Mr Tubatooter1940,
  I really like your sound and the concept of tuba w/ acoustic guitar. You play that bad boy very, very well sir! Thanks for posting the links. If you're ever on the gulf coast of FLA(Tampa Bay area) I got a spot for you in my mixer, if you're intersted. Shoot me a private e-mail and let me know if you'll be down this way in the future and I seriously could have some PAYING work for you......

Peace and Guitar, (and Tubas too!)

It riles me to no end when people sit down at a table directly in front of the stage where a musician is set to perform, when there are many other tables available for them to locate themselves, and complain about the volume of the music coming from said stage. It's like jumping in a swimming pool and complaing to the lifeguards about their swimsuits getting wet!!!!!!!!

And I too have one those ex's KAP54 speaks of. Everytime I hear one of these seagull birds squalkin', I'm reminded of her  (8-[    ..........

...and one more thing to add to this list; Bass players with the Jan Brady syndrome. " It's always Marsha and Cindy!, Cindy and Marsha!, never Jan, never Jan, huuuuhhhhhhh...........

Hello semiacoustic,

  Although Ovations are a great brand of guitar, they are synonymous for finishing issues, such as the one you're experiencing. It's the combination of wood and polyurethane-ish alloy that the back of the guitar is made from. Wood expands and constricts, the back of the guitar does not. That's the scientific explanation for the finishing issues. It's called the  Coeffient Of Expansion. (COE)

   There's one thing that you can do to prevent this from happening and pretty much one thing only; climate control. Consistent humidity and temperature control. However, you can only cater so much to the needs of something before it becomes more trouble that it is worth??!!!....

      I would suggest first that you apply some clear finger nail polish directly to and around the crack . More times than not the nail polish 'freezes' the splitting process and most likely you'll be the only person who notices the blemish in yer finish. This is a starting point. I would, if it were my guitar, do this first and take further action later, if needed...............

Roger that buvvy! Forever Young is a lyrical masterpiece.  And as far as Mr. Young goes, Unknown Legend is in the same ballpark as Forever Young.

The best way to promote a product is to get out there in public and play the heck out of your product. There are no short cuts. Walk the walk, sing the songs, play the gigs..........Or maybe get a spot on those clown television shows such as American Idol and subject your material to a no talent, loudmouth, trying to control the music industry with a foolish gimmick...........Nah!!!! This crud will soon cease to exist, take that to the bank!

  Get some gigs, play your music, tell your stories, if it's good you'll continue to play out, if it's really good your mesage will reach the proper channels and your venues will grow in size and demand........There are no short cuts, I can't stress this point enough.

         Believe in yourself and love what you do, don't let temporary obstacles deter you from your ultimate goals.

Not too many people can play Yngwie's stuff. Keep at it though, you'll get there if you really want to! I dig your diversity. That'll take you a long way(being diverse). As far as the best distortion tones I've heard in my experiences, they come from a Marshall Solid State(50watt and up) gain side. The tubes are even better, I just can't afford the tubes, yet.............
Play on.....

I use and love Boss pedals. Here's how i run mine;

Guitar>Boss tuner>Boss Compressor/Sustain>Boss EQ(for solo boost)> Boss Phase Shifter(spacey,chorus,flange,envelope filter,wah sound)>Boss EQ( leave on all of the time)>Boss RC20-XL Loop Station>Mackie unpowered mixer>Marshall 50Watt Soloist> Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiator Loudspeaker System (1,400 watts) or for smaller venues I'll use a Behringer 45 watt acoustic Amp instead of the Bose. Also, I use a DC power source
for my pedals (2) , I connect the tuner, comp/sus/eq,env.filt,and eq. I have a seperate power source for the loop. I like the reliability of the direct power source as opposed to batteries. My amps are set pretty much at 12 oclock and my EQ is adjusted from my mixer. The volume is determined by the size of venue I'm playing.
There's my secret formula for my live sound and I swear by Boss pedals. I've tried many different brands and I always find myself going back to my Boss pedals, They're durable, reliable, easy to operate, and sound amazing.

ps-distortion sucks!!!! It burys the beautiful tones that acoustic guitars send out. You wanna play metal or hard rock get a distortion pedal. If you're playing acoustic music, distortion is the ultimate nemesis.

Very cool ! The forces of the universe are indeed mystic and special.
Thanks for that link Roger.

