs. I did, however, discover that I really don't like 12 stringers and much prefer the 6. Serves me right for not taking mine.

Good to get home smelling of Glenfiddich and wood-smoke.

It's just putting a little bit more emphasis on the D in the chord rather than the B. So you get a slightly brighter sounding G chord. To my ear any way. It won't fit better all the time but it's good to be aware that it is an option.

Yeah!
Depends on the song and how it fits in really but, yeah don't be afraid to play variations of chords if it sounds better.