The rap "artists" sense that their product is on a rapid decline and the combining efforts with their peers is an act of desperation. How many ways can one say, "look at how much money I have and I'll shoot you if you disrespect me"? Society on the whole, I feel, is wise to the unitopical, self-grandiose attitudes. I'd like to think ,as a whole ,our universe has evolved beyond the gangster attitudes and scare tactics of the majority of these "artists". Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boyz, MC Young; that was good stuff. These guys had multi-topical content, real musicians playing along side them, and could make fun of others and themselves without fearing a coward poppin' a cap in day butts.(getting shot) The rappers of today; Eminem, 50 cent, Jay Z, Ludacris, and the like are all saying the exact same thing with a slightly variated delivery. I find it unlistenable........

There is a major difference in Asus2 (X02200) and Asus4 (X02240). Just keep this in mind when differentiating between the two......... I wish I had a computer camera and I'd show exactly what I'm trying to convey. Maybe soon?!?!?!.......

mamalsauce,

I had to remove the link to your song you wish to learn (language not acceptable for our kid friendly site). Please refrain from posting links with such language in the future.
   I was however able to figure out the part (1:45 - 2:11)you were seeking The chord progression goes as follows;  Dm  F  Gm A#  C (x4)

Question for SouthPaw41L:

Re: your suggestion on the pencil lead.

Do you mean to apply the pencil lead to the fret itself?  Not to the string, right?

Thanks,
Caracena

Not on the string, nor on the fret. Apply the lead on the bridge, or saddle(body) and the nut(neck) underneath where the strings rest.

Excellent point and I agree.  However, I got the impression from the original poster that the level was novice.  I therefore presumed - perhaps mistakenly - that a Barre would be too difficult.

I'm new at the posting, but have been on Chordie for about a year.  Is there somewhere I can find tips on effective posting?  I feel clumsy with it.....

Thanks

You'll simply "kill" (deaden) the A string with the finger you use to play the low E in the 3rd fret.

By itself yes, with other instruments it's gonna sound a tad bit off.

Here's what you're sayin' to play; 3X0031
Here's what 'proper' theory suggets; 353533

What you're sayin' will work with most songs that call for a G7sus4 but the barred way will work everytime a G7sus4 is requested. I like your thought process nontheless............

I put elixir's on the last time I changed and have been impressed with the long lasting tone. My only beef is that the 6th string sounds a lot duller than the rest (even straight after fitting). Did I get a bad set or is this normal?

Alvee,
  Give a good close look at the string to guitar contact spots at the bridge and on the nut. A little pencil lead applied will create a smoother gliding surface and enable the strings to fit nicely in the grooves on the bridge and on the nut. This might do the trick???

On my acoustic guitars I use 2 different types;

1) When playing my acoustic/electric with an active pick-up I use D'Addario Nickle Jazz strings(.12-.52). The pick-up and electronics have more relevance on the sound and tone. Therefore I like the nickle strings mainly because they do not lose sound quality as the life of the string takes it course. The sound almost exactly the same when I first put them as they do just before they break/ or need to be replaced.

2) When playing my acoustics that require a mic in front of the guitar, I use Elixir Polywebs 80/20 bronze custom lights (.11-.52) There is a noticable difference with these strings vs nickle, bronze, or phosphur bronze strings. The life of these strings too are far greater than most other strings I've used through the years. They are well worth the extra money...........

My personal favorite by Jerry is "She Got The Gold Mine and I Got The Shaft". After going through a divorce in a no-fault state (Florida) I could absolutely relate to the  inciteful words of the late, great Mr. Reed. A little snippet from the tune;
'While she's livin' like queen on alimony, I was workin' 2 shifts and eatin' bolgna(bah-lo-ney)'

Hey SouthPaw,

  In that "Wonderful tonight" tab...You have playing the E on the fifth Fret then the B, which I know means bend, then the 7th Fret on the E string, but do you mean to slide from the Fifth to the Seventh, or am I missing something, and is there a little more to that riff? Thanks for your help SouthPaw.

           Cam

These are sample riffs, not the entire solo. Practice moving positions and playing the same notes on different strings. Instead of playing 3-7 frets on the B and E strings, play the 7th fret on the G string and frets 8,10, and 12 on the B string. The purpose of the 'hook riffs' shown in the riff link is to expand ones practical use of the fretboard, or to break out of the bottom 3 frets. And it impresses people when they hear a guitar rookie play something that sounds familiar.

And remember Chordie is a search engine that gathers pre-existing tabs out there in computer land. It would be a copywrite violation for me to tab the solo and post it in our  forum. I can however, if you'd like, e-mail the full solo in tab form to you. Just lemme know..............

I really like the way this man played the guitar. He was a funny actor as well. I dug his role in 'Smokey and The Bandit' with his long eared bassett hound 'Fred'. Very underrated guitar player in many circles. The dude could flat out tear it up on a Tele.........RIP Guitar Man
